The Autobarn Nissan of Evanston

For years I brought my car to them for service that I did not buy there. Then I tried to buy a car from them. I told them how I would like to be treated and they totally ignored me and did the typical car salesman and manager scenario. They tried to talk me off what I wanted and on to something else. I went to a nearby competitor theirs and they treated me exactly how I told him I wanted to be treated. I got financing and the deal done in two and a half hours at STAR Nissan. Sorry guys but you lost a customer.

I had a despicable experience at the Autobarn Nissan– they didn’t even try to scam me, they clearly did not want my business based on how they treated me (despite already having been an Autobarn customer already). Ownership needs to take a look at all of these 1 star reviews and not just throw inexperienced managers at the problem. Pathetic to run a business that impacts people in such a negative way. They are bringing down your entire Autobarn brand.

Beware. When you are ready to sign the contract, they foist fees and charges on you. For me it was over $ 700 of non-​disclosed fees. Dishonest business practices abound. Avoid at all costs.

A summary of my experience: I would absolutely NOT recommend that you buy a car from Autobarn Nissan of Evanston. We encountered deceitful and pushy staff, slow service, and an extremely stressful car shopping experience. Read more for details.
1) DON’T BELIEVE THE PRICES THEY LIST ONLINE! My husband and I traveled from out of state to go to Autobarn Nissan of Evanston, as the prices they had listed online for a new Nissan Rogue were $ 5,000 less than our local dealership. We thought we had an «appointment» with a woman, but it turned out that she only chats with interested clients online. So we ended up getting thrown with the next available salesman who starts out by telling us that their prices listed online include all possible discounts (which he wouldn’t even list out for us, although he did mention that one of the discounts is for «college graduates.» Well, my husband and I both graduated from college years ago, but of course we didn’t bring our diplomas with us!) So most of the «discounts» we didn’t qualify for, and as a result the price they quoted us was the same as our local dealership.
2) SLOW SERVICE! We came to Autobarn knowing exactly which year and model of the Nissan Rogue we wanted, but it still took SIX HOURS to agree on a price (which they lowered by $ 1,000 when we started to walk out,) get financing finalized, and to get the keys to the car. As a result, we ended up having to drive home through Chicago rush hour traffic – a stressful experience I would not want to repeat. We spent most of that six hours sitting in the salesman’s office waiting on them to produce quotes for us.
3) PUSHY FINANCING STAFF! When we were finally ready to sign the paperwork, the financing guy kept pushing me to get the extended warranty, even though I bluntly told him that I was not interested. He pressured me to the point of tears.
4) DELAY IN GETTING REGISTRATION! We received a temporary license plate that expired on January 3^rd (a Sunday). I went to my local Secretary of State office 1 week after I bought the car and she said that the paperwork had been submitted by Autobarn and I just had to wait to receive my title and registration. Well, by December 31^st I hadn’t received anything. I tried going to the SoS office, but it was closed for the holidays. We called Autobarn and the woman in charge of out of state sales (Ana) wasn’t in the office until Monday, January 4^th. I don’t know if the fault lies with Autobarn or my state’s Secretary of State office, but it was extremely frustrating having a brand new car that I couldn’t legally drive for a week, while I waited for my plates. (I would like to commend Ana, however, for sending us a dealer plate overnight, so that we could drive the car while we waited for our permanent plates. Ana was the only good experience we had with Autobarn.)

WORST EXPERIENCE I’ve ever had when leasing or purchasing a car. I have bought many cars and this is the second time I’ve leased a car.
This sales «team» pretty much lied and/​or deceived through the entire process. It took FIVE HOURS for me to finish the lease even though I had an appointment and had worked out some details beforehand.
Two times I was presented with an offer based on more annual miles than I requested. Multiple times I was presented with summary-​level numbers when I asked for detail. This went on and on until I had to write down the detail myself.
I was outright lied to about an option on a similar car and was actually told that it was a $ 1,500 option (it was more like $ 160) just so they wouldn’t have to consider leasing me the other car. I only got the truth when I pushed for the details.
The only reason I stayed here and leased is because I had spent so much time and I did end up getting the FAIR terms and payment that I wanted. They could sell more cars if they would stop playing games.
Also Toyota and Honda have a feedback/​rating that gives the salesperson an incentive to get the highest rating. This was obviously lost on Nissan.

As you can see, a «manager» posted contact information so I could resolve all the issues I encountered upon venturing to Autobarn Nissan of Evanston.
I called multiple times, no one ever answered or called me back.
I would be embarrassed if I was in management at a place like this.

HORRIBLE SALES EXPERIENCE: Not sure where to begin. My brother in-​law tried to buy a car a week ago. The Autobarn Nissan team tried to rob him blind by putting him in to a 2014 Sentra with 40k miles in it that had been wrecked according to car fax. Car was listed at 10,575. They had my brother in law paying 225 for 72mo. At a 6% APR. Anyone looking at this on its face knows this is the worst possible deal ever! Credit was even good!
So a week later after telling my brother in law to wait for me, we go back with the intent to buy tonight. Upon entering we encounter several meandering sales people and after 5 minutes we are asked if we need assistance. Young man helps us and says he needs to retrieve the car we want to test drive. 30 minutes later he finally arrives with the car. We drive it and want to do a deal. I make an offer of 9,000 on the car which was listed at 10,500. The young man said he will ask the manager. The manager promptly walks over to me fuming, literally. He sits down after introducing himself as Mike the manager. He states I insulted him. I pause and befuddled, let him repeat himself. He states that my offer was insulting and raises his voice. I informed him I could buy a car anywhere and he states LEAVE! Fine! You insulted me with this offer.
I don’t know what planet this guy is from or what kind of drugs he’s on but the AutoBarn team may want to review their sales staff at Nissan. Those people are a complete joke. I have a broad reach and they insulted the wrong person. They should be investigated for their practices. The kid my brother in law worked with Eddie needs to go in to another profession. He clearly needs training and guidance.

SERVICE: I can’t even comment on their service. I scheduled an appointment a week in advance and got a confirmation phone call and email yesterday. But when I showed up for my appointment, they said one of their service technicians was out so they’d have to reschedule, or I could leave my car there and they’d give me a loaner.
I re-​arranged my entire schedule today and drove 30 minutes out of my way to bring my car in. When I asked why they didn’t call me this morning to tell me, the response was, «the technician called in sick». They were open for 3 hours already, how do you not call? And sure a loaner might work for some people but I have 2 car seats in the back, I’m not about to go through the hassle of all of that just so I can do it again tomorrow.
Nope. Won’t be rescheduling with you guys.

Had a great experience purchasing my new Nissan Altima at this dealership. Just want to thank my salesperson Eddie and his manager Slavi for working with me and my budget. They were really easy to work with and I will definitely come back in the future. Thanks guys!

Guys at this place were super nice, Manager Leo is really nice and down to earth guy he gave me the exact price what i was looking for, he gave me the same price as two other Nissan dealer Star nissan And Martin nissan advertised but booth magically had non in stock. I called leo few times and he picked up the phone and made sure i got my pathfinder on time. Now over to finance manager, guy is young and super nice he not did push any extras on us and was not rude or up tight He made the car buying process super essay, and the guy who at the end in service center explains you the car features was super fun to talk to and explain everything perfectly. I will be recommending them to anyone who who wants to buy a Nissan. Manager leo will make the deal happen for you, i did the search on Trucar and i was given the exact price that I found on that site. LOVE MY NEW PATHFINDER

Extremely disappointed just bought a Nissan Juke about a month ago and had some many mechanical problems already! My first payment is here and guess what I haven’t drove the car for a week straight! Really wished I’d read the reviews before going into this dealership!

STAY AWAY!
I read the review of the person who said they changed the price while she was sitting in the dealership. The SAME thing happened to us. But I had recorded a digital copy of the web site AND printed the ad. I brought that into the dealership with us. When we went to get the «offer» on the car– they denied that the car was priced at the price listed in our printout on the internet that day.
I would ad that much of the inventory they have is junk. Many vehicle have been in accidents and have been poorly repaired. I noticed on one vehicle I inspected a bent rim and been mostly beat back into alignment and then very heavily weighted with balance weights — not something you want to have on your car. Another had panel with non-​blended paint colors — you could tell two different shades were used to paint the individual panels.
The sales guy, «Bobby», asked if his name was on the review — well, Bobby — not you have one out there when you play that trick on the next customer.

No less than an hour after posting this review — Bobby Amadi called my daughter for whom we were purchasing the car and had the audacity to yell at her. He was actually yelling on the phone at her!
A short time later, after another phone call to the dealer, chat session and complaint, the GM finally called. He said that the prices were time based — though nothing on the web site indicated that — and he apologized. HOWEVER — for an ad to not be considered to NOT be a bait and switch — the ad must state the fine print terms — such as offer expires on X date. These ads had no such information included on them. So I suppose he’s in on the scam to bait and switch and then play as if he was surprised at the outcome with the few complaining customers they get. I’m sure most people either get suckered or just walk away quietly.
If you get treated like this PLEASE take a few minutes to notify the attorney general’s office and the federal trade commission. Quantity of complaints will draw attention to this dealership and they will be forced to end these deceptive practices. They could even face criminal prosecution or fines. I bought a 2014 Subaru Impreza about 2 weeks ago from Autobarn Nissan. What an amazing dealership. From the time I walked in to the time I left my sales guy Mike Peksin was fantastic. I was a little nervous about going to a dealer to buy a car because I’ve worked for one in the past, and they were very sketchy. Once I met with Mike, and I talked to the sales manager Slavi I knew I was going to be taken care of. I am 19 and Slavi got me an AMAZING interest rate without a co-​signer. I had no clue it was even possible to get such a low rate in my situation. Then I met with the finance manager Sal and I swear I talked to him about cars for about an hour. These really are some great people. I had a wonderful experience here, and I highly recommend coming to Autobarn for a new or used car. You will not be disappointed!

I get a call telling me its still available and the online price is $ 12,979.
So I tell her I’ll be there in an hour.
Salesman meets me at the door and tells me it will be a few minutes to get the car.
Waited more than half an hour till we finally got to see it. Don’t know where they keep the cars but it sure isn’t there.
Meanwhile the price is still $ 12,979 online.
We take it for test drive, get back and I ask how firm is the price?
Get the usual, Well, we’ll talk inside lets see what my manager says.
Price online still $ 12,979
Now were in the office, he steps out for a minute comes back and ask me «how much did you see it online for?»
I say hold on it’s on my phone.
I was totally shocked! The price online now is $ 13,979. In a matter of 10 minutes sitting in the office they raised the price a $ 1000 dollars online.
I ask what happened and he tells me those were Black Friday prices. This was Tuesday ¹²⁄₁.
Then he claimed the prices were changed the day before!
Unbelievable, I tell him I’ve been looking at this website all day.
So I give him one offer of $ 12,500 which his manager who didn’t have the common courtesy to come out and apologize rejected.
I promptly got up and walked out.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! STAY AWAY!!. I got an online quote for a new vehicle at this dealership and called to confirm the quote. When I got to the dealership I was greeted by a sales rep, Eddy and was told that the vehicle will be 6k more than I was quoted. I then had to talk to the sales manager, Leo, and after much effort was told that he would honor the online quote.
The next day I brought my fiancé thinking that the deal was done and was greeted by another sales rep Michael. We went through the whole sales pitch again and was told that what was discussed with Leo would be honored. We were then given only a single sheet of paper showing what our monthly payment would be for 5yr and 6yr loan. I HAD TO REQUEST AN ITEMIZED BREAKDOWN AND BOTTOM LINE PRICE…
When I got the breakdown, the price of the car was about 3K more than I was quoted and additional fees were applied. I was told that I had to finance through them at an INTEREST RATE OF 5%-6.5% and could not go through my bank. Both me and my fiancé have 800+ credit scores! I traveled 2 hours on two separate occasions and all these people did was waste my time!
I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP IN DISGUST! Ultimately, I ended up buying a vehicle from Martin Nissan in Skokie and had a wonderful experience with them. at Martin Nissan I was greeted with honest sales reps and everything was transparent.
IF I COULD GIVE A LOWER RATING FOR THE AUTOBARN NISSAN OF EVANSTON, I WOULD!

I wish I had read the other Unilocal reviews on here before purchasing a Nissan Leaf from Autobarn.
There are three items which I feel I was misled by Nissan and/​or the salesperson had at the Autobarn that would have affected my purchase decision:
1) I was told about the $ 4,000 state of Illinois rebate when I purchased my car in January of 2015. However, the state of Illinois had not paid out on the program in all of 2014 which I believe the sales person knew and that the Illinois program would likely be canceled. The program was canceled several months after I purchased my car and I did not get the rebate.
2) When I purchased the car through Nissan financing, there was a $ 3,000 rebate. Within a few months that rebate was raised to $ 5,000. Either Nissan or Autobarn would have known their intentions to raise the rebate.
3) Within 5 months of me purchasing the SL Leaf, the 30KW version was announced, immediately decreasing the value of my 2015 model. In addition, the price of the 2015 SL has been decreased once again affecting the value of my car which is only 9 months old.
Had I known any one of these three items above, I would have not purchased the Nissan Leaf.

This review is for the Autobarn finance team and sales team. I’d love to give a big fat zero, but Unilocal won’t allow it.
My wife recently purchased a car here and they took FULL advantage of her inexperience as a car buyer. They tacked on every known warranty/​add-​on to the price tag of over $ 8,000 additional costs. We hired a contract lawyer to get out of the deal and the dealership renegotiated (but still tried to push warranties/​add-​ons, etc… even after we agreed to not add them).
Lies, deceit, and trickery — from start to finish.
I know that all dealerships act the same way, but we were repeat costumers of the Autobarn. We were naïve to think that they would be honest with repeat costumers. I guess this is just part of this crooked industry.

We knew exactly what we were looking for, and this dealership had what we wanted at a good price.
The test drive was fine– he did a good job of selling the car.
Once we sat down to do the deal, the first offer they came back with had $ 700 for VIN etching, which was «mandatory» because they had already done it. If it was «mandatory», then they are legally required to include that in the advertised price. Also, everyone knows that the VIN etching costs 50 bucks at most.
I had to refuse the extended warranties 3 different times with the salesman, and 1 additional time with the finance guy. Only after my 3^rd refusal of the extended warranty did he mention the remaining time left on the manufacturers warranty. Too pushy.
They then offered a ridiculous low price on my trade in (which needed some mechanical work). When I decided to walk on it and sell it myself — the salesperson asked me if I was afraid of lemon laws.
Are you serious? There are no lemon laws for used cars in Illinois.
Ultimately, we got out of there with the car at the right price, without any of the bullshit– but they push way too hard with the warranties and the scams. I will never recommend this dealer to anyone.
To anyone from the dealership responding — I want absolutely nothing from you. Read this review at your next sales meeting and think about changing everything about the way you do business.

It is to bad that I could not give this place more stars. If we were just talking about the service center I would have given more because those guys are great… but the car salesman themselves lie all the time about price. I have bought 2 cars here each time i was lied to about price. Kissy my last salesman promised she would not go above a certain price I woiuld be paying monthly. Once i came to the end it was way more. It is my fault I just should have walked away but by that time i was so far into it with the other lady in the finance part of it and had already taken my belongings from the other car i went ahead. After being lied to twice at this Nissan i will probably never buy a car here again. To bad because I like their service and mechanics they have always treated me fairly.
Updated to give 1 star because they replied that they wanted me to call to fix the situation and they will not respond after days of trying to talk to them and leaving messages.

This dealership uses false advertising and price misrepresentation in order to get customers through the door.
I have been looking to buy a new 2015 Nissan Leaf and have done extensive research regarding prices, trim levels, options and accessories. After looking at all of the dealers that are located near me and comparing prices, I chose to visit Nissan of Evanston due to an incredible promotion they happen to be running on the car that i wanted.
Thinking this was too good to be true, I made a screenshot of the vehicle, the selling price, and the estimated monthly payment. The entry level model has a base price of $ 32,000 and they were touting an «internet price» of $ 14,545 after «instant savings.»
Once I got to the dealership, I test drove the vehicle and was very impressed. The salesman led me to his office to discuss the numbers. He starts writing down the price of the vehicle, and mentions that there is a $ 5,000 manufacturer rebate that will bring the cost of the car down to $ 27,000, and the federal tax credit of $ 7,500 brings the price down even further.
I show him the screenshot on my phone and ask him about this «internet price» that they are promoting and he explains that price is including the tax rebate. I begin to tell him that the word «instant» means right now, not next March when i file my taxes. Nowhere on their website does it state that the price reflects savings after the tax rebate, and that since some buyers would not qualify for said tax rebate, that it was not possible to accurately reflect the price including the rebate. He told me that I wasn’t the first person to bring that up.
His reiterates that the pricing is firm (his offer) and that they could not honor the $ 14,545 price listed on their website and asked me what would get me to buy the car. I replied that what this dealership is doing is immoral and illegal. I told him that I would walk if they did not honor the price that was clearly advertised on their website.
They clearly did not honor the price due to the fact that I wrote this review. I would hope more prospective buyers and buyers that were duped by this dealer and their misleading advertising practices would speak up and put an end to this nonsense.
