My family and I finally visited. We loved a lot of the items we saw, and even planned to Christmas shop here. When we got our new map home, we hung it right away– there was a foul smell. I thought we could air it out overnight. The next morning, all I could smell in my house, was a musty moldy water damaged stench. I took the map back, and was told the vendor would have to be contacted. I went over to the vendors stand to look at more items while I waited. I picked up a cool old oil can, and while I inspected for holes,(I planned to use as a vase) I found a bunch of dead bugs inside. I also found a few items around the shops that still had Village Discount wax pencil pricing left on the items. It was a little insulting. Anyhow… here I am over a week later with no map, no call back, no store credit. I won’t be going back, and have already steered others from visiting. Too many vendors that no-one has to take responsibility.

If you’re looking for odds and ends or really really interesting things just to put around the house for decoration this place is a definite must visit. They have a lot of really cool things there jewelry, decoration, some toys the works! They have a custom jeweler there who does a lot of really handiwork only thing is I don’t believe they really are straightforward with the price of metals. They make a beautiful molds of wax for your custom jewelry needs. It’s just a pretty good spot!

I tried out these shops on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised. The title of the shops is somewhat misleading because it is all one building and sectioned off for various consignment vendors. There was a variety of merchandise available, new items, handcrafted things and small antiques. Prices were reasonable and several vendors were having a sale on the day I went. I purchased A beer stein from Germany, a vintage Bön Bön dish, a small cut glass bowl and an LP frame. As you are walking around, there are employees who will take your items to the front/cashier and hold them for you. My only complaint is that the frame I bought said it was for LP’s, but when I got it home, it was too big for an LP. It was on sale for 30% off but it was $ 7 wasted.

As previous reviewers stated, it’s set up with many booths by different vendors. There are many odds n’ ends to look at(antiques, vintage, and some current). The shops are clean, well organized The ladies working there were very friendly and helpful and I enjoyed my shopping experience. I purchased an item that appeared to be fine. The lady brought it up to the counter for me. I was going to check over the item again once I went up to the front, however when I walked up to the front counter, they had already wrapped up the item. When I got home I saw that the item was broken. I called in, they said typically they sell the items as «As is» however, they said I could return it. When I came back, they were apologetic and returned the item for me. I was so pleased with their customer service and willingness to return my item when typically all sales are final in places like these.

This place has been around FOREVER! I can remember coming here with my mom as a small child! We’ve moved away from the area, and I probably haven’t been here in like 27 years — but we happened to be in the area and stopped by: the place was just as I remembered! It’s setup as different little«booths» — each owned by a different person I believe — so you just kind of wander around from booth to booth. Each is a bit different, but kinda the same, if you know what I mean. It really depends on your style. Most of it is probably for the older generations, and a little bit country, but not totally. There’s some antiques, there’s lots of house decorations, scarves/jewelry, and candles /soaps. I didn’t buy a whole lot, but it’s certainly fun to stop in and look around. There’s an adorable little spot in the back to have some munchies and punch/coffee. If you’re in the hood, swing by and enjoy.

The golden chain is a great jewelry store. Great for tanzanite.

The wife and I stopped here(her idea) and found it to be an ok place to find some old things and other things not so old. Plenty of decorative things for the home. A few real antiques here and there. If you’re in the area stop by and check it out. You might find something you like. It is a collection of vendors under one roof.

Eh. The State Street Market was so full of promise, but not a lot of delivery once inside. Even though this is set up like a typical antique market, with vendors having their own little area to set up as they please, it all looks the same. It looks like all those gift shops your mom takes you to so she can buy a dried floral wreath and a jar candle that smells like apple pie. I’d say it is 60 – 40 of merchandise being new vs used(notice I didn’t say antique). Everything new is sort of frou-frou and old lady-ish. The used stuff, like jewelry and furniture, is frightfully overpriced(the new stuff might be too, but I wasn’t really looking at any of that). If this shop was in Galena, or some other little tourist town it would be great and would completely fit in. In the middle of the nowhere that is Elgin however, they might want to nix half the new stuff and lower their pricing and it might do better.

Perhaps this place doesn’t have the mix of merchandise that I look for in this type of market, but it’s very well-run. Clean, organized and filled with helpful, friendly people, State Street Market is a great spot for weekend rummaging. Recommended if you’re in the area.

One of my favorite places to rummage for odds and ends but also for collectibles, antiques, decorative items(new), etc. A collection of different booths selling all sorts of items, all reasonably priced and seasonal merchandise is reduced in price in a timely manner.
