A small friendly sports bar crammed with TV’s. Good prices, surprisingly good food, and lots of loyal habitués keep this spot on our A-List of Eugene sports bars.

SAMs Place is tucked back in amongst industrial businesses and so unless you know it’s here, you’d probably miss out. From the outside you really don’t know what will lie behind the door. The exterior has a rustic look with cedar siding & a green metal roof. It’s clean, but it has that look/feel of an old tavern. Walk through the door & your pleasantly surprised to find yourself in a GREAT Sports Bar! Tons of big screen TVs surround the space with a great selection of games on & even a show or two of classic cars/hot rods. They have pool & poker machines too. The food is very good and they have a great selection of brews/spirits served by friendly staff. So come check it out :-)

Horrible experience! I will start this review with letting you all know that I work in the service industry, so when it comes to eating out the food is only half the experience. A group of 7 other people and myself decided to order the prime rib(18.99 $ each). I picked up the order and brought it back home only to find that 6⁄8 of the prime rib were GREEN. Not even kidding. GREENMEAT! This isn’t even the upsetting part! I call them to let them know I have received rotten meat. The person on the other end not only tells me that it is fine and that I should just eat it but then proceeded to tell me that it might just be a green stamped they used to «stamp» their meat. I know I’m only 24 and look young, but I wasn’t aware that I looked that stupid. He was trying to tell me that each cut of meat they took and stamped with a green stamp… Really BRO!!! I don’t think I want to consume your green stamp either. After they refused to take back our food I decided to take it to the next level. I drove my irritated butt down there to showed them the meat, this time in front of other customers. They are STILL trying to tell me that I need to just get over it and eat it! WHAT!!! NO! Anyway, after he decided I was too annoying to deal with any further he decided to give us our money back. Hallelujah!!! I want to end this long review by saying, if this restaurant would have responded in an appropriate way to this situation I would have totally different feelings about this. I probably would have brought the food back and got something else. But now I know better. I will NEVER step foot in this place and will NEVER recommend this place to even my worse enemy. If you eat here just hope there is bathroom available because most likely you will have the poops(from their stamp of course).

Added fresh squeezed juice to some of their drinks. Sounds great until you get the bill. Jim is charging $ 2 for a shot of juice! Thanks but maybe I’ll go somewhere that cares about it’s customers.

Perfect setting for enjoying after game or during game atmosphere. Waitress was spunky and a delight. Old school type burger which reminded of one my favorite old haunts. Would definitely return.

MYONLYSUGGESTION: On taco nights, ask them what is put on your fish or pork taco! DONOT I repeat, DONOT just assume the ordinary. Other than what I just encountered of weird pork tacos(you will have to figure out the sauce yourself), Sam’s place is filled with relatively awesome waiters and waitresses just don’t always expect a warm smile and friendly attitude. Food is why I’m here and the items on the menu is what I will stick to instead of the mysterious tacos with no description anywhere.

Breakfast too… My wife and I decided to try Sam’s for breakfast last weekend as one of our regular spots was crazy busy. We have had lunch and dinner at Sam’s, but have never tried the breakfast. Wow, we will be back for sure! The best bacon I have had in a long time, really flavorful sausage gravy, crispy hash browns, eggs cooked to perfection, and delicious french toast! We were thrilled with everything we had, great prices, friendly staff, and fast service… A perfect start to our Sunday for sure!

I used to go to this place weekly! Its a great little spot with a cute little patio. The food is pretty good. The albacore tuna melt is absolutely delicious! My only complaint is that the sides they offer aren’t very good or consistant. The fries aren’t that great, the macaroni salad is ALWAYS changing because I think they just buy different pre made ones. Other than that the food is pretty good and the atmosphere is great :)

Got a burger and fries and it was just meh, like the two star rating says. The beef patty was a decent size, but absolutely flavorless. They added plenty of tomato, icberg, and white onion but neglected to put dill pickles on it. I don’t know if that was a slip or not, but I tell you what… a burger is not a burger without pickles. Speaking of what’s missing, there also wasn’t any mustard on it and their burger sauce was way too sweet for me. Fries were shoestring, which I prefer, but they were kind of stale and not very hot. Granted, I did have this brought to me, but it’s a short drive. Overall, what can you do? It’s bar food.

Came for lunch… it’s my first time here… great little place. Food is ok, I think I just ordered the wrong thing, special turkey mushroom Swiss burger $ 8. Fries were great and everyone else’s food looked great, especially the salads. Lots of people here but no wait. Nice and bright(for a bar) and lots of tv’s. I also got some cookies to go, $ 1.50 for 2, I really liked them. I’ll be back to try something else… like prime rib on Friday nights.

Great friendly service and good bar food. Especially the pan fried oysters! Best I’ve tasted in the world. Unfortunately they have been out of them the last two times. Could be the last straw.

This place is pretty darn good. The pan fried oysters are absolutely melt in your mouth scrumptious. Staff is super friendly. The only reason I don’t give 5 stars is because it’s not over the top amazing. For a sports bar, it’s awesome.

Just had one of the best French dips ever. Ham and bean soup was great. Second time here and we will be coming back.

Sam’s Place is consistently above average. Prices are great, good service and most Fridays too packed to find a seat. One of my favorite places for a good local meal.

I’ll go with 4, because 5 is pretty serious praise. :) Among all the places I enjoy, for the multitude of reasons I enjoy them… Sam’s is among my favorites. I would say that if you’re expecting gourmet steaks, exquisite drinks, or some other such nonsense… from a «bar» like this… you’re not only possibly retarded, but perhaps a bit of a diva, too. Don’t get me wrong. It’s alright to be a retarded diva, if you want to be, but your judgment may viewed as suspect – by me anyway. I’m clearly no expert, about much of anything really. But I do a damned lot of dining out, in a lot of cities between Canada and SF, on a weekly basis. So I feel a little like I’ve got some«cred» when it comes to dining out. But, I digress. And to each their own, eh? Onto the establishment… I’ve always found the staff here to be exactly what I’d expect = friendly and as prompt as can reasonably be expected. The food is good enough. I surely won’t say it’s worth a drive from 100 miles out for any of the items I’ve had. But it’s good enough that I return a few times per quarter, living just 10 mins away. I like the big ass burger, though(in my humble estimation) it’s not not as good as a bacon guac six dollar burger from Carl’s Jr., to me. And it doesn’t even begin to approach the level of awesome I’ve found in a dozen other burgers, but that may be more a symptom of my Cookie Monster type palate, than a reflection of their food quality? I have had a few different sammiches here, some nachos, and a whooooooole lot of tacos(27 in one sitting, to be precise), taco champ!, and haven’t been supremely disappointed by any yet. In summary… the place is relatively clean, the staff is cordial(and ever changing), the food is decent, the prices are fair, and the hefeweizen is always cold. I like Sam’s for an occasional sit down with friends and a burger + brew. If you bring the right attitude, have reasonable expectations, and smile more often than you frown… you’ll probably enjoy Sam’s as well. The negative I might add, is that it gets kinda busy here and the parking/seating gets a little tight. But I’d never actually call that a criticism… just something to be mindful of, if/when you consider heading to Sam’s.

Of the dozen or so bar and grills we have tried in town, Sam’s has the best bar food. Hurray for the cook — hope she stays.

I think this is a great little sports bar. Their food is pretty good and it’s a nice, relaxed atmosphere. All the people I have interacted with there(staff) have been great. I have heard fantastic things about their prime rib dinner… I have not yet had it, but I did taste their smoked prime rib on a Saturday morning for breakfast. YUMMY!

While in town, some friends had suggested we head over to Sam’s Place. I had never been here before, so I was open to the idea. When we walked in there were a few older guys jammin’ on some 6 strings. I forget their names, but they seem to come here often. They had some talent I give them that, but we would’ve rather played pool… so it be known. The vibe I got from the place was great right off the bat. I liked the wood finished inside with TV’s all over the place, and when I say all over the place, i am even talking about the small flat screens in the booths. Sport junkies dream I tell ya… We ordered some food, I went with the«Big Ass Burger». Major let down of a burger to be honest, yes, it was good sized, but it didn’t taste like a fresh meat patty would, nor did any other aspects of the burger jump out at me. I can easily scrath those burgers off my bucket list. My friend and I enjoyed the back patio. It was a cold ass night, and the heat lamp they had were awesome. They had 2 flat screens out side on the patio as well, I liked being able to follow the games while being outside as well. The bartender really messed up on the bill(s) though. There was about 10 of us who all showed up together. Well, between 5 couples a few different tabs were all combined based off the type of drinks they were having. All the girls were drinking the same foofy thang, and the spouses were kinda just being tossed in here and there. I even asked to open my own separate tab and they ran my card for $ 1 and put the drinks else where. I think that if a customer asks to have their OWN tab opened, no matter what the size of party enters the door and what they’re drinking, they should be able to have their own tab. I’m pretty sure you’re with me on this one… right? Right… So for me personally the highlight to the place is the décor, college team penants, Corona themed, ducks memorabilia, felt like a great sports bar, but with food that was 1 star and service that was 3(service was good minus the whole tab ordeal…) I will drop a 3 star rating on them for now, really considering a 2 though…
