Good donut place just get there early. I went in pretty late and there selection was pretty much wiped out.

Donut Ave. is neatly seated, not unlike a shelved book, into a nondescript shopping strip in Lakeside. And though the shop’s location is hardly conducive to drive to, it’s one of the better choices for donuts in East County. The inside is tidy, neat, gussied up with innocuous pictures of their menu items. They have the whole banquet of flavors going on: maple bars, lacquered up with sugary perfection; old fashioned donuts, their crevices sealed by chocolate; cinnamon buns, whirled with their decadent namesake. My favorite, however, are those damned donut holes. Punch a few dozen of those in a starch-white bag, and we have a winner. I love this place, even though every time I enter the store, for whatever reason, some old customer is hunkered over a table in despair; I’m thinking elder Peter O’Toole, if he were American and potentially homeless. Final note: Love the staff.
