THIS PLACE IS A GEM. Like a diamond in the rough. Jenny has 10 years of experience, was trained in Los Angeles and it REALLY SHOWS.
No I am not a personal friend, but a brand-​spanking NEW client. I just Unilocaled this salon a couple hours ago looking for a decently priced place to get my hair cut, walked there and came back to post my review. So you want unbiased? Here it is.
I have run the gauntlet from very expensive salons to the humble super cuts and what I’ve discovered through the years (as someone who has also gone to beauty school but am on hiatus) is the more posh a salon DOES NOT necessarily mean the more skill. I have gotten horrifying mistakes and service done to me on both ends of the spectrum, so I have learned what it takes to be a wonderful hair stylist and how finding one does not mean lubing yourself up for a shaft in cost OR customer service.
In the perfect stylist there is a sweet spot, a perfect combination of hometown-​barber warmth and charisma, high fashion skill/​honesty and a honed capacity for communication/​understanding that goes into being a truly wonderful stylist. Jenny has got it.
I had a wonderful, non-​rushed, attentive shampoo. My hair is pixie so it would be easy to destroy in less experienced hands but without prompting she knew to use a razor when I showed her the modern, textured pixie shape I wanted, she didn’t just start hacking scissors over comb. Her hands are sure and we talked the whole time, fluid, easy conversation. That’s how I knew she had received training in LA and how I knew she has been doing it for 10 years. She doesn’t come off as someone you should be intimidated by, quite the opposite. She was very easy to be alone in the salon with.
Though the salon itself certainly feels more like a barber shop the work feels like something I have paid quadruple the cost for and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT & AM VERY SATISFIED. Shampoo, cut and generous tip cost me less than a hair cut at other salons nearby where the girls can be catty and talk trash the minute you turn your back. On my way out a sweet old couple came in and also knew Jenny. She welcomed them warmly BY NAME and I felt right away that she makes people of all types feel welcome.
Long story short she got my haircut JUST RIGHT, EXACTLY what I asked for! (Brief Public Service Announcement: Keep in mind before asking for something from a stylist make sure you’ve got the right hair for it, THEY’RE NOT SORCERERS! THEY’RE STYLISTS!) You want posh salon quality for economy-​worthy cost? New Design is the spot, it’s little but Jenny is masterful at hair cutting. I haven’t had color done yet, but when I do I’ll let ya’ll know how that goes but in my opinion, I’d be in GREAT HANDS!

Great salon. No fluff. No bells and whistles, just a simple salon that gives a great haircut for an absolutely great price. Jenny is very friendly and I highly recommend her.

Jenny was more than helpful in setting me straight on a great looking haircut!!! It was a pleasure to talk to her as she quickly and effortlessly cut my hair. I will be going back for sure.

Very nice, very clean, great price. There are two girls who work there and are very nice, and they always cut my hair exactly like I want it, they are extremely consistent. Jenny remembered my name after only two times going in, and knew exactly how to cut my hair without having to tell har again.

Ive been going here 4 years and feel GOOD everytime they cut my hair
because they make you look GOOD with your new haircut.
Open Monday thru Saturday .10AM to 6 PM and you can just call Jenny
for an appointment in advance if you are pressed for time.
Crowded on Saturdays sometimes, but during the week is usually in and
out in 30 – 45 minutes unless you have a special perm, etc you are having
done.
JENNY is a Friendly Hair Cutter and I see alot of repeat customers like myself when I go there.
Highly reccommend to those who like a relaxing Hair Cutting place, drama
free, friendly cutters, and you look real nice when you walk out after the haircut.
