This is me and my family’s favorite restaurant to go to. We always go on Fridays if we can because the fish here is the best we have ever had. They ask if you need a menu because most people are regulars and know what they want. As for the decorations– they are awesome! It makes you feel like you are at home and comfortable. I would definitely recommend going to this place because we love it and so do the people we can bring love it.

Going down College Avenue you stumble upon this big, run down brown house across the street from Pudgies Pizza. This is called The Shingle. I know the restaurant is probably named after the big wooden shingles that cover the sides and roof of the house but all I can think of is the illness«shingles» which made me a little hesitant to even try this place. My Coworker advises me that this place has excellent food and that she would often come here with her old coworkers for lunch. Upon her feedback, Mr. P and I tried this establishment for dinner last week. The night we went it was fish night. The place was packed and it took about 10 minutes for us to get a seat which I did not think was bad at all since there were so many people there and it was a Friday night. This place is a fire hazard waiting to happen. I cannot believe the stuff so many tables and chairs in such a small area PLUS there is a bar and bar stools as well! I felt very cramped and claustrophobic. There is so much CRAP on the walls! I get it… they are trying to make a statement that we are serving home style cooking and want to set a country style décor but this place goes way overboard. The waitress came and asked us if we needed a menu… um yes please… duh. The menu was very limited beyond the fish: cheeseburger, hotdogs, pulled meat barbque sandwiches, grilled cheese etc. I attempted to order a cheeseburger but I was advised that the restaurant was out of ground beef. What? How can you run a homestyle cooking restaurant and be out of ground beef? Anyway, I ordered a pulled pork barbque sandwich. It came out on a paper plate along with my can of pepsi and a straw. I asked for a cup and ice for my soda. My waitress returned with my cup of ice and that was the last time we seen our waitress at our table. I was advised that the cook makes the barbque from a specialty«secret» recipe made of ketchup and relish. I have to admit it wasn’t bad. Not excellent but not bad as well. The best thing about this place is the price! Less than fifteen bucks for the whole meal for both me and Mr. P combined(he had two sodas, a sandwich and a hotdog with fries… he can eat!) Anyhow. I wasn’t too impressed with this place. It was definitely country style… down to earth«feel good» food. I do believe that I could stay at home… buy 15 bucks worth of groceries and make the same homestyle cooking at home next time.
