If you happen to be on Rt 20 and headed toward Galena, you’ll find yourself passing through a quaint little town called Elizabeth. Most people probably admire it through their car’s windows, but if you’re not in a hurry, do yourself a favor by pulling over and wander around a bit. That’s what I did recently and discovered this gem of a Resale Shop called Common Cents. Now I’m not really much of an aficionado of antiques, but the sheer variety of items displayed in their window caught my eye and pulled me inside. There, I met a very friendly woman behind the counter who greeted me with a smile and an offer to assist me find anything if I was looking for something in particular. My advice? Take her up on it if you’re looking for something specific because you’ll spend hours going through the sea of merchandise displayed on the floor(walls, too). There’s a TON of stuff in here, and the scale of interesting things ranges from beautiful antique furniture(swelling with character you simply cannot find in a furniture chain store) to mounted deer heads to toys to hardware to salt & pepper shakers… well, you get the idea. There’s a lot here. So antique fan or not, I think you’ll enjoy gazing at all the old stuff in here that might bring back the past and leave you wishing it never left! And lucky for you, it doesn’t have to. They deliver!
