I will start this review by saying that I have only been to a few small town optometrists. Never in Eureka, and so I was kind of anxious about doing so. My glasses recently broke. I had no option but to find a place in Eureka, and I hadn’t had an eye exam in seven years so it was time for a new prescription. I opted to go to Site for Sore Eyes because it popped up first in my Unilocal search. I was a bit shy about coming in to a place when I could not even see. I showed up a little early for my appointment I scheduled online at Site For Sore Eyes. I filled out the appropriate paperwork and even though I was blind and had to put my face just a few inches away from the papers I was filling out the staff was super friendly and nice about it. I was surprised to hear that the eye exam was only $ 69 because I usually paid twice that when I regularly went in my small town. Despite showing up twenty minutes early and taking fifteen minutes to fill out the paperwork the optometrist called me in a few minutes ahead of schedule. He was very friendly and made mental notes of all the eye problems I told him and referenced them later. The eye test was very relaxing here. At the end he wrote out my new prescription and I was off to choose new frames. The staff was friendly and my friend who accompanied me even made jokes that the staff and I laughed about. It was a super stress free situation. I ended up showing a male member of the staff a picture of the style of frames I wanted and he found a frame very close to it. The prices were reasonable, and the staff went over each option very carefully explaining the advantages and disadvantages. I left knowing that I made the right choices and ended up spending just north of $ 500 which is pretty good without insurance. When the glasses came in I got a super friendly call notifying me they were in. I picked them up without having to wait in a line. After getting them I noticed they didn’t quite fit right and so I brought them in without making an appointment and the staff was super friendly and personable about bending the ear pieces. They went the extra mile to make sure they fit just right, and were friendly even when I told them the adjustments I wanted them to make. Basically… this place is awesome. I’ve never had a more positive experience when purchasing glasses or even in getting my eyesight examined. I recommend them.

My husband and I have been coming here for years. Appointments are easy to get and the store manager, Steve, is well versed in all the store has to offer. Thanks to Steve, our visits have always gone smoothly. He’s very knowledgeable about our insurance policies and has always been able to answer any of our questions. It’s always nice to see a familiar face behind the desk in any health care setting and having Steve there over the years we’ve frequented this business has made for a pleasant experience.

I took in some Versace frames I had just bought specifically so they could put lenses in when they retuned them the frames were really scratched and bent. These are not cheap. He was bending them at the bridge and I was holding my breath I thought they were going to snap! I asked them to keep my original lenses and when I asked him for them he had to dig them out of the trash!

Unhappy with the entire experience. The optometrist didn’t go over specifics with me. I am still having problems. Spent $ 400. on frames that broke a few weeks later. Not sure my prescription is correct. Going elsewhere. Heard Costco is good.

I went to Site for Sore Eyes to get my eyeglass RX updated and get some new glasses. It was an easy in-and-out visit. I saw the eye-doctor, got my new prescription, picked out some frames, and was out the door. It only took a week or so to get my glasses back, and they were perfect. The manager and receptionist were super-friendly, and the prices are pretty decent as well. I’ve already recommended this place to my friends and co-workers, and am thinking about going back to have RX lenses put into my shades =)

Went to update my prescription. What really drew me in over other places was that I could make an appointment on-line, and that went without a hitch. Overall a good place. They really got down to business, the guy working the counter seemed nice enough wasn’t really a conversationalist. But as soon as I had my paperwork filled out the doctor came out and met me, no wait time whatsoever. He was nice, and knew what he was doing, which is always a plus. They got me in and out real quick, with a new prescription and new contacts. The whole thing was about 15 mins and $ 99 bucks, no complaints.

Limited on selection of frames. Otherwise fine for what it is.

Well I would of gave a 5 since they had the glasses I wanted, but the doctor said this… «Where you from?» –Doc «Jersey but I was in SF the last 3 years before coming up to Humboldt» –me «Oh nice, what part of the city» — Doc «The sunset» — me «The sunset? Why did you want to live with all asians?» — Doc I don’t know what that meant, but I thought it was very lame to say.

I read the other reviews. Guess that’s why these things exist, to get all perspectives. I’ve never had a problem with SFSE. I agree the younger man out front can be a little terse, but I came in for contacts and had fine service, had to cancel a couple of appts and they were more than agreeable about it. My rx is actually the best I’ve ever had. Haven’t tried to buy glasses here, yet…

wow. this place takes the cake for worst service of a customer service-oriented establishment. i have dealt with both employees. the man with the glasses i actually had to ask to stop being so rude. the tone of his voice was one of irritation and annoyance the whole time. god it infuriates me just thinking about how i get treated here. Their deals are confusing. they try to advertise really amazing prices and then when you get in there its really not so great. then, when their deals are obviously confusing and contradictory to each other, the employee gets mad at the customers who need clarification. this happened to me and the other customers i saw in there when picking out and picking up my pair. last time i checked, you are just a guy who works in a glasses store… no need/room for attitude. the elderly woman employee isnt a whole lot better either. they have a very small 99 dollar plastic frames rack. if i werent poor, i would never go here because the experience, every time, is HORRIBLE. ive had about 4 – 6 bad experiences here thus far. i now expect to have a bad experience when going in here to get a new pair of cheap glasses, so i try to plan it for a time when it wont ruin a crucial part of my day. but the price is right in a county where there just arent a lot of cheap options. i CANNOTWAIT until the day i can afford to not go to this store.
