We had a wonderful time at Gard, learning from Joe and while enjoying great wine with a great appetizer. Also a great atmosphere. Thanks!

Gard Vintners tasting room keeps some strange hours, but its a hidden gem. Gard Vinters chose to put its tasting room here in sleepy Ellensberg, rather than in downtown Walla Walla, where they’d be more on the well-visited wine path. They also have a tasting room in the warehouse district of Woodinville. Here in Ellensberg, if you happen to be passing through(on Highway 90) during their open hours(2 –8 pm on Saturdays) its worth a stop by for a visit to taste their wines alongside their knowledgeable tasting room staff. They have several award winning and Wine Spector 90 plus rated wines and the bearded gentleman pouring, Joe, is thoughtful and precise. It’s worth a stop if you catch them during their odd business hours. We nearly left after finding them closed at 1:30 pm, but so glad that we stuck around to try them out. We were the only guests tasting in this large, cavernous, exposed-brick Edwardian flat with its dark wood cocktail tables and many leather couches. We seem to pass through Ellensberg, WA. on our frequent road trips, and we finally had enough time on our travel schedule to spend a couple of hours in this beautiful old town. From the freeway, Ellensberg always looks like a barren, slightly industrial dustbowl, but come and view Ellensberg from it’s beautiful tree-lined historic district, and it feels a lot more like a movie set, charming and trapped in time. A place that you may want to stay a while.

Love this little gem! I like fruit-forward reds and crisp whites while my husband likes full-bodied reds and dry whites, yet we can both find something we like here(and even sometimes agree upon) due to their extensive wine list. It is a very cute tasting room and great location to sip wine, relax and people-watch if you’re in town for an event on the weekends. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and the wine club membership is VERY reasonable and attractive.

You say you’re passing through Ellensburg? You really must stop at Gard Vintners then! What a gorgeous tasting room. I was there on a Friday afternoon and was the only patron. I tasted 6 different wines explained by the very professional and knowledgeable Joe. All were enjoyable but I ended up taking home two of the pinot grigios and a bottle of the rose. The funny thing is that I am not an avid consumer of pinot grigio or rose but these were so tasty I couldn’t resist. I look forward to my next foray over the mountains and I will make sure to stop in again.

A beautiful tasting room and comfortable place to enjoy a glass of wine and some appetizers. I was not familiar with Gard Wines, but after tasting their offerings gained an appreciation and a half case of wine to add to my cellar. They have an impressive number of wines in production. The tasting room manager, Joe France is a veteran in the wine industry and very knowledgeable about WA State wines. He expertly guided our tasting and explained the nuances of the different varietals and vintages. A wine neophyte and the connoisseur would both enjoy a tasting secession with Joe. Ellensburg now has several wine stops making it a nice place to visit on your Eastern Washington Wine tour.
