Rustic 101

Purchased a beautiful armoire from Rustic 101 over seven years ago and it still looks gorgeous today. I’m looking for a cool rustic door… I saw that they moved from their Solana Beach location and I’m happy to say that I found them in Leucadia in their newer location. I can’t believe how friendly & knowledgable James and his staff are. Awesome local business!

We recently had a beautiful wrought iron gate installed in the front of our home by Rustic 101. The gate is truly a work of art. It was handcrafted by artisans in Mexico to our exactly specifications.
Jaime, the owner is easy to work with and the project ran on schedule.

I ordered a front door from Rustic 101 for around $ 4000.00. The materials used were not high quality, the finish work of the door was terrible and the length of time to delivery almost 9 months. If they attempted to fix damage they used tinted putty with their fingers with no attempt to smooth it out so left with large bumps complete with fingerprints otherwise, they just left splintered unfinished wood, not sanded as they did with the hinges, one of which was cut too large. (the door is dark so the unfinished wood really stands out). The door frame wasn’t screwed into the house so the door kept shifting not allowing us to open it and when they installed the frame, they discovered their measurements were off so they incorrectly cut into the house to jam it in and it wasn’t straight. The threshold of the door wasn’t nailed, screwed or glued in and there was daylight coming through under the door. Also, the door started to split as they didn’t use a solid piece of wood. End result is I have to purchase a new door but it won’t be from Rustic 101.

All I can say is WOW, wait till you see my courtyard door! Our neighbor’s down the street put in a door which was exactly what we wanted & they gave us Rustic 101’s address. We not only found the door for the courtyard but a beautiful front door. They send us updates on the progress & our door should be here in time for Xmas. If you have a photo of what you want bring it in & it will get built! I can’t say enough about this family owned place.

About a year ago, we hired James and his team to build a wooden gate for our side yard. The design of the gate is absolutely beautiful and the combination of wood and iron made us very happy with our purchase.
However, with all the rains that we had this winter, our wooded gate started to take in a lot of water and started to swell to the point where we could no longer open or close the gate. It became a very big issue.
We contacted James and let him know the problems that we were having and he came back and took care of it without issue. They drilled screws into the wood and filled the holes which completely camouflaged them and made the gate as good as new. The gate is working once again and it has been restored to its original beauty!
Because James stood by his work and repaired the gate, he is as good as it gets. It did take him a few weeks to resolve and I had to be diligent about keeping in touch with him but it wasn’t a big issue for me. Regardless of it all, I’d hire him again in a heartbeat. James is a wonderful and HONEST person with great integrity. Business owners like him are hard to come by these days. I’m only hoping one day we can give him more business.

For all us in San Diego, we’ve passed it hundreds of times as it’s right off the Highway 101 and a block away from Fletcher Cove. The beautiful iron gates he has on display will definitely catch your eye!
