I had the Boss sandwich it was great the pastrami and corned beef was sliced thinly(just the way I like it) and I understand how they charge $ 11 for it… great selection of chips and retro sodas. Also the service was very nice

To the good people in North County — we have lost one of the best eateries in North County with the closing of NOSH in Encinitas! It is a shame that we support chain restaurants like Olive Garden and Burger King and McDonald’s versus the outstanding private eateries like NOSH! Shame on us!

I am constantly complaining that North County doesn’t have nearly as many great deli’s as I’d like it to and when you Unilocal sandwich places, not all that many come up. Well, FINALLY this came on my radar and we gave it a whirl. I love sandwich places like this. It’s what I imagine NY jewish delis to be like… Where you can get weird cuts of meat, like tongue, in a sandwich. Not that I ever have, but I do like to imagine it. It somehow ups the sandwich authenticity and credibility. Well, we went and I got a roast BEAST of a sandwich(roast beef)… it was GINORMOUS. Once I got the full sandwich, I realized why she asked me if I wanted a ½. My hubs ordered«The Boss». His was better, but both were awesome. It’s a random, unassuming location in the Michael’s/Big Lots parking lot, which I think hurts their business, but it’s a good sandwich, so we should help get the word out!!!

This is a well-built sandwich. I love how the meat is carved right there with your order, that is class. This is a nice – clean deli, the food was all very good. I got a tuna panini and it was the bomb-dot-com. The owner was at the counter ringing up orders and sending out his food, the speed and intensity of this guy is hard to ignore. He was very affable and was happy and smiling. You can tell he really likes his business, and puts a lot of pride into it. Lastly, they have the old school Dublin Dr. Peppers in the 8oz glass bottles here, save one for me will ya…

The cheerful décor lets you know that this place strives to be viewed as a New York deli. You’d think that with a line-up area to wait for your order, there’d be some way to have the menu in advance, on a sign board or something, but instead, you just need to grab a print menu. I ordered a half-size turkey pastrami sandwich on rye and a bag of chips. My sandwich was made fairly quickly, and I picked it up from the counter. It was stacked high with meat, & had the veggies i requested. I felt like i needed to unhinge my jaw in order to fit this monster in my sandwich hole. I’ve never had turkey pastrami before — it tasted good, though i’m not sure it tasted like pastrami(then again, i don’t think i’ve had real pastrami for at least 3 years, since i cut beef out of my regular diet). The cole slaw was pretty awesome. I like a good cole slaw, and this was delicious. Pickle was standard. Zapp’s potato chips are nice — i got some voodoo flavor, and while i can’t tell you what it tasted like, i wanted to keep eating them. and my tongue felt zingly afterward. So many of the other reviews point out that this place is pricier than your usual sandwich shop. And it is. I got a half sandwich,(4 oz of meat), and it was more than a footlong at subway, or a regular at quizno’s(which i think this space used to be), but that half-sandwich was stacked pretty high with meat. Their daily lunch special(half sandwich, soup, drink, chips or side, slaw, pickle) is $ 12, which is pretty high for a lunch special in these parts — most places around here you can get out for less than $ 10. But it was good. Just don’t expect chain sandwich shop prices — but they got way more kinds of deli meats, presumably sliced to order. yum!

I’ve been to Nosh for both breakfast and lunch multiple times. Hands down one of my favorite new places in Encinitas. For breakfast I’ve had the challah Monte Cristo and the Eggs Benedict. Both amazing. For lunch/dinner I’ve had their corned beef and pastrami sandwiches — both amazing quality meat and huge portions on rye bread that is ridiculously fresh. My brother gave high marks to the chicken salad sandwich. The special gives you soup, half a sandwich, coleslaw, side dish and drink for a great price and it’s more than enough for one person. The staff are very helpful and if you have any questions about the menu items they’ll let you try a bite before you order. The décor is fun and the soda selection is impressive! I’ve brought all of my family members and we will definitely keep coming back!

As a New Yorker I was thrilled to find Nosh… the matzo ball soup was great, and they toasted our bagel to perfection. and to top it all off, the service was fabulous and they were even happy to split our soup & sandwich. 5 stars for Nosh!

I really like a good deli — there aren’t that many here in San Diego. I think Milton’s is ok, but not great, otherwise, I would be there all the time, so I was excited when this place opened. This place is ok, not great, not terrible. I went when I was sick to get the chicken noodle soup and a turkey pastrami sandwich. I also got a grilled cheese for a friend. I have to say that the chicken soup flavor was fine, but nothing to write home about. I can definitely make a better chicken soup. The turkey pastrami was, eh… again, not that great. Maybe I should have gotten real pastrami? I do have to say that I really, really loved their coleslaw. When you get the sandwich to go, you get this little container of it. However, if you eat in, you get more coleslaw. Next time, i just want to get a large vat of that coleslaw. When I go back, I will probably try one of their more traditional sandwiches, to see how I feel, but I’m in no rush at the moment.

After experiencing Nosh I could never go back to Einstein Bros! I was curious about this place ever since they opened. I shop across the way at Spin Again almost weekly and decided to pop in and try a Lox & Bagel. At first I thought the price seemed a bit high but I followed through and ordered it anyway. This was WELLWORTHTHEPRICE! The quality was out of this world. Huge portion of very fresh Nova Scotia lox(not smoked salmon, we’re talking the real deal here!). The tastiest, highest quality Lox & Bagel I have had in my life. Even the sesame seeds on my bagel tasted delicious(ate every last seed on my plate!) Never been to a NY deli but I can only hope it would be as good as Nosh. Oh, and the whole thing was so huge that I shared it with my 2 kids! I will be back … frequently!!!

Unilocalers, what’s the deal with the mixed reviews for Nosh? I don’t know about the rest of y’alls, but my lunch today was great. I started with a cup of matzoh ball soup, which I found flavorful and balanced. The matzoh ball itself was Goldilocks — not too dense, not too light, just like my mom makes. The roast beef half sandwich was exceptional too. The meat was perfectly cooked, well seasoned and stacked nice and high, dressed up with my lettuce, tomato, mayo and swiss. I’m a huge fan of cole slaw, and while I’d have enjoyed some horseradish to add some kick, I thought the Nosh cole slaw was very good. No complaints. The only less than stellar bite at lunch was when my co-worker offered a taste of her lonely-looking potato salad. Too sweet — something was off. But since I didn’t order it, I won’t let it impact my review too much. My real problem with lunch at Nosh was the price. A cup of soup and half-sandwich combo, even with a drink, shouldn’t be $ 12+. Price needs to come down. I realize the owners aren’t trying to compete with Subway, but at a minimum at the premium price point I shouldn’t have to pick up from the counter and bus my own dishes. One more comment. I’m guessing the guy in the whites in charge at the register AND the counter had to be the owner. That dude cared a lot — Love that!

The BF had to go to Michael’s Craft store. Yeah, you read that right… his intentions were clearly Christmas related and I was banned from accompanying him. Was I sad to be so shunned? Um no, because Nosh Delicatessen is in the same parking lot! Rumors of their Roast Beef piled high had reached my ears recently, so I cheerfully gave him my 20% off craft supplies coupon and skipped over to have a meat fest all alone. The décor is clean and slick. I wish there was a menu posted somewhere though? They have a printed copy near the register so just say your excuse me, pardon me’s and snag one. So many options! I settled on the Roast Beef with everything on it and got the BF the The Boss(Corned beef, pastrami, Swiss cheese, and Russian dressing.) My order took quite awhile to prepare, I think I came in right when a few people were on break(employees eating what looked like amazeball soup at a table in the corner) and I wasn’t in a hurry so no biggie I sat with my bag of sammies piled high and thought I’d wait for my man before chowing down… but he was tasking forever so I just couldn’t stop myself. Now, truth be told, true deli sandwiches can be tough to fit in your mouth. Just work at it. I ain’t no quitter and polished off my selection like a pro. The BF expressed his full sammich appreciation as well. It was delicious, fresh, and exactly what I wanted it to be. They have a fun selection of sodas and beverages too. Get chips, soup, or potato salad with your meal… oh and wait a tic, the BREAKFAST options look incredible! I’ll be stopping in here more often. Can’t wait to try everything on the menu. WIN.

As a native New Yorker, this spot was home away from home on my extended visit to Encinitas. Everything was spot on: meats were quality, portions were huge, pricing was more than fair. I would definitely recommend the ruben. So good, I’ve actually had dreams about it(that’s a tell-tale sign they’re doing something VERY right at Nosh.) Also would suggest trying the chicken soup: massive and extremely tasty. Atmosphere was great… staff was very pleasant and accommodating. I really can’t wait to go back!!!

Could be better! The décor and look of the restaurant is pretty stylish, so it’s cool to see the place has personality. They definitely put thought and money into how it looks. I would come back and recommend this place if the staff were more friendly and welcoming. It would be great if they greeted every customer when they walked in and said bye and thank you or have a great day when customers leave. During my visit, the girls behind the counter weren’t smiling and looked like they would rather be doing something else than working here. When one of the girls brought the food to my table, she didn’t smile and was mute. How about a cheerful«here you go!» or «enjoy your meal»? She put the food down, left to go get silverware, brought it back to my table and when I said thank you she didn’t say anything. My chicken salad sandwich(half size) was good and the perfect lunch portion for me! The sandwiches are on the pricey side but I can see they’re trying to offer premium quality sandwiches that are a fancier alternative to Subway. However, given the standoffish(distant and unfriendly) service, I will not be back and won’t be recommending this place.

Good stuff… I enjoyed my chefs salad with oil and vinegar, as none of their dressings are gluten free. Very large salad, heavy on the cheese and meats, could easily feed two. Sis-in-law enjoyed most of the lunch special including the split pea soup and the corned beef sandwich. Not so good… The chef who I spoke with about the dressings and salad was happy to provide oil and vinegar for me, but was adamant that he made no guaranty that my meal would be safe to eat. They were out of Mac and cheese(at lunch) which was one of my sis-in-law’s preferred sides. They forgot to bring my oil and vinegar with my salad and failed to include a side of sauerkraut with my sis-in-law’s order. We had to go to the counter to request the omitted items we ordered. Sis-in-law thought the potato salad and coleslaw were bland and not that good. She did not eat them or even take them home. Maybe it is just her, since people were coming in and ordering these items in larger quantities when we were there.

Thank you Nosh D for responding. Nice to hear my 13 buck salami sandwich is carved from brisket. Seriously, you read my review? Salami was ok as I said but you could have imported that from the finest charcuterie and would not have paid more than 3 bucks for the 3 – 4 oz that were on my sandwich. Hey, I buy the good stuff all the time and it’s 16.00 per lb. at Dragers! You’re too pricey for my taste but I do wish you well. If it does not go as you hope, you seriously could make it up in volume with more competitive(affordable) prices.

Encinitas needs a good Jewish deli. This is average. We ordered take out. Here is the skinny: 1. Ordered the Mona Lisa Salad which has the«signature blue cheese & red chili dressing.» When we picked it up, was told they didn’t have the speciality dressing, but nevertheless, they wouldn’t take it off the order. Strike 1. 2. Ordered the Empire State — it came plain — with only meat and cheese. Strike 2. 3. Ordered the Chicken Noodle Soup. It seems like Lipton soup(freeze dried noodles) with chicken added. Strike 3. The bread was average, the sandwich size was not«Jewish deli» sized and the service was obviously off. I will probably give it a second try(I so desperately want this place to be good) but, right now, this is no Milton’s or Elijahs.

This is not an authentic NY deli — by a mile. Grew up on this food. Had a ½ turkey pastrami and ½ matzoh ball soup. The ok: — the coleslaw — pickle, which was a standard quartered dill from a jar. Not while pickles. — turkey pastrami. Ok but small portion compared to other kosher style delis. The bad: — Worst matzoh balls I’ve ever had. These must’ve been some processed/pre-packages job. Smooth shape and absolutely tasteless. Texture was unlike anything I had ever tasted I just shook my head in disappointment. To make matters worse they wanted to charge me an extra $ 1.50 for matzo ball soup when it wasn’t even on the menu. I mentioned this to the cashier and got the charge waived. — everything is served in plastic containers. Not only environmentally problematic but from an aesthetic perspective, really? A friend got the matzoh brie, which they said was horrible. I didn’t see a single piece of matzoh. They use matzoh meal to form cubes. Oy! Left this place $ 37 poorer utterly disappointed.

If you want to make a good, authentic NY style sandwich, you need to use the same ingredients. I ordered a roast beef on rye. I expected roast beef that was somewhat rare … what I got was overdone grey looking meat that was too salty. NY sandwiches use real, hard crust rye bread with seeds … what I got was a rye swirl that fell apart at the swirl. you should also have real deli mustard … they had this sweet mustard and regular yellow. the pickles were industrial type like Clausens. FAIL ! Suggestions … use a good quality meat … Deitz and Watson or Boars Head … use quality breads … you are not going to have a good product with substandard ingredients. Call people by name to get ther food, not by the menu item … Get rid of the plastic clam shells for eat in. use a quality paper plate like Chinette I wish them well — I know how difficult the business is … they really were trying … I’ll go back next month … I would love to write a good review … this area really needs a good deli … a real void since Hershel’s disappeared.

I guess my expectations are high when it comes to delis. I grew up eating deli /kosher style food. Nosh has some kinks they need to work out before I will return. The sandwich was not piled high and the matzo ball soup was decent but loaded with salt. I’m a bit of a matzo soup snob as I make mine myself. Not earth friendly — All their food is served on single use unsustainable ware. Grrrr. Service — yes it is a seat yourself restaurant but come on. The staff was not busy enough to call me up to the counter 5 feet away to pick up my piled low sandwich and half filled coleslaw salad just after I picked up my salty soup served in a plastic container.
