I ran into the Cupcakes for Courage food truck outside the Harold Washington library and was immediately intrigued by their name. I’m usually not one to splurge on gourmet cupcakes, but while in the library I googled the company. 10% of their profits go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Ride Janie Ride foundation, which supports Chicago area residents facing financial hardship from cancer treatment. I was immediately hooked. When I came out and saw the truck still standing there, I took it as a sign that I needed to buy a $ 4 cupcake. Not only did I support a good cause, but my double chocolate cupcake was life altering! So moist and delicious. I’m planning to buy more cupcakes for my birthday!

By far the best cupcakes we could find for our wedding in Chicago. Strongly recommend the Key Lime, Peanut Butter, Reese’s Pieces, and German Chocolate. They did a wonderful tasting with us, which was totally worth the drive out to the suburbs. The flavors at most other cupcake places always sounded better than they were, but Cupcakes for Courage blew us away with both flavor and appearance. Only removing 1 star because their responsiveness was not the best.

Cupcakes themselves are good — but why the heck do they mound so much frosting on them? It’s a cupcake, not a fist of frosting with a little bit of cake! Some of their other pastries and muffins are good but unfortunately by the time I get there in the afternoon after work most of their supply is gone, so I often just grab something from Au Bön Pain at the train station in Chicago and bring it back with me because I can’t depend on C4C’s supply

I have had many good cupcakes in the past from Cupcakes for Courage. They make a pretty decent gluten-free cupcake. On another day, they would be deserving of a 4 or 5-star rating. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was not so pleasant. I had a piece of what appears to be a pistachio shell that was in the cupcake. I don’t know if it was in the frosting or baked into the cake since I eat all cupcakes as they were intended to be eaten — both the cake and frosting are consumed at the same time. And, unfortunately, the cupcake itself tasted nothing like the flavor that was advertised.

Phenomenol GF cupcakes. I stop at their food truck on Wednesdays in the loop and I would rank there gluten free cupcakes as the best in the city and I have tried pretty much tried everyone’s. So moist, fluffy, and unlike many other gf cupcakes you can barely tell they’re not made with regular flour. Also the ratio of cake to frosting is very on par(I dislike a mound of frosting with a small cake part) Truly amazing so glad I decided to try them out because now I am addicted to this weekly treat!

This was literally the best cupcake I have ever eaten. Seriously! I ordered a pink velvet and it was moist, the icing was light and fluffy and it was a perfect size. I can’t believe how many times I have passed their food truck and never stopped by. Please try it, I promise you won’t regret it. Delicious!

The cupcakes and other baked goods are really yummy. They have a menu of real food I haven’t tried yet but looks really interesting. I intend to eat there someday. They have moist cupcakes with yummy frosting.(That means a lot because I don’t usually care for frosting) the only reason I wouldn’t give it 5 stars is the staff in the store front aren’t overly friendly or helpful.

Love the cupcakes and other breakfast items. Very cute bakery/café Very busy on the weekends so be prepared to not get a seat, but you may luck out. Very popular with the young parents and their kids so most table seem to be taken up by families. There are a few tables outside also.

My amazing man picked up some cupcakes from here on his way home from work to continue to feed my ridiculous sweet tooth. He ended up getting a black and white(my favorite!), a chocolate peanut butter cup, a white chocolate raspberry, and a spicy sriracha turtle. All of the cupcakes were amazing EXCEPT the spicy sriracha turtle. I LOVE me some sriracha but ohlord the smokiness of the mesquite chocolate cake and the smoked caramel killed me. It reminded me of this terrible smoky whiskey I tried once and both(the bite of cupcake and the whiskey) barely got swallowed. Also, in both cases, my mouth tasted like a fireplace for days. Uggggggggh. Anyway, besides the smoky cupcake, all the others were delicious. I definitely prefer the vanilla buttercream to the whipped meringue buttercream but that is just a matter of taste. I love a thick buttercream that is super sweet and CfC definitely hits the mark on this. And the best part about these cupcakes is that the cake part is delicious on all of them as well. Every cupcake we tried was super not dry(sorry, I don’t use the m word). Awesome.

I had giving up trying cup cakes because of the high prices on each of them and to be disappointed how dry and horrible they taste. Fear no more Courage cupcakes are so delicious moist and reasonably priced. Plus some profits go to the cure for cancer. I was so happy I found the place open. They changed the hours so we barely made it today so it was well worth my trip, I tried four different flavors and I truly was happy with all of them. This is the very first time I had a red velvet that was so moist and the cream so soft and smooth is just melted in my mouth Yum. I had the maple bacon I removed the bacon but the maple flavor was so delicious. I also tried the chocolate banana cup cake it had a very delicious banana filling and the light chocolate cram top with dark drizzle of dark chocolate was like I was in heaven. They also honor the Unilocal special which is sweet because the proceeds go to the cure for cancer. I will definitely go back again. Oh yeah I forgot to mention they have food trucks in case you are in down town

I finally saw the truck after years of hearing about it. I bought a key lime cupcake. Comparable in size and price, it was a tasty cupcake for a great cause!

We had their mobile truck come to our office. Good variety of cupcakes. Especially enjoyed the Elvis with bacon, banana cream, and peanut butter. All fresh and 10% of their proceeds goes to a great cause!

I’m a big fan of cupcakes, I mean… who isn’t?! I’ve seen this truck downtown many times, but never made the effort to stop by. I participated in the Foodie 5K this past weekend in Wheaton and they gave us a $ 2 voucher to use at any food truck after the race. Go big, or go home… burn some calories and indulge in a cupcake, right?! The cupcake line was probably the longest of all the other food trucks there. I stood in line and changed my mind at least 5 times about what cupcake I wanted… of course, last minute, I decided on raspberry & lemon. I’m sure any of the choices would have been fine. These cupcakes are reasonable in price, decent size and the taste is great! They are a good dense cake with not overly sweet frosting — just perfect!!! In addition, there was filling on the inside, so that was a nice added bonus. This was one of two gluten free options — not that it matters to me, but for those who are gluten free, they have options too! I got a punch card so I will make a stop next time I see the green«Cupcakes for Courage» truck!!!

I dunno. So weird. We got the Unilocal deal, which was $ 10 worth for $ 5. A great deal. We ordered the pistachio cupcake, the vanilla, and the key lime. We ate the key lime at the restaurant and it was fantastic. The cupcake itself was moist and full of flavor. The frosting was perfectly whipped and soft. We were excited to eat the other two later(4 hours later because well, cupcakes). And when we did, we had the exact opposite reaction. Both the pistachio and the vanilla were moist, the texture was great. But the flavor was just.off. It tasted so weird. The pistachio didn’t taste like pistachio at all. It tasted like nothing. The vanilla almost tasted like coffee, but not really. You know that taste you get when you eat something with phenylketonurics? Its kinda like that but amplified. Both cupcakes were not appetizing at all. So, eat in the restaurant? Hell if I know

I agree with the other reviews. For the price I paid I expect good cupcakes. They were dry(or just old). Disappointed

OMG. I had a reese pieces cupcake this morning and it was the best thing I’ve ever eaten. There was even little reeses pieces in the cake mix! Amazing! I didn’t go to the actual shop, I visited their food truck that was parked outside my work. I can’t wait to try the rest!

I’m finally starting to repeat some of my favorite flavors… and some just aren’t the same as I remembered they were the first go around. Mama Java. Oh mama, what amazing frosting you have inside and out! I’d describe it as a super whipped, moussed out, chocolate amazing surprise inside topped with a bright-eyed jolt of mochamazing buttercream. I love that chocolate covered espresso bean on top. Pretty safe to say there’s caffeine in this one, i.e. don’t eat it at 6p.m. That said, I suppose this means I COULD have it for breakfast in place of my double espresso venti nonfat organic chocolate brownie frappuccino extra hot with whipped cream, huh? Chocolate Graham Cracker. It’s smaller looking in a side by side comparison to the other cupcakes I purchased… mostly because the frosting doesn’t sit 2 inches high on this one. But it’s not small in flavor or richness. That fudgey ganache frosting is ridiculously good. The texture variety in this cupcake is pretty awesome too; smooth chocolate ganache frosting topped with grainy graham cracker crumbs and a moist chocolate cake. But hold the phone and call the FBI, mine was missing the whipped chocolate ganache filling! Sad, but true story. Sweet Potato Pie… it’s Gluten-Free! I didn’t know/remember it being like that before. I also don’t remember it being so incredibly moist, it was amazing! One bite and I had to switch to a plate and fork so I didn’t risk loosing this beautiful mouthful to the floor. The frosting was melt-in-my-mouth amazing. Light, airy, great balance of sweetness, simply amazing. If they can do gluten-free this good, I wonder if they could do a vegan cupcake? Lastly, my all time favorite, the one I have dreams about, the Key Lime Pie. I may have cried while I ate this one. Such an incredibly fresh and vibrant citrus cake topped with only the most amazing meringue like frosting. It’s SO light and delicious. The key lime curd filling was very scant in this one, I would have missed it altogether if I wasn’t looking for it. Still amazing. I honestly cannot say enough about the frosting, it’s like NOTHING I’ve ever had or will ever have anytime soon. C4C makes the best frosting EVER. The newbees, Chocolate Beer Bacon. Chocolate cake topped with a very interesting frosting. I would bet my breakfast that there’s some bacon fat in that buttercream. It definitely had a bacon-y aroma followed by a rich stout-y beer flavor. But the bacon doesn’t stop there, it’s drizzled with chocolate and topped with REAL chunks of bacon. You really gotta like bacon to like this one. I think bacon’s aw’ight but the bacon lingering in the frosting was an odd one for me, verrrry interrresting. PB&J! Nostalgic school lunch flashbacks… only sweeter. Another ultra-moist cake made with peanut butter and filled with jelly, topped with more peanut butter flavor in buttercream form and drizzled with raspberry sauce. It was aw’ight, I may have overloaded on peanuts as a kid and I’m not nearly as wow’d by the flavor as much. Warning: contains peanuts.

I swung by Cupcakes for Courage recently and was blown away by it. The business started as a bake sale to raise money for a family friend with cancer, eventually became a food truck(that still operates), and is now this bakery. The friend is now cancer-free(yay!) but a percentage of the profits goes to cancer research. Cool. After admiring the shop(loved the green walls and amount of seating) and chatting with the employee, I looked over some of the cupcake options and decided to try the Lemon Supreme Pie cupcake for $ 3.50. Not a bad price. I got the cupcake to go. The cupcake stayed with me in a box until I was finally able to devour it an hour later while standing outside in the rain. It. Was. Amazing. I melted inside. I can’t believe I waited an hour to eat it! Yet, this was the kind of cupcake I’d wait an hour to eat! Mmmmm. It’s not too often a cupcake satisfies me. Orgasmic cupcakes at a good price that supports a cause? This place makes me more than happy. (NOTE: I wasn’t sure which listing to write this review for so I wrote it for both of them.)
