We had a good experience here; service was good, food was good, and the place was nice and clean. The 4 stars are because it is a little over priced for what you’re actually getting.

This is actually an outdated review as I haven’t been to this place for at least six months. Reason? I don’t want to be ripped off anymore ! They are asking for$ 35.00(sashimi deluxe) for only 12 pieces of thinly sliced fish ! You’ve been warned ! Forget about their taste, freshness, service etc. Just the overpricing issue already scared many old customer away.

Still on the hunt for some great sushi… unfortunately, we did not find it at Taki Sushi. The waitress said they are changing names, applying for a liquor license, and redoing their menu. The Sukiyaki(sea bass) is not worth the money, it was very small and took too long. My husband ordered our dinner at 8:30pm and it is now 9:23pm and he just got his dinner. The miso soup was too much. The Hamachi kama was very small for the price($ 13.95). I am not impressed. I hope the change in ownership shake this place up. Unfortunately, we will not be back.

I love the food here especially the cooked meals. I have to emphasize and recommend the chicken katsu. It’s like eating a juicy piece of fried chicken, not your typical thin slivers, dehydrated-looking chicken cutlets you may find in other Japanese places, and the sauce is unique as they top it off with what looks like Furikake seasoning and a side of mayo. Veggie tempura is nicely done too, not at all overly greasy and they put a good variety of vegetables: kabocha squash, zuchhini, other types of roots: yam and taro(I think), eggplant and a bonus piece of deep fried seaweed. Customer service has always been efficient and friendly. Their sushi is good too; however, I will update on that when it’s fresh in my mind.

The tea was good. Sushi not something I would order again. The rice was dry, no flavor, stuff seemed old. The guy making the sushi needs a few more lessons. The other food was either over sauced, under cooked or over cooked. Service was fair, needs to learn Japanese(Japanese rest) or English. Overall if you don’t care about the food you serve, DONT!!!

We are sad to say that you guys have lost us as customers :( Our usual order: Sashimi — not the same Pan fried udon noodles — too salty and the chicken was still raw Sushi — over-whelmingly sweet! It’s the same brown sauce drenched in all 3 rolls that we ordered. Shrimp bacon — bacon and shrimp still raw Fresh oysters — weren’t «fresh» We usually don’t mind the price but we surely got raped today. Poor quality! I don’t know what happened. But we will not be back.

Normally love this place, but we went there last night to find they lost their liquor license(it expired, we were told) and to see that the fish in the case at the sushi bar looked sparse and sad. Turned around and went to Elevation 66 instead.

Sloppy hospitality. Is it worth going out of your way to dine at Taki Sushi? I would have to say no. I tried that. We arrived for lunch today(Monday) entered and met the serving lady. She was not polite, and informed us that they don’t serve lunch. I mentioned that that contradicts the internet listing. As we went out, I picked up a menu and came back in, pointing to the line that says Lunch: Open Monday 12 — 2pm. She said that they don’t let anyone in after 1:45. I pointed out that that was still 10 minutes from now. That didn’t help. She would not serve us. What gives? It doesn’t bode well for the hospitality or the restaurant. This is not only inconvenient for me, but embarrassing for my guests. Frankly, I need a place more dependable(and in this case more polite.) I did try to contact them before writing the review. They appear to have no email. Their web-site has a contact section which reveals no phone or email. Perhaps the food is better than the sloppy hospitality.

It is a lovely place. The service is super polite and sweetttt!!. I order the Uni&Sake&Hamachi&Tuna Nigiri. it is super fresh! And my friend order the lion king and Dragon, it’s amazing! The sushi man made it very quick.(Perfect. We are Super hungry) We order the yaki udon, it has some special dressing on top, it looks like have something move. LOVE It! Yakitory is tasty, But it takes some time to cook it. Ambience is comfortable.

Service was nice but would not come back again. Definitely not for the sushi. Our total was $ 107 including tax and tip(I’ve had better for cheaper). For the price, I’d rather go to Kamza Sushi Palace in Pacific East mall(for this area) because the quality in fish and type of fish available here is mediocre. First impression, their menu was kind of everywhere. They serve everything and it didn’t seem like they specialized in anything. We ordered the takoyaki, two Kaki oysters? similiar to an oyster shooter($ 9 for 1), Chirashi bowl($ 18), yaki udon with beef($ 13? there’s a varied charge for the type of meat you want ie. beef, chicken, or seafood), four uni nigiris with quail egg(extra charge for the quail egg), sake nigiri and amaebi nigiri. After we ordered, we were given hot towels to wipe down our hands(nice touch. not too many sushi restaurants do this) and she brought out a small dish of pickled cucumbers. The pickled cucumbers weren’t bad but I didn’t care for it. Takoyaki– was delicious. No complaints. Oyster shooters– consists of sake, oyster, uni, tobiko, quail egg, ikura, and yam(i had to ask the server what the white stuff at the bottom of the cup was and she said it was japanese white mountain yam). This was a BIG disappointment. I was expecting an oyster shooter in a spoon or a smaller glass. The serving was so big that I wasn’t able to enjoy the whole thing all at once, like you’re supposed to. Instead I was able to taste each ingredient individually(waitress gave us a spoon). I didn’t care for the yam it looked sticky/slimey and had no taste to it. It didn’t look that appealing tbh. The ikura was not fresh, way too salty and fishy for my liking. The sake and quail egg washed down the fishy taste of the uni. I didn’t like how they added a bunch of bonito flakes in there either(WHY?). Chirashi bowl– I didn’t have this plate but it looked basic. About 9ish slices of fish total and one slice per type. The bro complained that the rice was nasty and hard. yaki udon with beef– this plate was delicious but again they load up the dish with bonito flakes(WHY?). They also put in lots of slices of yam(looked like taro), which I didn’t care for. Uni nigiri with quail egg– I should of known better than to order Uni. The quail egg helped mask the fishy taste and smell of the uni. It also only came with one piece of uni per nigiri. I’m used to two but better sushi restaurants give three. Sake nigiri– Salmon was good but the sushi rice they use is equivalent to that of packaged sushi you can get from the grocery store. Amaebi nigiri– was probably the best thing we ate but it sucked that the rice broke off after picking it up from the plate. They also served us complimentary mochi they served us was disappointing too. The ice cream itself was delicious but the mochi was hard and thick. It was so powdery and even tasted uncooked. I scooped out the ice cream and left the mochi. BTW! The wasabi is not fresh.(This was listed in the highlights) If you think this is «fresh» wasabi… You’ve never had«fresh» wasabi before. Parking SUCKS too. There’s a small SMALL lot right in front of the place that has 4 or 5 spaces. We found street parking(no big deal) but we parked in front of the sketchy«motel/suites with sauna room» which was about a block down.

It’s a nice restaurant. The service was polite, and the fish is so fresh as always. I like it. The skewers was very tasty, but it takes time.

We had eaten there at least a couple dozen times prior and the food and service has been consistently good. However, on my last two visits, my food didn’t come until the others in my party had nearly finished theirs. The first time, my bento box’s ingredients were the same as others in my party, and the last time I ordered skewers and finally told the waitress that I no longer wanted to wait and cancelled my order. What awards this one-star rating is that when I asked who was in charge, the sushi chef said the manager wasn’t in. On a Friday night. Maybe that explains everything. Nobody offered to do anything except charge me for the rest of my party’s food. There won’t be another time for me.

Second time here. I really wanted to like them. They’re the closest sushi place to where I live. But honestly — no. I can not recommend them. Drive a few miles and you’re in Berkeley with some of the best sushi restaurants around. Don’t spend your money here. I ordered a Rainbow roll and soup/salad. Blah. Nothing great. My partner ordered a dinner bento box that had very fatty meat and was something I personally would not have even eaten — at all. I tasted it. The ambiance there is nice. Trickling fountains and all, but for the money you can do a LOT better. The place was nearly empty yet the service was really spotty.

It was a mistake giving this restaurant a chance. BIGMISTAKE!!! Ever in my eat-out experience I had to not pay a single dime of TIPS and here is the reason. Up til our sushi came up, things were still good. Honestly, the sushi was ok. When the hot food started coming in was all the down hill began. Sukiyaki was totally different from their photo and is a total scam. It was $ 16.95 with possibility a piece of cheap tough steak cut to lengthwise and thrown into a broth with 2 pieces of yam, 1 piece of eggplant, small bunches of yam noodle, little bitty cabbages and 1 mushroom. If you don’t know how to make sukiyaki, please don’t put it on your menu. This is totally a soup with all the left over pieces thrown in it, and charging me for hefty $ 16.95. The worst is yet to come. We got our 10 skewers(yakitori) onto 1 big plate. Shortly after, we found the chicken gizzard to be raw inside and so we told one of the two waitresses. She heard and took the whole plate away(with the rest of the 8 skewers, 2 were eaten). We thought she might be coming back to give us back our food. After a long wait, we started to have doubt and ask our regular server. Her reply is that the other lady said you were only complaining about the chicken gizzard and hinting that it was not her mistake and there is nothing she can do. We were totally outraged after some exchange of conversation where they are in denial of their malpractice. Eventually, I have to pull my last weapon is to ask for the boss. Now, she started apologizing and taken our yakitori out from the bill. This is not the result we were looking for but better than charged us for food we didn’t eat. Both food and services are very lacking. There is no reason I would ever come back again.

All I really have to say is wow. And not in a good way. My dad made reservations for 7 o’clock. We get to the place on time and everything seems fantastic. We get the special room that you take off your shoes. They bring us waters. Perfect. Then we ordered food. We order our food at around 715. They brought out the first order at 730, which was dragons rolls and a salad. The next one at 745(sashimi bento), then 800(shabu shabu which all the food was thrown in already and we lost the experience of us cooking it ourselves), then our very last dish at 830(oyster pancakes). The point of eating out at a restaurant is typically we all eat together. It was horrid. However. I do give two stars for the poor nervous waitress who was explaining that the OWNER of the restaurant is training a NEWCHEF on a Saturday night. –_– really? Though the food was decent, I refuse to come back to this place due to the experience. People who ordered take out even got the food before us. –_–

This place is a great place if you are local. I Like the back room where you can sit on the floor but you can only sit there if you are with a large group of people or spend over 100 dollars. The food is yummy I like the Taki roll and there red bean ice cream is great.

Why is it SO hard to find good sushi in my hood? WHY!!! I was sent here by a friend. SO disappointed. The food was over priced, shrimp was barely visible in my tempura shrimp rolls, avocado was non existent, seaweed was chewy and portions were SOTINY! I was so sad. Spent over 80– bucks and was still hungry. Tempura part was also soggy. I don’t know if it’s because I ordered on a Monday night, or if it’s because it was«to-go» but I was not happy. 2nd star because they were nice and friendly on the phone, but that’s about all!

I love the ambiance of this place, and the food is decent. For the price, it was just not worth it to me when there are comparable and better sushi spots in the area. Service is attentive, and the quality of ingredients is very good. The experience just didn’t wow me. They are a kid friendly establishment though, so cool points for that! My daughter was treated just like the full grown paying patrons =)

I love Take Sushi. It took me awhile to try it out, even though it is in my neighborhood. Now that I’ve tried the sushi, shabu shabu and yakatori here, I am a regular and my guy and I come here for our date nights. The service is always great, very friendly waitresses and sushi chefs. We enjoy talking with them and they remember us every time we come back. The food is always pretty quick and we always leave happy. I’ve had a variety of the rolls, but we always come back and order the nigiri special almost every time. We like to try whatever is fresh and the chef chooses 8 different pieces. The sushi chefs are professionally trained and I like to sit up at the bar and watch. Once I saw the head sushi chef completely break down a huge bonito with ease. As someone who loves to cook, I was so impressed. I absolutely love the Escolar(Butter fish), it melts in your mouth and order it every time. The oysters are always fresh and topped with green onion and tobiko. We love the cold sake, asahi beer and trying new items each time. The yakatori is great and priced between $ 2 – 5.50 per plate, our favorite has to be the bacon wrapped scallops and the bacon wrapped shrimp, although we loved the steak wrapped asparagus. The shabu shabu was not only fun, but delicious. We started with a couple pots for my brother in law’s birthday and ended up ordering a lot more once everyone started getting into it. The veggies were very unique for shabu, I’ve tried it many times and loved the different items. Now whenever we plan on having a celebratory dinner, date night or just want to get out for some good sushi — we don’t have to travel far. I am very thankful that we gave this place a shot and found a place that we will look forward to coming back again and again.

Very rarely will I ever post a review. This is an exception! With great customer service, fast and efficient serving time, and an overall great environment, Taki Sushi has everything there is to offer in a sushi restaurant. Taki Sushi offers pick up sushi, and makes some amazing rolls! I would recommend sitting at the child friendly bar where you can watch the sushi chef cook. I would suggest that you order the miso soup, rainbow roll, unbelievable roll, or the dragon roll. They offer many drinks including hot and cold sake. SASHIMIISTHEBEST. Ps: Don’t try speaking Japanese with the staff because they either speak Mandarin or will just giggle when you say«hajimemashite»(how do you do).
