I’m in town on business for awhile and was craving some Chinese. Saw this place had 4 stars based on 50 reviews. I ordered: 2 Egg rolls, crab rangoons, General TSO’s and combination lo-mein. The guy never told me that they did not carry egg rolls and so I wound up with spring rolls, which is not at all what I wanted. The rangoons were pretty good, but they didn’t give me enough sweet and sour sauce… The General TSO’s was spot on though, delicious. The combination lo-mein was by far the single worst lo-mein I have ever eaten. The noodles were over cooked and there was not a good balance of noodle to vegetables and meat. I do not recommend this place at all.

Things to know: Chinese water has lemons in it… if you order a dinner plate, it will feed at least 2 maybe 3 people and the fried rice is kinda boring. Would like to see the veggie delight have more carrots, onions and pea-pods in it. Hot and Sour soup was pretty good… not bitter like other places. With all of that said… food was good. Service was OUTSTANDING!

This used to be one of our favorite places to get a good meal. Man ‘O Man… is it NOT now. We all hate it after tonight. Jimmy sold it a while back and it has steadily slid downhill ever since. Tonight, after a long day at the office, I decide to call in a carry out order. I go in and pay around $ 30 for one meal, some dumplings and extra rice. We get home and no rice. I try to call them and now they refuse to answer the phone. I let it ring forever. Then we decide we will just cook some rice at home(which will not be the same). The honey sesame beef if so tough that we can barely chew it. It tastes old and reheated or something. The soup was ok but my son got to the very bottom of his bowl and… I kid you not… a small roach is floating in it. I try to call again… no answer at 6:30pm. The two guys working there tonight must still be thinking of the $ 50k they all won in the lotto last week(a big copy of the ticket is at the register) and not their customers. I hope that cash lasts them a while because if this is how they are with customers, this place won’t last much longer. Signed, A former loyal customer

Went here with a friend of mine a couple of months back! The food was absolutely delicious; hot, fresh, and fast! We were the only diners in the restaurant, so it’s easy to say that our server had nothing else to do except to come check on us,(not exaggerating), every 4 minutes. He was very, VERY nice, but didn’t give us much breathing room.

Overpriced, but delicious! I loved the food, but could have gone to 888-Bistro and gotten better food for the same price. The fantasy duck and Bum-bum chicken was very delicious though!

This Place Is A Dump(ling). After hearing, for many years, how great Jimmy Jeng’s Szechwan was, I finally decided to go there with my girlfriend. Formerly Tsing Tao before Jimmy took the helm; this place is one of the most popular Chinese restaurants in town. Jimmy(the well known cantankerously charming host, waiter, and owner) is the least of Szechwan’s problems. We made a reservation for 7:00 pm. We were greeted by a pleasant and polite hostess. We told here of said reservation, but had to wait 10 minutes for a table while we perused back issues of Evansville Living circa 2007. Not a huge deal, but that’s why I called to reserve a table in hopes that we wouldn’t have to wait. It kind of defeats the purpose. Service got worse when Jimmy came to our table to take our drink orders. He told us, «Let’s go». Yeah, he said that, but not in the way a peppy cheerleader might. I’m not a fan of aggressive or authoritative server attitudes when I throw down money at your establishment. Despite the speed bumps, we ordered Szechwan Dumplings as an appetizer, Crazy Beef, and Bum Bum Chicken as our entrees. I had a beer and my lady had a glass of plum wine. When our appetizer came, it was piping hot, spicy and tasty. One problem though, it had a wad of paper in it. Inadvertently, I had already put the paper into my mouth and attempted to eat it. I called the hostess to our table to let her know what had happened and she said, «I’m sure it’s not bad paper». I told her, «It doesn’t matter because it’s a foreign object in my food». She told Jimmy of this dilemma and he politely asked me how I would like to remedy the situation. I asked him to just take the dumplings off the bill and everything would be fine. Our food came soon thereafter. Both entrees were a pile of brown, overcooked, and chewy meat. We couldn’t find an upside to the meal except our drinks were refreshing and wet to the tongue like most drinks usually are. I wish I had spoken up but I just wanted to leave. Instead of taking the appetizer off of our bill, Jimmy added another one without even discounting us. I ended up paying more for one of the worst meals I’ve had. If you like Chinese go to Shing Lee’s or Ma T 888 China Bistro

I am seriously still eating my food from here, and I had to come to sing some praise to my new favorite place in Evansville. I would give six stars if I could. This place is a gem, and I never even knew about it until today.(thanks Unilocal!) I got a variety of things to take home so I could give this place a fair shot, and hoped it would live up to the hype, and oh my god, did it ever. I ordered the dumplings, the chicken fried rice, and the empress chicken. Dumplings were the best I’ve ever had. Chicken fried rice was really nicely cooked and tasted so fresh. Empress Chicken is my new favorite thing. Breaded white meat chicken, with mushrooms and broccoli and a slight kick. I got take out, and it was so much food. They really give you a lot here. All of it is so fresh, and so great tasting, I can’t say enough great things about this place. The customer service was excellent. Such nice people, and totally willing to help you find the perfect dish. Really welcoming environment, full of really nice people. I am sure to be back, and I encourage all of you to check out Evansville’s little hidden treasure. I’m so mad I didn’t find it sooner.

Well, I found one of my go-to restaurants! YEAH! Great food — both through the take-out and in the restaurant. Wonderful service too. I tried my first Peking Duck… where has THIS been all my life? The final preparations were carefully and beautifully done at tableside. And the taste? WOW! Five folks at the table — five whole-hearted scores of 5 stars! I’ll be back — over and over!

Fantastic. I’ve had General Tzo’s Chicken and Apple Shrimp chicken and they’re the best I’ve had. Very friendly people. They have really good take out service too.

This place uses nice cuts of meats. You actually get chicken not 90% breading with tiny meat that are served at buffets elsewhere in town. Vegetables used here are fresh. Without doubt best Chinese I had anywhere in the Americas or in Europe. Hard to believe that we have such great Chinese restaurant in Evansville. In the end when get your bill, you’ll be happy. Still no cheap buffet here; if you want quality come here if you want quantity then you better go to one of the cheap belly busting Chinese buffets that are sprung all over the tristate.

Not worth the hype, growing up in Vancouver though, even the average food court chinese place there is much better than the best chinese food here. Search for a decent egg roll is still on. Sigh.

Cold sesame noodles, what more can I say! I enjoyed this place! Having lived in NYC for a bit and Jersey longer I’d like to think I know good Chinese food when I have it. I was in town for three weeks and ate here three times. Heck I even flew home with two orders of cold sesame noodles so my wife could have some ;)

In addition to the everyday Americanized Chinese fare, you can find some decent authentic flavors. My test of Szechuan food is the Mabo Tofu. in this case, i asked for it hot. The tofu itself was top notch, and it was in a broth of red hot pepper oil with lots of black pepper too. Flavor was amazing and heat was good. Just the way it should be. I also had the hot spicy calamari — flavor was good, but too much breading. Wait staff was amazing. My waiter was Jimmy himself. He noticed i was not around around here and asked what i was looking for. I mentioned authentic Szechuan like«tripe» and he said that if i wanted it, to just let him know a day before and he’ll have it for me.

In a city where most of the«Chinese Restaurants» are now gi-normous, all-you-can-eat buffets with generic food that is similar at every buffet, it is nice to find a Chinese restaurant that isn’t a buffet. The food is really good and the service is great. I highly recommend the dumplings and the green beans. I don’t think there is anything that I wouldn’t recommend because everything I have tried has been wonderful. My friends and I preferred to go at lunch time and while it seems busy, we’ve never had to wait for a table. It is one of the top Chinese restaurants I prefer. The prices are fairly reasonable, if you go at lunch time you can have lunch under $ 10 and if you go at dinner and order family style, I think when you divide the cost per person for the amount of food, it is a pretty good deal.
