Went here last weekend for the NCAA tournament with a few buddies. First off, if you don’t enjoy the«dive bar» atmosphere this is not a place for you. That said, if you love dives you have to come check out Phil’s! Not only does this place have great, cold beer, it’s cheap too — awesome drink and food specials! Also the staff is really friendly and they have an awesome selection of music on the jukebox. We were able to meet the owner Phil and he was a really great guy. In fact one of our buddies drove us all over there and had been drinking, and Phil was extremely cool about leaving the car there over night. Will definitely be popping in this great local joint again soon! Pros: Great specials, friendly staff, good music Cons: Needs more/larger televisions

Kobe burger is very good, and a thick burger! First time I ever saw third shift brewing Amber lager and it’s good, even though it’s owned by Miller Coors! Owner told me it started off as a craft brewery, until they sold it for $ 40 million! The bar sells for $ 3 a pint. Play your own music, fun owner that’s been doing it for 27 years! Very diverse crowd, so I don’t what people are talking about racism on their reviews! I’ll be back when I’m in the area!

This place has a bad rap. And I understand why. But they got a good jukebox and a pingpong table. Its not the worst place I’ve ever been.

This bar is God awful. If you love bigotry and racist jokes, and no staff to intervene, this is joint for you. Food is terrible, drink specials aren’t good. Kegs aren’t fresh. I would give them –5 stars if I could. Nobody is ever here, except for the occasional misogynist pig.

This bar is a dive and I love it. Nothing really special here and the bar next door is better looking as my next post wil explain. This one has cheap beer, pool table, and big windows to look at traffic on harlem Avenue.

Go for the cheap beer stay for the subtle racism.

I went into Phils Sports Bar on Thursday night to have a cocktail or two. Kathleen was bartending and provided excellent service. The bar was clean and had bar seating along with tables and stools. The lighting was medium with many beer signs on the wall. At the bar they put out free pop-corn which is an excellent customer service move. Behind the bar they had a Holiday food collection box for the needy, another outstanding move. The establishment has four TVs, a ping-pong table, a bowling machine, a dart machine, a pool table, an ATM and a TouchTunes digital juke box. Kathleen is an oustanding bartender with many years experience in the bar business. She provides great service along with good conversation. Many working class and locals drink at this establisment. Drinks are very reasonable too. For a place to drink and mix it up I say give it a try, especially when Kathleen is bartending(: Down the hatch!!!

Italian Beef Crawl Stop #4: Starting to get slowed down by the volume of beefs and beers, this short trip to the next bar was more than welcome. As we entered there were about two guys in there having an afternoon beer. My friend rolls up and orders a long line of glasses and pitcher after pitcher after pitcher. I commented to him, «This looks like a scene out of a Western flick where the banditos rob the money train and then go in all out buying whiskey!» Some folks picked up the ping pong paddles and started to play a game, still a few more popped in some quarters for Silver Strike Bowling and some others played some pool. I contented myself walking around and chugging out of the small glasses. The outdoors area was sweet with tables and lots of room out in the sun. We did run into some west siders who all had an opinion of where to get good beefs, but Johnnie’s would be the next leg of the beef crawl. We probably ended staying here the longest and spent the most money than any other of the bars. We eventually ended up staying at Phil’s and then eating Johnnie’s at Phil’s. The tables were big enough, so there was room for everyone to eat and keep drinking. All in all a decent bar with lots of sports banners, neon lights and cheap beer. A bit far out of my way and nothing compelling to bring me back, but definitely a spot worth checking out if you’re in the neighborhood.
