I tried to return a carry on whose handle broke while using it in Italy-most inconvenient. I was told at the store that you can’t return an item past 60 days. I would think defective items would be hamdled differently. They called the department but there were no other of the same items left. I was using the bag, so obviously I removed the tag with a SKU on it. They would not even give me a store credit or put value toward a replacement. I have been a loyal and frequent shopper at Steinmart for many years. Now I will work hard to shop somewhere and will let all my friends know of my negative experience. Too bad they felt it was worth $ 35 to lose a customer for life.

This is a nice store to be sure, but I wish I could say the same about their customer service. I’ve never visited a Stein Mart before but what brought me here was a Scratcher in their ad in the Thanksgiving/Black Friday newspaper; I could get up to $ 100 off. It said, «Do not remove the seal» so I didn’t, I just scratched it and left it intact on the ad. My scratcher said $ 20 off so I decide to check out the store. But when I got to the register with my merchandise and presented the whole ad to the cashier, she told me in an annoyed tone that I had«invalidated» the coupon by scratching off the scratcher myself. What now? Then she proceeded to read to me what the scratcher said… do not remove the seal, seal must be removed by cashier. That doesn’t even make any sense. I didn’t remove the seal, I just scratched it, the entire ad is till intact otherwise. If they didn’t want me to scratch it, then it should say«DONOTSCRATCH.» And how would I know if it’s even worth coming in if I don’t know the value of the scratcher? Sheesh, anyway, she wouldn’t give me the discount. I kept asking her to make an exception because the instructions were confusing. She finally sighed and told me I needed to go shop some more even though I had already met the minimum required and she kept my coupon and merchandise behind the counter. I walked around the store for about a minute and decided to leave as I didn’t like how I was being treated. As I was getting near the register, I heard her tell another customer the same thing… apparently he didn’t follow the instructions neither and had already scratched off the scratcher before coming into the store; however, she decided to give him the discount anyway without giving him crap about it. So I went back up there and told her I wanted the same exception without having to buy anything else and she finally agreed. The other customer said he was also confused about the«do not remove seal» warning. Clearly, they need to be more clear about their instructions. She tore off the scratcher, or seal, or whatever you want to call it, and handed the rest of the ad back to the customer and told him that there was another coupon on the back he can use for another trip. I just asked if it was good with any merchandise in the store and she told me in a condescending tone, «Well, if you read the instructions, it says it’s only good on clearance items.» Whattacrabbybitch. Seriously, some people shouldn’t be put in front of customers. Customer service like that is enough to keep me away for good.

Steinmart Schteinmart. I never find anything good here. Wait, I lied, I found a scarf here once two years ago. But that’s been the extent of my luck. The staff is nice, which is good, although, they are overly willing to offer help, so at times I think I must look like a shop lifter or something and they’re just keeping an eye on me. I was here the other day, and I felt like I was walking into a Chico’s. It was a sea of loud quirky(and sometimes ugly) old lady clothes that cost a lot of money. Do you have a crazy aunt with a lot of cats? Bring her. The only redeeming factor for me at Steinmart is the jewelry section. They usually have a few cute costume jewelry items, and iPhone cases, etc. But definitely not where I’ll be going again looking for anything fashionable to wear. Well, until I’m 60 anyway.

Customer service sucks at this store… I have been there 3 times in the past 6 months and the last 2 times the cashier rings up my merchandise, the price is different than the signage on the table from which it came. When I brought the issue to the attention of the cashier I’m told«sorry, the price on the box is the correct price.» Example from today… I wanted to buy a watch that was on a table with numerous other watches tagged $ 24.99, but the large sale sign on the table was marked $ 19.99 in big red letters. I suggested the watch should be $ 19.99 as many other watches were also tagged $ 24.99 on the same table but JAYNE, the cashier, couldn’t be bothered to even pretend to check or ask a manager so I didn’t buy the watch. That crap is so irritating and almost false advertisement but nothing really able to prove. They just hope we’ll buy the stuff anyway becasue it’s not that big a difference. It’s the principle for sure… I don’t appreciate retail trickery, if $ 24 watches are purposely stocked(& it definititely wasn’t accidently in the wrong place) on the $ 19 table… they should be $ 19 or stock them on a separate table marked $ 24. No more Steinmart for me.

What? No reviews yet? Come on, people! The store is wonderful! I go there once a month and never come out empty handed. They have clothes for different ages, home furnishing, toys, shoes and purses, purses, purses. Always great sales. Check it out, you might like it!
