Great experience working with Jason. I’ve hired and dealt with over 50 handyman in my life, and Jason’s work is of the highest quality. I’ve referred Jason to several close friends and family members.

Jason and his team were extremely professional and their talent for workmanship was incredible. They were ahead of schedule and within budget. I had them refurbish my entire condo — from building a wall, to building a new center island, to redoing my bathroom — and all of it went off without a hitch. They really took the time and care to ensure they did the best job possible and also checked in with me throughout the project so there was full transparency 100% of the time. I would highly recommend them to anyone and I have already referred them to several people in my condo building.

Unreliable, shoddy workmanship. Jason’s workmanship was poor– for example, installing a trash pullout but not checking to be sure the trash fit (it didn’t), promising us he would repair the alignment on a cabinet and instead screwing in a magnet, curtain rods hung unevenly, etc. We have also learned that Jason was arrested recently for theft at Home Depot and a court date set, it was reported in our local paper (see bottom):
. On our job, he left part of the job unfinished – a cabinet door that we had contracted with him to reinstall. He collected payment from us for all of the work including the unfinished/​problem work, and promised he would come back. That was five months ago and he made and no-​showed for at least four appointments with us. He also canceled same day for our initial estimate. We finally asked him to return the money to us for portion of the work uncompleted. He agreed and then five minutes later then texted he would only give us half of the amount requested and our cabinet hinges back (??). Surprise, surprise we have rec’d nothing. We are out our money and a good amount of our missed work on his no-​shows. I have never in years of using Unilocal had Unilocal reviews that were so different from my experience and I question whether all of them are genuine reviews.
ETA: I am posting photos of the work Jason claims was 95% complete. There was no additional work added same-​day – we arranged one additional item for extra money a week in advance by email. I went back to my calendar and the multiple times he now-​showed or canceled spanned weekday, weekend, multiple morning appointments, and afternoon/​evening appts and one we even left as «morning flexible» to work around his schedule. There was no attempt to return our money – if I am upset enough to write a Unilocal review why wouldn’t I return a communication about our missing money. Jason’s listed address is 10 minutes away from our home and he has been and remains free to drop the money he owes us in our mail slot.

Jason and crew recently finished up a basement renovation for me. We went from a completely unfinished basement to the Man Cave of my Dreams! Jason’s attention to detail, communication skills, and focus on costs made him the perfect choice for this project. My home was recently remodeled before I purchased it so I had to have the best come in and knock this out! I would highly recommend Mitchell Handyman for any home finishing or remodeling projects. And I will be hiring him again soon for my backyard adventures. Thanks again!

We hired Jason to help us fix a number of issues in our Evanston condo. The list included a leveling issue with our bathroom vanity that Jason tackled by fabricating some additional supports. It was so well done it looked like it was part of the original vanity. He also helped with some lighting issues, plumbing issues/​garbage disposal issues, removing a pesky stripped screw, etc. He was on time, professional and charged a reasonable rate. We highly recommend Jason.

Mitchell kindly came to my house on a Saturday and very short notice to unclog a sink and install new pipes. He was a great combination of professional, friendly, efficient — I couldn’t ask for more, and highly recommend him.

I would highly recommend Jason for any type of work needed in the house. He did an extensive amount of electrical work in our kitchen and we are delighted with the results. He took out old fixtures, installed new ones, as well as problem solving other electrical issues that he found. He was professional, competent and quite the perfectionist. He worked around our schedule and got the job done in a very timely manner. I will definitely be hiring him again in the near future with other projects.

I had very minor jobs in my unit in Evanston and I was having a hard time finding someone to come out to do them. I found that to be short sighted of them as I could have bigger problems, issues in the future and recommend them to others so they could potentially have more business. Anyway, the job was not too small for Jason… he called me right away and scheduled time to come and assess the situation. He worked with my tenants to schedule time and fixed everything. I hired Jason for a number for projects around the house including drywall, electric, tile, and plumbing. He did awesome, professional work and finished every job extra clean. He had excellent recommendations on how to do everything and he transformed our blah bathroom into a real showroom. Planning to hire him again when we’re ready to completely redo the kitchen later this year.

We used Jason’s Handyman Service to replace a small section of our sidewalk. Most other companies that we contacted did not want to bid on such a small Job. About 20 feet of the sidewalk needed to be replaced. Jason replaced the sidewalk in a very professional manner. He spent extra time to make sure that his sidewalk looked just like the original. We will definitely use his services again.

Jason works closely with an excellent professional painter whom I have used for years and so had been recommended his services by her. Jason’s work is second to none with high attention to detail and goes the extra mile to ensure all his work is perfect. He has great follow up and is extremely flexible around your schedule. I would recommend him to anyone who is needing handyman services who is refuses to sacrifice quality. Very pleased.
