Elgin Public Library

Elgin has a nice library on Main Street. It’s new with Internet-​connected computers, quiet workrooms and a good (albeit limited) selection of books. The downside is that much of the staff is rude. Example: I was packing up my laptop 10 minutes before closing time when a librarian told me ‘WE ARE CLOSED’ and stared at me like I was a felon.
5 minutes later as I was leaving the building a troglodyte mouth breather REALLY didn’t like me there and, in a loud (non-​library) voice, told me to ‘leave.’ Now I understand that these are lazy people looking to be in the recliners by 6pm (the posted closing time) but this was beyond normal civil behavior. Just change your closing time to 5:50pm and make it easy, lazypeople! Negative 2 stars for inhospitable staff.
