Great Irish pub atmosphere! I was here on Saturday night and they had live music which was cool to stay and enjoy after our dinner/drinks. The calamari is great and so is the split pea soup! Our main dishes were fish & chips and the honey glazed pork chop. The pork chop is AMAZING! The apple hash is so yummy and such a great accent to the pork. This restaurant is so nice and quaint. I look forward to going back. The service was also very timely and the food came out quick as well!

Great food & atmosphere. I had the lamb stew, which was wonderful! I suggest the Fries with curry sauce as a great starter. Live music on a Saturday night, cozy atmosphere and great beer… What more could you ask for?

this has long been one of our favorite go to spots in evanston. the service is always outstanding and the food is great irish pub fare with a good selection of authentic beers on tap. its great to grab a table in the window and watch people walk by or grab a table on the sidewalk in the summer. we have not attended one of the storytelling sessions on sundays but plan to soon. the place is well run and well worth it.

A classmate and I popped in for a quick lunch on a Saturday at noon. I wasn’t sure if it was open since there was no one in there, but they were open :) We sat up in the front window area to people watch since neither of us get out of the house often. The menu looks great — and I walk by here two evenings a week, and it looks like a proper pub should — nice mellow lights, people in conversation, drinking and dining. The nice bartender came over to take our order and we chatted about soups briefly. He did say the Peawak(split pea with ham) was good. And it was. :) My mom just made soup last week and made the broth with the lamb and prime rib bones from Chirstmas — it had such a nice verlvety, hearty warm feel to it. And so, did the soup at the Celtiv Knot. Someone took a lot of care to make a fantastic coup. $ 5.25 for a pretty good size bowl of warm soup on a freezing day!

I am a frequest visitor to the Celtic Knot. It’s my favorite little spot in Evanston. Especially, after work on a Friday night, for Happy Hour. The staff, especially the bartenders, are very friendly. They make my cocktails really strong, just how I like ‘em. It’s dark, smells like an old school bar, which I like. It smells like a true Pub. If that sounds silly, sorry. Just love the atmosphere at the Knot. Cheap, too. You can literally spend $ 20 on 5 cocktails. I may be overexaggerating just slightly on that amount. However, the times when I tend to have a few at the Knot, and I get the check, I am always pleasantly surprised, at how small the amount is. The food is good, and inexpensive, too. The corned beef and cabbage is my favorite entrée! Their bacon wrapped dates are yummy, too. Another one of my faves are the cheese balls! OMG, their cheese balls! I usually munch on those when I don’t order a full meal. I love the Celtic Knot!

Not the greatest beer selection(of course they can’t compete against nearby WOB), but there still are enough choices that are decent such as Kilkenny(few bars ever have that on tap), a few local choices like Revolution beers, and also good food. I’m particularly a fan of the curry and chips(fries) side you can get here. One of these days, I’ll finally try going on a night they do live music. And also, I’d like to see what the afternoon tea menu is like, as mentioned on Carolynne’s review. Bathroom is downstairs, but they do have an elevator down there for the handicapped to use, unlike other restaurants that have the bathroom on a different floor.

The Celtic Knot has a cozy, inviting ambience and comforting food. For dinner I split the roasted portabella sandwich with Irish and American cheddar, served with potato chips. I also shared the spicy salmon patty, which came with thick, golden French fries. The salmon patty was not spicy but it was delicious and it was my favorite of the two dishes.

This is a great neighborhood pub. The Knot is a friendly place to hang out and drink or dine. Recent delivery from GrubHub was very fast. They make very good«chips»(like American steak fries) and sumptuous curry sauce! They serve a nice lamb burger, and good beef burgers, among other things… surprisingly good salads. Bangers and mashed is served with some really lovely homestyle gravy, and the usual type of baked beans. Good weekday drink specials and nice/free live music! Going to events in the«Snug» sounds fun and mysterious. The wait staff is really nice and professional but friendly. I sense that an owner is often present. Not too brightly lit… if only I could regularly stumble upon a chess game here, it would be perfect.

I think Celtic Knot has become my favorite Chicago area Irish Pub. We had an early dinner here again today after a nearby doctor’s appointment. We almost had the place to ourselves. Unfortunately we were too early for the music, but we had a very nice meal. My only disappointment was the appetizer we got. It was corned beef and cream cheese balls, rolled in crushed walnuts with horseradish sauce for dipping. It wasn’t bad, but it was cold. I guess I assumed it would be warm. I think it would have been better if it were warmed a bit. Mom and Christopher had the corned beef and cabbage and I had their lamb shank with mashed potatoes. Both were very good. I love the feel of this place. It is comfortable and the food is good. The Tuesday night entertainment is lots of fun. I just have to make sure to time my visits better, so we can hear the music.

Me and a friend came to Evanston for an impromptu getaway and decided to come to this spot randomly. Our bartender, Tudor was phenomenal and made us feel welcome and gave us suggestions for other places to go to on our«Sunday Funday.» This place rocks and the staff rocks.

Hands down the best hot wings ever. Sauce is spot on and the wings aren’t breaded and fried like at BWW. Atmosphere is warm and inviting. We keep coming back!(For the wings. Seriously they’re great.)

Fun Irish pub to go to on the weekend for live music. The music was not so loud that you couldn’t have a conversation with your table, but loud enough to create a high energy environment. The band played classics, so it was fun to sing along and eventually the customers started dancing. I only had drinks while I was here, but the food options seemed to be what you would find at any Irish pub. I can see why this pub is attractive to students — live music and affordable food and drinks.

Had a surprisingly good salad here. We stopped in for lunch while spending a day in Evanston because the kids were in an all-day program. My salad had a good, slightly sweet dressing on it and was topped with a goat cheese croquette coated with herbs. Satisfying but still light enough to feel healthy. Bartender made a nice strong gin & tonic, too. We’d definitely go back.

Was here celebrating a friends engagement and had never been. Once I walked in the door I was warmly greeted, and was very comfortable in the place. It was lit well, and didn’t have music or tvs blasting every which way. Amazing appetizers and moderately price drinks and food. But the service stood out. Jeremy an Max were very attentive and friendly. Great time. Will visit again.

Simply put, my wife and I Love The Knot. We find it to be a place in Evanston that we make a point of taking visiting family members and friends to have a great meal when they are in town. The Atmosphere: Fantastic! You at once feel warm and welcome with the traditional Irish pub setting. The owners are always welcoming with a smile and the staff makes a point of saying hello when they recognize regulars even if they are not serving you. One of our favorite parts is that unless a big event is occurring(i.e. World Cup, Stanley Cup etc) you will not find TVs to distract you from good food and good company. Lastly the live music really brings it all together, my wife and I make a point of visiting when a wonderful band called One of The Girls puts on a live show The Food: Consistently Delicious! What more can I say? My favorites are undoubtedly the Chips and Gravy and the Boston Corned Beef, my wife loves the Chicken and Chicken Soup and we both consider the Burgers to be best in town. The Service: Great, as previously stated the staff is welcoming and attentive. It’s great to see the owners there every visit and the staff doesn’t seem to have a high turnover so you will consistently have the same great service. The Drinks: Fairly Priced, Generous Pours, Good Selection. If you enjoy authentic Irish Food, Drink, Atmosphere, and Craic than this is the spot for you.

My entire review hinges on one simple question: ISTHISMOLD? It was my first trip to the Celtic Knot. I ordered the corned beef sandwich, which was decent, and the fries were good as well. But I stopped eating my sandwich when I discovered this possibly-mold. I thought it was mold; the waiter thought it was not, and others’ responses upon seeing this picture have ranged from«yes» to «possibly.» So, Unilocalers, think on it: is this mold? If it is – negative stars. If it’s not – maybe 3.5 or 4. It’s up to you.

Celtic Knot is unquestionably the best bar in Evanston — hands down. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a true irish pub experience — from the salty regulars who hang out at the bar, the frequent live Irish music, and the cozy, inviting setting. The staff is consistently great, taking care of you in a timely, friendly manner. The food is spectacular too, although it can be a bit on the heavy side. I wouldn’t go there if you were expecting a lite, healthy meal, but they do have great corned beef and cabbage and fish and chips. The atmosphere is what really makes this place special. There’s no way to put it other than that it’s just really cozy and welcoming. In the bitter Chicago winter, there’s no better respite than coming in here for drink, food, and cheer.

Came out to the Celtic Knot to start our girls day this weekend. The place was quiet, even though they served a brunch menu. The service was good… server was attentive and checked in at the right time. I was a little disappointed in the recommendations that the server gave… they seemed generic and somewhat of a «canned» response because he’d never tried the food. The food was good, but nothing super exciting or wow-ing. We started with the irish brown bread, which was tasty. With the price(almost $ 4), there were only three pieces, which seemed a little overpriced for slices of bread. I had the bangers and mash, subbing the beans and gravy(eww beans!) for homemade chips. I’ve never had bangers in a restaurant, but frequently purchase them from a local farmers market vendor. The meal was tasty, but it didn’t seem any different than what I could have made at home. The chips on the other hand, were made very well! I’ve had homemade chips where some are crispy and some are soggy because they weren’t fried properly. These were very thin and crispy! I typically need some sort of dipping sauce, and the server suggested a side of their curry which was a good addition. It almost made me think I should have had something with the curry instead! Overall this place was good… nothing mind blowing, but good food.

Every once in a while, I end up coming back to Celtic Knot with a few friends. It is located near NU, so it’s a popular location with the students, especially with the wildcard discount. I have tried some items on the menu, but the one that stand out(and reasonably priced) is the chicken wings. It comes with about 8 – 9 fat chicken wings covered in either barbecue, terriyaki, or hot sauce, unlimited blue cheese, and a basket of fat fries. It’s piping hot, and the only thing I will come to snack on. Together it’s about $ 10 but with the discount it turns out to be $ 9, and can easily feed two people. An OK establishment for pub food.

Spinach salad with salmon is incredible! You get a HUGE bowl of spinach, mine was the freshest spinach I’ve ever had! The salmon is cooked perfectly… a little bit of crust with delicious spices, but falls apart deliciously. The herb dressing is a great match for this salad. Other great choices: butternut squash & goat cheese sandwich, FRIES. Onion rings are pretty medium.
