Massive portions, very fresh, delicious Mexican food. I had the two taco meal with rice and beans(carne and adobado,) while my husband had the nachos with the carnitas. I finished one taco, most of the rice and beans and was only able to take a bite out of the second taco. Prices were more than reasonable as well, especially given the portion size.

I came to try this place out cause of the review. To my surprised… it was a bit overrated. I didn’t come here to pay to wait for 20 minutes to get a smartazz remark when I asked, «Hey, do you know how much longer?» «This is not McDonald, so your order will be ready in the order it was received.» Really??? If it was McDonald, I wouldn’t have been here in the first place. Came in at about 630am or so. Was expecting to get it quicker considering the time I went so I can make it to work. Who would’ve thought otherwise for 2 burritos, the time exceed over 20 minutes. I got more than just 2 burritos for what it’s worth. I got a smartazz thinking I’m desperate for their food. I believe I can settle for a $ 6 Machaca burrito elsewhere without a 20minute wait and some a-ho remarks to start my day.

I absolutely love this hidden gem! The owners are always so polite, the food is amazing and I mean everything is amazing! The asada fries are the best I have ever had, meat is so tender and guacamole fresh. My fiancé loves the sancho burrito which contains eggs, asada, cheese and tater tots. All the servings can feed at least two to three people depending on how hungry everyone is. The only things I can say negatively about Diego’s place is that the building is dated and not really a sit down place(true hole in the wall feel), sometimes you can’t call in an order and ordering inside takes a good 20 – 30 minutes to get your food, the hours are from 6−4pm Monday thru Friday and a lot of people get upset about that. But in my opinion the taste of the food rules out any issue. I recommend this place to everyone!

I have never given 5 stars on a restaurant that you do not get full table service, but the food and the service deserves it. I wish they were open outside of regular business hours and especially wish they were open on weekends. Ive had fries with adobada and once had a salad with carne, both were freakn phenomenal! My kids love their food too.

I wish this place had longer business hours, hard to make it here anymore! This is a fantastic place to swing by and grab a breakfast burrito or Lunch, EVERYTHING is good here, the food takes a bit to get to you but its always fresh, they are friendly, the pricing is great. Again my singular complaint is that they close so early!

Wow! The customer service here is from another era! I grew up in a small town and the service here reminds me of the kind you only get at great family owned restaurants. Something like this is just so rare in bigger cities. In addition, the food is amazing. The food here takes a little longer than most places to be prepared but it is well worth it since it tastes so great.

The best breakfast burrito in town. The staff always greets you with a smile and often remembers your order. The hot sauce is killer and the quality of the tortillas is incredible. I always bring friends here when I’m in town! It’s a hidden gem.

Found this hole in the wall spot down the street from my Honda dealership. I wanted Mexican food, so found this place on Unilocal.Thank you Unilocalers! All I have to say was I had the best tacos ESPECIALLY the fish tacos EVER. OMG it was delicious! For only 2 bucks and some change you get a big generous amount of fresh, crispy fish and fresh veggies with their delicious creamy sauce. Not only do they give you one piece of fish but two big pieces! I’m not from around the area but I would drive 20mins just for their tacos and the prices. The service there is also amazing. The lady at the cash register is so sweet and welcoming. I will be back for sure!

My only complaint here is that they are not open later! There food is always good, they have a nice varied menu so there are always good things to try, the price here is fair and they are super friendly!

Place is awesome!!! Every time I’m in Escondido this is my choice for lunch. They make the best burritos and one time I asked for a recommendation and now their shrimp burrito is my new favorite. I think anyone who enjoys good Mexican food needs to eat here.

I swear I wrote a review for this before, but it seems to have disappeared. I’m a big fan of this place. Most importantly, the carne asada is epic, and the service is notably friendly. The interior of the restaurant could stand for a good upgrade, but it works. The horchata is great. The cashiers go out of their way to make sure you get what you want, and are extremely helpful. I’ve been here a couple times and will probably be back for more. It’s a great spot in the auto park area for hard-working people on a lunch break :) Honestly, the only reason it’s missing the 5th star is the lack of ambiance/environment when dining in. I do feel a little weird & out of place in the low-end-diner feel of the restaurant table & seating area.

5 stars, cause I have nothing to complain about as far as the food. Today was my first time ordering from here, and I can already tell that I’ll be coming back and bringing friends. I wanted a pretty buff burrito, and I got just what I wanted from Diego’s. I came during a busy time, so I didn’t mind the wait. I ordered 2 burritos and a drink to go. They gave me my drink while I waited, and drank it slow cause it’s. I got the chance to see how friendly and familiar they are with their customers. I don’t remember how long it took for my order to come to me, but when it did I was really surprised when they offered to top off my drink before I left! Idk it was really nice and unexpected but very appreciated. The only thing I had trouble with was finding a place to park, but once you do it’s worth it! Enjoy!

Do not be fooled by its location in an small street hidden by the Escondido auto park, for this place is way better and taster than the Lucha Libre every tourist visits and waits an hour for. Not only are they super kind, but super on top of their service. I asked for guac on the side for my pops, as I am sadly allergic, and they pumped us up with it. Hungry for the day … I got all tacos, which were all massive and incredibly delicious. I would go again and again.

Escondido’s hidden gem tucked away in back alley of Escondido auto/industrial park. I have lived in Escondido area 20plus years driven past this street 100 times and never seen it. The women working the counter is very helpful and polite. Staff also speaks very good english which doesn’t affect me but could be very useful for others. I ordered the burrito de Adobada on of my favorite marinated meats. This places does not disappoint, best Adobada i can remember having. Full of flavor and not to dry.

Technically 4.5 star but because the lady who works at the register is so awesome, I rounded it up to 5. The taco was really good. I got the soft 6″ carne asada and the monster breakfast burrito that’s meant for a meat lover. There’s eggs, ham, sausage and bacon along its cheese in the burrito. I can get why this is a favorite but it was too overwhelming for me. It’s a burrito I need to be medicated(lol) in order to gulp down. It’s good though don’t get me wrong — it was just too much meat for me. I would definitely come back

Hello Diego’s Place! Seriously I drive past this place so often in the day that I never noticed, since they are well in the industrial side of Escondido. Looked up Mexican food on Unilocal and knew I had to find the place. Arrived shortly before noon on a lunch break with my partner and thank goodness it wasn’t as busy, yet. Business really picked up around 12:30pm. Anyway they don’t have much seating as the place is fairly small but people come and go, and many do order to go. There is usually one lady in the front counter(2 people when it gets peak hours) and the cook(s) in the back. I don’t know how many cooks but they certainly are efficient with their time. For first timers like us, you come in, look at the menu by the counter, and then place your order and pay there. After that you get handed your drink and are able to sit at a table of eating in, or just wait on the side of the front counter for your order. It’s great you can actually customize your orders(my partner wanted the lunch enchilada but only wanted 1, and lady at the front counter – I will get her name next time – said she could do 1 and put in an order for 1 enchilada combo…“no worries”). You can order up a burrito, taco, etc with the meat of your choice(I believe they have vegetarian options as well). Partner ordered his enchilada with beef, and I ordered 4 rolled taco lunch combo with a to go order of an adobada burrito(for the bf). Once you get your food, she swings by with both salsas(red and green sauces) in a squirt bottle. The red one is super spicy though so do a taste test before you commit your food item in a spicy showdown. Green sauce is of medium spice so that was good enough for me. Hours later I was able to give the bf his burrito, and although not as fresh, he loved it. Didn’t even need to use as much salsa that I brought home because there was already a spicy sauce mixed with the adobada. They are only open during the day which sucks when I have a dinner craving. So best bet is to ask someone to order for you during the day, or ask for a longer lunch break… I’m just saying. I hear the breakfast burritos are some of the most popular items but maybe next time. Do check this«hidden» place out. An expansive menu with lots of choices and combinations. Friendly and speedy service. Oh, and the prices are fairly inexpensive too. Great for my budget. Just one bathroom but it was fine. Double thumbs up!
