I love coming here when I’m in the neighborhood. The food is always tasty, nice to have been on tap, and they give a generous portion of guacamole with the nachos. Friendly service and extensive menu with lots of vegetarian options. We will stop by again next time we are up north!

I had a horrible experience here. Let me start off by saying this first, I’m the type of person the gives tips based on the service, not the food. Bad service gets bad tip. Good service gets good tip. The food was very bland and they had a small selection of choices. My waitress was absolutely horrible. Blonde girl, glasses and she was working on December 7th2015 at about 9:30pm. After I was finished with my meal I get the bill. My waitress was so bad, needless to say, I tipped her poorly. As I was walking out the door(completely unsatisfied with the food and service) the waitress stopped me in my tracks and called me out on her tip shouting«why did you tip so bad?! Did I do something to offend you? Did I do anything wrong?!» I then explained that I tipped what I thought she deserved. And then I continued to walk out.

Why I came here: my boyfriend and I are new to California and always looking for«hole in the wall» restaurants or anything basically not a chain. So we were driving and actually parked on the street in front of a Mexican food place but decided to walk around before we chose and I’m glad we did. Atmosphere: Good, dark(lighting), décor is all over the place not really a theme. Service: Less than satisfactory, we walked in and only could see a cook threw the peep window. After a few moments a young girl came from the back and told us to sit wherever. Our actual server took drink and food orders and at the time it was dead, over our stay it eventually sped up(we went during lunch on New Year’s Day) and she kind of drifted to other tables forgetting about us and no one really helped her. I nor anyone at my table got asked for a refill or received one which was slightly irritating. But she was the only one actually serving so I understand. Once we were done and just sitting there she noticed and asked us how the food was and if we wanted our check.(This was her only check back to the table). Food: Very Good, my boyfriend and I chose the stuffed grape leaves(my boyfriends favorite) they were a little different than what we were used to but still TODIEFOR. I chose the veggie burrito which was NOT what I was expecting, it was way more food than I imagined and in a wet burrito style, it was like my fathers stew in a whole wheat wrap. Very good. My boyfriend got fish tacos, looks are deceiving I thought it looked weird, my boyfriend loved it, me it wasn’t my thing. Brother got a gyro he gave it 7⁄10 the fries it came with were great. Sister in law got a fish sandwich she enjoyed it was a very large plate of salad with a sandwich. My niece ordered a grilled cheese and we ended up boxing it because it was so much for her. Would I recommend/go back to it: Yes the food was great and I hope the service improves.

My daughter has been asking me to come here and I think it’s because the name is appealing to a 10 year old girl:) I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with this restaurant! The service was on point from beginning to end! Our server, Scott was so thorough in answering every question we asked and was incredibly attentive, friendly and professional. I thought he was the owner since that’s normally the type pf service you get from someone who truly loves the business and what they do. The owner is lucky to have someone working for him who cares so much about his restaurant! My family and I loved our food! The nachos were delicious, probably the best we’ve ever had… make sure you get them with grilled onions. The«Artichoker» sandwich is a must a have as well!

Okay, eclectic menu, I would classify as Vegan/Mex/Pizza/Fish Place meets Encinitas/Leucadia. Out of this alchemy comes some very tasty dishes. We ordered the squash enchiladas(based on the server’s recommendation) and the vegetarian pizza. Neither disappointed, but the squash enchiladas were very tasty(this coming from non vegetarian). Service was friendly and attentive. Piece de resistance — Live music (Guitarist named Britt Doehring) Talented would not be a sufficient adjective, next big thing would be more appropriate. Tasty food+Good service+Music for the soul=5 stars! in Unilocal

I have been here before and not super impressed. I decided to try it again. I mentioned to the waitress I was not super impressed by the sandwich I had before, and what might be better. She told me if we didn’t like their food, don’t eat our food, and walked away. It was 6pm and only one other person was in the restaurant. There was a lot of yelling and cussing coming from the kitchen. The menus were old and sticky, and just papers in plastic protectors in a binder. We didn’t order anything to eat after the attitude from the waitress, but my friend already ordered a drink. She said it was fine. Overall just as disappointing as the first time.

Service sucked. Ambiance…(what ambiance?). Maybe the ambiance of Mel’s diner. Mel’s probably had more… But…anyway…food not that great… plus when you have to give money to people you really don’t like that doesn’t help. I get the feeling there is some big problems between waitstaff and owner. The waitresses seemed to hate being there. They were«politically acceptable» but you could tell they would rather have a fork stuck in their eye than be in there.

Not really sure how to categorize this place. They have mediterranean cuisine, pizza, Mexican, and American breakfast. The place is kind of divey and nice at the same time. The interior is divey, then they have this wonderful live guitar player doing fingerstyle covers of classic rock that is beautiful. The lights are nice and low and the décor, like the food, is mish mash. Service is very fast and friendly. There isnt a long wait, and there is ample room to sit and talk and not have people right on top of you. The location cant be beat; its right on the 101 in the heart of Encinitas. The prices are pretty high for what you get, and they also nickel and dime the shit out of you. For example, we got the pita and hummus. Came with 1 piece of pita then they charge you for extra pieces. The backlava was $ 2.50, then they give you one scoop of ice cream and ding you $ 3.50. The portion sizes were very small for the price, but also very good. The pizza was great and the various appetizers we got were all flavorful and great. If money or portion size isnt important to you, this place is awesome. The food and service are above average and the atmosphere leads to a great night of dining.

This place is definitely random, and the décor is just as confused as the menu: one part beach bar, one part vegetarian cuisine, one part mom and pop comfort food, and if that weren’t enough they have an ice cream parlor to boot. Randomness aside, they do serve some great food with good service. My go-to’s are the avocado burrito, and artichoker sandwich which is unreal. I actually hope they don’t change a thing! Just go.

Went to Roxy for the first time, biggest complaint is they need to figure out what kind of restaurant they want to be. Went for happy hour $ 4 Pacifico should really be $ 3. The Buffalo chicken really good along with the pizza also being tasty. Thumbs down on potato skins, mushy and you use scallions not red onions don’t be cheap. The fried breaded artichoke not bad but probably shouldn’t look black when served. I can tell the oil in the fryer is not changed frequently. Overall I would go back the staff was great and some of the most friendly and inviting folks to spend time with. I ask if you want to be Med. then serve the food and dump the pizza, don’t try capturing everyone that walks by with a disjointed menu. After surfing I would love a great gyro or fresh shawarma. You could even name it «swami’s special shawarma.» I’ll copyright that one!

Wow, I just had an experience that saddened me. I walked in here with my friend stoked to try this place out. Lots of vegetarian options for her and many choices for me. There are two entrances in the front and parking/an entrance in the back. We walked in and it was dead. I noticed it was happy hour I love getting different options so I ordered their nachos, a fish taco and a beer. My friend ordered the falafel entrée. Food came in a timely fashion, the waitress was sweet as can be and the food was good! I liked the carmelized onion on the nachos, my compliments to the chef. So what brought it to one star for me? Well when it was time to pay the bill the owner stands awkwardly behind the waitress as we tell her its our first time here, we have a living social and due to the pleasant first experience we shall return. I notice her and the owner walk away and she comes back apologetic I am sorry we can accept your voucher due to ordering HH prices. This policy HAS Never happened at any other establishment. She said instead she could go back and charge us full price for my happy hour selections and then take the voucher. I then told her to please tell the owner I will happily pay full price, tip her really well and my compliments to the chef but due to a TENDOLLAR difference he needed to make he lost customers, and a good review. I loathe greedy business owners, and I now know why you guys are empty. Makes sense.

A fun location located on the 101 and near the beach, this place has got some fun times ahead. I came here with a friend after walking around and wanted to get some ice cream. We headed over to the ice cream counter and got two single scoop ice creams. The ice cream here is delicious and homemade. You can tell that the ice cream that they sell at this location is very popular because the first two flavors that I ordered; they were all out of them! I had a hard time trying to find something that wasn’t too common in flavors and something that I wanted to try. I ended up getting their Peanut Butter Chocolate. Super delicious and the fact that there were trails of peanut butter in the chocolate ice cream just made the flavors that much better!

Hey decent place and great costal atmosphere. We live in Encinitas and this is the first time we have been here. Quick service and good food quality… It’s not packed and there wasn’t a wait for a table. Would definitely recommend

My second visit in years !!! Had a Groupon — $ 15 for $ 25 meal Basically got a good deal — Only paid in change ! Sweet ! Ambiance: On Highway 101 — Fall festival was happening here Street parking Great casual spot Grab a seat and waiter will provide menus We got a booth seating, but tables and chairs are also available as well as a bar. Bright and airy but could use some tidying and cleaning up Quite colorful, but outdated Separate male/female restrooms on opposite ends Mini ice cream parlor/case and cool fish tank Service: Attentive and friendly Water was refilled Coffee was freshly brewed and we were given a new batch when we found one of the creamers had some solids inside. EEWWW !!! Waiter was quick to fix the problem though. Menu: Vegan/vegetarian friendly ! WOOT ! You can also make substitutions to the dishes — Sweet ! Half Chef’s Salad is meatless, having a variety of vegetables: romaine lettuce, spinach, carrots, red cabbage, tomatoes, black olives, sprouts, artichoke hearts, avocado and no cheese. It’s a meal in itself ! The half is more than enough for me ! I definitely got my dose of veggies for the day ! The tahini dressing was also a good addition. I like that it’s in a separate container. I enjoyed the flavor of this and a healthier alternative to other dressings. Bf got the avocado omelet with two slices of WW toast and side salad — Generous portion and nicely plated. They weren’t skimpy on the avocado. They didn’t have jelly for the toast, which we thought was awkward. Most diners should have jelly yalls. Freshly squeezed orange juice ! Nothing tastes better than fresh ! We enjoyed this glass of OJ ! Coffee — freshly brewed to order ! Coffee cup to-go was dysfunctional and didn’t come with a coffee sleeve ! Kept spilling. Doh ! Verdict: 3.5STARS !!! Very affordable food ! Not the cleanest establishment, but if you’re not too picky and want a relaxed, chill, and laid back spot then this will do. It’s Encinitas after all !! You can people watch after. :D

I’d never heard of Roxy before my date suggested it but as soon as I checked Unilocal and saw that a good friend and fellow Unilocaler had given it four stars, I approved the restaurant choice. The majority of the menu is vegetarian, which was perfect for my vegetarian date, and I was able to find some delicious options as well. I decided on the Tomato Basil Pasta and found the simple pasta dish to be very flavorful and I wound up eating the entire plate of pasta, which is not often the case with me. The pasta was served with what seemed to be just a plain slice of wheat bread toasted and buttered. Not bad but not great either. My date raved about his Falafel Burger but quickly learned that there’s a reason that the burger is served wrapped in paper and that’s that the burger can quickly dissolve into a dripping mess. The burger is also served with an unexpectedly large side salad. This is definitely a restaurant for the health conscious as there are many healthy choices available that span a world of flavors.

We stopped by for Happy Hour and grabbed some of their excellent deals. Calamari was yummy and came with delicious marinara dipping sauce(as well as fried broccoli and cauliflower). I got a $ 2 Mimosa and my husband got fried and grilled fish tacos, which he really enjoyed. He absolutely loved the Falafel in pita with tahini dressing. I got the Artichoker and it was good — flavorful and generous sized portion. I was craving a turkey sandwich and was a little disappointed a diner didn’t have one, but this was a nice alternative. Walnut Baklava was delicious and freshly made! The staff was friendly and service was quick.

I try to not write 1-Star reviews for anything less than truly horrendous restaurants and I typically do my best to make light of how truly awful an experience I had by injecting some humor into my review. But there are some restaurants that fall so far below even the most meager of expectations that they deserve the reviews they get. Enter Roxy Restaurant into our lives. My love and I were walking with our son along the 10, trying to decide in which restaurant to have dinner. She waved aside a number of bars and grills, Vietnamese, a Lobster Roll dive, and two Thai places before we saw the Happy Hour menu outside of this Mediterranean Restaurant. Oh, and by the way, quick tip, when you’re looking for a good place for a 17 month old to eat, a restaurant that’s empty at dinner time is not the best of criteria to sway your options. We started with happy hour nachos, potato skins, and fried calamari. The calamari was bland, unseasoned, basically all that was there was a greasy and stale taste. Plus, I have no idea if this was how they were injecting a Mediterranean flair, but there are a couple of pieces of broccoli and one mushy piece of cauliflower fried in the mix. The broccoli was say enough to set aside with an arched eyebrow, but biting into the surprise cauliflower pushed this appetizer from mildly unappealing into truly disgusting territory. The nacho chips came straight out of a CostCo bag, coated with shredded cheese and nuked. Then they flopped on sour cream, fresh tomatoes, grilled onions, olives, and then put some impressively tasty guacamole on the side. Not terrible, but also not worth a supposedly discounted four bucks on the Happy Hour menu. Last up were the skins, identically shaped potato bowls, warmed up to mushy consistency, filled with melted cheese, and topped off with raw, purple onion. Just to make a note on the whole idea of potato skins, they are supposed to be cooked to the point of starting to dry to give them good bite with an almost crunchy skin; they shouldn’t be mashed potato-esque. Second, they should be salty from either … well, salt, or, better yet, bacon. These were as bland and unseasoned as the calamari. All that was there was another spoonful of sour cream that only served to cool the hot from the skins. Another disappointing and overpriced appetizer. Last, we split the chicken taco plate which consisted of two tacos, beans and rice. The rice was brown, a little dry, but a good natural flavor that you quickly got bored with. The beans were truly nasty, an oddly sweet tasting slurry that, for some heinous reason, had celery boiled into it for a wicked consistency and a horrid taste that slapped you with each bite with just how wrong it was. There are plenty of ways to make a healthier side of beans and this is four different ways NOT to; I eat a lot of beans and quite a bit of celery, and the two shouldn’t even be near each other in the grocery store, let alone in one dish. Holy crap. The tacos themselves had chicken that may or may not have been freshly cooked, it was a bit dry as well, and too neatly chopped to really feel like it didn’t come out of a bag. But mixed on top were tomatoes, cucumber, and pickled onions. I’m all for fusion style cooking, Korean /Mexican is a sight to behold and something I will drive to San Diego to find a old truck selling. This, however … I’m not sure if they are just uninspired or were finding people passing by not really wanting Mediterranean, so they decided to just make everything they could and put olives and pickled onions on it … but, it doesn’t work. So, $ 30 for 3 happy hour appetizers and a split entrée. Overpriced, disgusting food, and décor that needs to be updated and trimmed down to one, maybe two, themes. As it stands, I think people probably come here more out of habit instead of the food. Or maybe its just tourists that are walking along the 101 and will never come back anyway. Whichever is true, people should stay away, there are plenty of other choices(that we should have taken) along downtown. Just because this place has been here for 40 years, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be torn down for better fare.
