Its my go to spot for Colombian bake goods. Its a small place yet comfortable. Friendly service, I feel welcomed everytime I come by. The bunuelos and pandebonos are delicious, warm and fresh. The empanadas are packed with flavors. Las arepas de choclo are just as good. UPDATE!!! BESTBUNUELOSINTHEAREA. crispy exterior and soft spongey inside.

We were going to wait for the bus on a Saturday when Queens buses are typically slow. As we rounded the corner, what does sis do? She runs into this bakery even when the bus is coming because she said the guava filled bread was that good. Annoyed at the prospect of another 20 minute wait, I bounded into this tiny bakery to follow. Teeny, clean, with counters, filled with assorted breads, it was definitely one of those bakeries that will be startlingly impressive or be absolutely was impressive even if it sold only one item. the guava filled bread. I’ve had this at other Columbian/Mexian bakeries and the bread is often hard and stale and the filling sparse. Here the bread was soft and doughy and the filling generous. Wow… worth letting the Q49 go for sure. For those who take the Q49 right in front of La Montana, make this your stop before you get on the bus!

La Montana bakery is a true hole-in-the-wall that is situated on 90th Street right off Northern Boulevard. It is a one room wonder. There is a small counter and below and behind the glass, pastries are waiting to be eaten. I had the guava bread and I have to say I was very impressed by La Montana Bakery. It costs me only $ 1.00 and the bread tasted fresh and soft. On top was a sprinkling of sugar and they didn’t skimp on guava jelly. I thought it would only be on top of the bread and then a little underneath, but when I bit into it, I realized the jelly ran well inside and was a very generous amount. I wouldn’t have known there was such a delightful little bakery for the fact that it is right behind a bus depot. Thank goodness the bus didn’t come yet and it afforded me an opportunity to go inside and grab this wonderful guava bread. It was fresher and had more guava jelly than most other Latin bakeries that I have tried. At the time I spotted an older man and woman in the bakery. The woman gave me the bread and perhaps the man is the baker, but don’t miss out. If you have the opportunity, stop by and give it a try. I will definitely be coming back here for more goodies.
