HS Fish and Chips

Very special place. The whole family works the business, and the level of attention to detail is unexpected for a casual spot such as this one. I plan to come again, and bring more mouths! I’m a medium eater, but got the single catch, with cod and shrimp and fries. Next time I’ll get double cod, and try the coleslaw.

Originally, I was looking for a different fish and chips place in the area, but they didn’t even open on regular days, so I needed PLAN B.
HS Fish and Chips to the rescue! Very easy to find, located in a huge strip mall with ample parking and lots of foot traffic. I walk inside and instantly greeted. I took my sweet time trying to decide what to get because there were SO MANY OPTIONS.
The variety of fish and different combo meals, I mean it’s legit fish and chips heaven. I finally settled on a 6 piece catfish (20) fish only meal and a side of fries. IT WAS LEGIT AF (I think my new thing is saying legit AF in all my 2016 reviews). It took about 15 – 20 mins for my to go order and it seemed delicious inside while I was waiting. The catfish was ACTUAL WHOLE ENTIRE FILLETS, mind blown. I wish I had known how BIG the portions were and I would of ordered something smaller thinking that it wasn’t enough food for two people. But, AHHHHH with excitement because quantity AND quality were packed into my meal. The catfish itself was seasoned so well and the breading was a thin layer thick enough to keep the fish from breaking apart when it’s fried, but it had flaky layers when you broke pieces off to eat. It was fantastic and deep fried to perfection.
You get your choice of sauce (hot sauce, tatar, ketchup, and some others that come with a certain meal). It cost extra for extra sauce of course. Fries were decent, but highlight was definitely my main order.
They also sell Loard’s ice cream with like 20+ flavors here! I was tempted while waiting for my food, but I held strong. There’s a couple of seats inside and it’s clean. They do take card and cash, so no worries. But the deals here are amazing! I’m just feeling so lazy or else I’d make another trip out to this part of town just for their amazing Fish and Chips.
On a side note, they make to mention with a sign that they are in no way related H. Salt Fish and Chips (so don’t get confused by Unilocal). This place is MVP and the service was awesome.

My husband and I come here at least once a week. Always order double catch with Tilapia and shrimp with side order of zucchini. My husband loves the Cod with cole slaw. We love eating here. We’ve brought friends and family here and they love it too.

I can’t give this location enough stars great portions the lady pretty much knew what I wanted to order before I even said it. You do have to wait a bit for your order as they cook it when you order it but it is so well worth the wait

I like this place because they do wild caught and farm raised fish fried in batter or corn meal and it’s delicious. I’ve been there about five times over the past three months and today will be six times. Takes a little long to process orders but everything is made to order but worth the wait. I am a true fish person

Very good fish and chips! I love the fact that they’ve got a lot of choices of fish — pollack, cod, tilapia and catfish. So many fish and chip places don’t even give you a choice so this is pretty awesome. Great batter, nice and light with that signature British yellow colour. Generous portions, too. The fish is ginormous! Well worth it if you’re in the area :)

This is the absolute best fish and chip place, IMHO. The proprietor is the sweetest lady who always remembers a face (and a favourite order!) and takes time out to ask how you have been. The tilapia fish and chip combo is just yummers! She offers a wide selection of Loard’s ice cream (we like mango) and many different fish and chip or seafood and varieties to choose from (among them my must-​have tilapia and scallops). To top it off, if you are a fan of ginger beer with your fish and chip craving, she stocks both Reed’s and Cock n’ Bull. A must if you are an ElSo local!

Wow! The price is so reasonable and the seafood is so fresh that I can’t stop treating myself here every time I want to celebrate a milestone. Thavisinh and her family are what make San Pablo such a unique place to dine. They’re literally a mom and pop shop and the quality just blows my mind. Try the fried oysters, pollack, cod, zucchini and mushroom. Will not disappoint!

I’m originally from England and this is the closest to British style fish and chips. The fish is exactly like home and is very good. Cooked to order and mmmmm so yummy. The chips are a little different but still tasty. All they need now to make it more authentic is curry sauce and mushy peas. Plus the staff is very friendly.

Fish and chips as good as you’re likely to find in the States, and rivals what you’ll find in the UK. My wife is British, and we get back to visit her family fairly frequently, and we like some fish and chips. When I saw this place had opened I was skeptcal — in part because the name reminded me of the old H. Salt Fish and Chips chain. Not a good reference. However, my wife wanted to try it one evening, and we were pleasantly surprised. Lots of choices of fish, and the chips are good. No, really good. Outstanding, really. I’d go for just the chips.
They fry the fish to order, which means it takes longer, but it tastes way better. They serve it with tartar sauce, ketchup, and malt vinegar in a spray bottle. What an interesting idea! You get a good covering of malt vinegar without drowning your fish in it. I like malt vinegar, but for lots of folks a little goes a long way. This lets you do that.

Stopped by here because my wife and I were craving some fish and chips. After some research we found this restaurant had the best reviews. Walking in to the restaurant gave me the feeling of a total local fish n chips restaurant you might find at some island. Its a good thing don’t get me wrong.
Pros. 1. Food looked good nd tasted good.
2. Friendly staff
Cons: 1. Not as long wait for ur food to be ready but It seems the people who order to pick-​up has found the secret. The ones who are sitting,…well they just sit and wait while the guest who ordered to pick-​up get served first as it seemed.
2. They use Square for credit card payments,.that means ur paying almost 2% FEE if you use your debit card.
3. Very small place. Only good for about 10 people.

Craving fried food? Come here! They have lots of options and are VERY generous with the portions! My boyfriend and I both got two meals out of our orders.
If you don’t like seafood they offer chicken as well ;D
Their fries are thick and yummy. They have a number of condiments to fulfill pretty much any of your fried food needs.
Their cocktail sauce is HOT! I believe they use wasabi in it. leaves a little bit of a burn in your nose, I like. I also liked their tartar sauce and had a hard time choosing between the two so i mixed them together and it was really yummy!
I believe the the batter is a little thicker than traditional fish and chips so it makes for an EXTREMELY heavy meal. I would suggest sharing.
They offer: Loard’s ice cream which I’m not a fan of but it’s still a nice touch.

SMALL place, but don’t let that FOOL you! ! This is my second time here. The service was fast,& the food came in no time at all! Ordered the cod (2) piece (HUGE POTIONS OF FISH) comes with fries & a choice of deep fried vegies, (had the EXTRA LARGE MUSHROOMS! !) Alao ordered the prawns and fried, with hush puppies. Fish & prawns were fried just right. Fries, mushrooms, & hush puppies PERFECT! ! Comes with all the condiments, plenty of tartar sauce, ketchup and vinegar.
PRICE was more than reasonable! 10.95 EACH, with plenty to take home for later!!! Definitely will be coming back! !!

I love it when o stumble upon a new place and it turns out great.
We came to this area for other reasons and our growling tummies lead us to HS fish & chips. Walked in, really clean. The woman at the front was pleasant.
I ordered the «double catch» order which comes with 2 pieces of catfish fillets, 4 prawns, 2 half sides so I ordered fries and cole slaw for $ 17 my boyfriend order the chicken tenderloins with fries and hush puppies for $ 10. All that and 2 sodas later it came out to $ 28 with a 10% off discount by checking in.
I am so satisfied. The food was freshly made. Prepped well and served hot! They give you a variety of flavoring options such as hot sauce, tarter sauce, vinegar spray, sushi seasoning and more. Food tastes super good, not too salty but flavorful.
All in all, my family and I are very happy to have stumbled upon HS fish & chips.

This is my second time going to this place and the service is consistent! I’m very big customer service and the young lady is kind and attentive!

Haven’t been here in a long time, but was really glad we stopped in this evening. They had the oysters & man they were excellent! They fry all of they items to perfection. The batter on the oysters was crisp & delicious. The oil is very clean & super hot, very little of the fry oil stays on the food. The cod we had was very good too. Fry’s, rings & coleslaw yummy. The family that runs the joint are super nice & friendly.
Remember that they are closed on Mondays & Tuesdays, but go here any other time & you won’t be disappointed. Oh yeah they have a really great selection of items also.

I love little mom and pop shops like this place! They always have the best food! Their fish portions are large, with a variety of different fish to choose from. So many sides and veggies… it’s all amazing!
If you’re in the mood for deep fried anything then this is the place to hit up. They even carry Loards ice cream so you can grab a scoop while waiting for your food to cook.
I give this place 4 stars instead of 5 because they’re sit down area wasn’t that special looking and not somewhere where me and the fam wanted to sit down and eat. We took our food home and watched our football there.
The only thing that didn’t stay crispy after taking it home was the French fries, but that didn’t really matter when the fish, zuchinni, and onion rings were on point! The food is amazing and did not disappoint! Just not a good place to take a large family to sit down at but that didn’t matter so much to me.

Yeah, I wouldn’t go here. The food is below average, but my main complaint is the obvious health violations– handling money then handling food, unsanitary kitchen and kitchen staff, dirty dishes everywhere, etc. The place has an unclean smell to it.
Besides that, they’re closed at random times when they’re supposed to be open, their strange no-​substitution policy is annoying, and they constantly run out of everything. It’s not worth the frustration so I wouldn’t recommend anyone to go to this place.
