Damon Point has replaced the North jetty as our favorite beach in Ocean Shores. The gravel beach is full of shells and agates to pick. On a sunny day, you have the Olympic Mtns to the north east, the mouth of Grays Harbor and the Pacific to the west and Mt Rainier to the east. The beach is quite steep on the west side of the point. That makes for some great beach break surf, unlike the Ocean Shores beach with waves ad nasium. This is also a prime surf fishing beach, as a result. On the east side of the point, which is home to a vacated road, trees have grown making a nice foreground to bay views. Because of the point’s steepness down the middle, it is easy to get to a lee side on the point and picnic in warmth without also getting sandblasted. Note: unlike the beach that faces Ocean Shores, this is a walking only beach(about 2 miles long) with plenty of places to explore along that whole length. But be prepared to pack your beach stuff in and out. There are no honey buckets out on the point. Access to the beach is by driving down to the«marina» from the town’s round about and taking a right at the marina. 3 photos added to illustrate.

Heaven on Earth. This is seriously the most peaceful place I have ever been in my life, and I was with a 4 year-old, which says a lot. On a randomly GORGEOUS day in April, the sun shone down upon us all day long out here in the middle of nowhere. Anyone who has ever been here knows that it is miles of shore and driftwood and shells. I saw 3 people the entire 4 hours I was out there. Talk about getting in touch with nature… we had the run of the place… and really… where in Seattle is that true. Sadly, the shipwreck has been removed :(

Birding here can be hit or miss. But whenever I am in Ocean Shores I check out Samon Point State Park. I also suggest you check out the jetty if you want some good ocean views and more great ocean birds.

So Ocean Shores can be dirty, littered and a bit tawdry, but if you want to escape all that and walk on a pristine Northwest beach, then visit Damon Point and walk all the way out to the point and look at the sea lions and birds and the ocean and Grays Harbor and the fishing boats and feel at peace. Not to be missed is an old partially buried shipwreck. Very cool. Go early, there’s not much parking at the entrance to the park.
