Exactly what you would expect. Good, but generic breakfast food. Coffee is pretty weak. Service is attentive.

Ive been coming to the Cross Eyed Cricket for three or four years now. Today the food was amazing as always, but my service was absolutely terrible. We had Kathy as a server and we’ve had her before and each time is worse than the last. Yes, she takes our order and brings it to us and keeps up on drinks, but I’ve never had an experience where she has been nice. She is always hateful and rude. Today for example, when I ordered my bacon crispy(servers in the past there have done it no problem) she told me I would get whatever they gave me and deal with it. When she brought us our food, my bacon was not crispy and found she didn’t even write it down on our ticket. She never came back around to check how we were doing so I had to ask one of the other nice servers to see if the cooks would cook it a little longer and she said absolutely no problem. I love eating here and I don’t want to stop coming because their food is fantastic and usually our service is great by everyone else there, but I just hate being treated rudely.

Wow! What a great breakfast! Highly recommend the skillet. I had the chorizo and it was fabulous.

If you are wanting a home cooked and great deal for breakfast, you are missing out if you haven’t been here. This family owned diner is a great find. We have been eating here for years and will continue. Looking forward to the new restaurant they are opening downtown. Give it a try and you won’t be disappointed. Great prices and value for the food. It can get a bit packed during breakfast hours. I always go for breakfast and not other meals with my work schedule. Try one of the specials or a regular menu item. You won’t regret any of your choices.

Definitely my favorite place for breakfast since moving to Evansville. This«mom and pop» joint has a shabby-chique and boutique like atmosphere(my wife calls it «very cute»). Service is very friendly and down to earth, and the food is really remarkable in a good cheap, home cooked way(their breakfast skillets and pancakes are awesome). 5 stars from me because on top of the unique décor and likable service, eating here on a sat morning is so darn enjoyable and I’m really glad we found a place like this in our new town for a comfort food breakfast food after a long week!

Average diner in a crowded space. I understand the need to keep costs low and seat as many people as possible. Still, clean the place up and put some money back into the store. Food was OK. Service was good. Improve the seating area.

Good comfort food. The locals go here and it was a packed house for Sunday brunch. Leave room for the pies and cakes!

Oh wow! Found this place using Unilocal and what a find! Pulled up and thought uh oh! We’ll never get a seat. Walked right in and got a seat. Great atmosphere! Like walking back in history! Food was awesome! Just like mom made it! And free pie!!! Will definitely go back!!!

I’d say… not a hipster joint, not fancy, probably the least pretensious restaurant I’ve eaten in in a couple of years. But good, honest food. Plenty of it. This is no healthy eating joint, it’s a place that you’ll stop in because you’re ravenous. Or you want to bring your grandma to Sunday dinner. Had the Sunday Meal combo — for me, pork roast with gravy, leaf spinach, breaded tomatoes, and a cucumber salad. The spinach was likely frozen — still ate it all. The stuffing under the pork roast was danged tasty. Cornbread served with the meal was perfect. Sweet tea was a bit sweet but they watered it down and it worked just fine. Free pie for desert(comes with the combo on Sundays)? Heck yeah!

Cute little joint. Omlette a bit greasy, but I sent it back, and ordered poached hed eggs and they were perfect . Wish they offered gluten free toast or pancakes.

I love this place! The entrees and sides are just like mom’s, and the pies are the best in town. I never miss stopping here when I come back to Indiana.

This is my favorite breakfast place in Evansville! The food is amazing. There are always people in there but for a small space, there’s hardly any wait time. Turnover is great. Fast service. Great prices. Try the biscuits and gravy with hash browns. Its amazing!

OK, it’s a little off the beaten path, and the outside and inside décor are a little tired, BUT: The locals eat here for a reason. While they had a very nice inexpensive special, I went for an omelet with spinach and mushrooms. Per previous reviews, I had some of the gravy on the side to put on my biscuit. The omelet was excellent, not over– or under-cooked, and the biscuits were fluffy & hot. The gravy was superb. Really one of the best meals I had on my entire trip to Evansville. And the service was all that I expect from a diner, and more. She checked back on me, but didn’t hover or persist on refills I didn’t want or need. Reallly, a great way to start my Sunday.

Amazing service, atmosphere, & food. We went after church on a Sunday so it was busy but we only had to wait a few minutes before a table opened up. The food was amazing. Good portions, prices, &FREE pie of your choice in Sundays. I recommend the chocolate pie. Best I have ever had. No exaggeration! If I’m ever in the area again, I will be back

Friendly service in this family ‘joint.’ A little off the beaten path, but worth the trip. Must be a good local stop as the 20-ish table restaurant had 6 tables and 2 others paying/walking out, on our way in at 2:15 in the afternoon. Most everything is homemade. Not the cleanest place, DEFINITELY not fancy. I think the booth is shrank my pants as they were much tighter on the way out… I enjoyed the ‘special’ of the day, Roast beef stuffed pork chop, it was very tender and had great flavor. I was surprised that side of fruit was hand cut, fresh fruit. Homemade corn bread was fabulous, had to order an additional side! Good enough to drive a little out of the way while heading nearby.

Is it possible to have a bad meal here? My Dad is a breakfast expert and he introduced us to the Cross Eyed Cricket when we were visited from out of state. The biscuits are tall and tender, and the gravy is full of all kinds of delicious pork grease from both sausage and bacon. Maybe even a little something else. I have never had gravy that good at a restaurant before. They give you real butter here, not that fake butter stuff. The potatoes are crispy and well seasoned, yet not salty. I was actually eating them without ketchup, which is very strange. It is like eating at Grandma’s house, and Grandma can never do anything wrong. Don’t be sensitive when it comes to the waitresses. Since they don’t-suffer-fools, it will take a little while for them to warm up.
