At the time of writing this review, I wondered, why I didn’t look at the previous reviews. Tonight, I visited this place for the second time and form the point I entered, this place was missing something. There was no receptionist and overall, the service was bad. We had to ask a few times for a water to be refilled and no one even cared. The server dropped some food on the table and was not even apologetic. The food was just fine and nothing special. Unfortunately, these places don’t’ realize that customer service matter a lot and there are a lot of competition. If you have a dissatisfied customer, you’d lose that customer. I’d never go back to this place again.

Amazing chettinad cuisine ever had! ordered chicken varuval, kothu paratha, chicken biriyani and mutton keema dosa. Just loved all. Spicy but each had distinctly different taste. Highly recommended. visited thrice in a month already!

Several years ago, I really liked this place and it was my favorite Indian on Oak Tree Road, but in three visits over the last two years, I have consistently had bad service(like, wait over an hour for your meal to be served and can’t get the check bad service) and the food has been mediocre. There are much better places down the street.

Karaikudi… went with expectations left with disappointments. From the beginning of this wonderful experience, try getting in the door, cannot get in people are blocking the door. When you manage to walk in, good luck trying to breathe in the heat, humidity and lack of ventilation. Now that you are already miserable, mill around some more and try to look for the invisible host or hostess. Got a table? Try finding utensils, they are playing hide and seek and the staff will argue they already gave you a set. Now the food, if you taste one dish you have tasted it all — that is of course if they fill the platters in time for you to eat. And the best part is if you want ice cream take it with side of fellow guests finger taste. Now that you’ve made a mess, clear your own table plates since it will sit there for a while. And if you need a napkin, bring your own. Now that you are done eating, god forbid you need to use the facilities, be prepared for splattered fecal matter even on the flush lever. Now, i dare you, go ahead and pay, and lo and behold an 18% gratuity to a party of five in a buffet??? Without service… go figure… End of story, save your money, time and happiness. Do not go there.

I went there since my husband was so excited. — Reception — non-existent — service — non-existent — food — every dish looks, smells and taste all the same but bonus is you leave the establishment with the smell of food on you, your clothes and your hair. — overpriced — disorganized Overall if I can rate it zero stars I would! Stay away!

We got chicken chettinad and chicken 65. Chicken chettinad is supposed to be the marquee item of the restaurant but it was really terrible. Chicken in chettinad tasted expired and smells bad. It was not spicy at all which is supposed to be the only reason why you order chettinad. Chicken 65 was okay. On Unilocal it clearly says you get a 10% off after checking in on Sunday but the manager declined to honor it. I have no idea why. Please try some other restaurants

The staff was so incredibly nice, they even gave us a free dessert Semiy Payasam(basically glass noodles in condensed milk) that was really tasty. The mango Lassi and masala dosa were delicious as always, and the naan was light and fluffy. We didn’t get to enjoy the curry entrees except for the butter chicken which was delicious if a bit spicy, and real chunks of chicken!

Tried this place for the first time tonight since Ming was too crowded and we didn’t want to wait for 30 minutes just to get a table. Well, Ming’s loss was our gain. The food was really good! We had the Karaikudi Kozhi pepper Varuval for appetizer, and the Mutton Kothu Porotta and Chettinad fish curry as entrees. The fish curry had the only flaw that the fish filets were not that great. Other than that the gravy was very good. The appetizer and the kothu porotta were excellent! Will be back soon.

Amazing south Indian food. I am south Indian and have had food all over India. I can say confidently this is the best south Indian food restaurant I have been to in the US. The spice is phenomenal and the buffet is a steal! Great affordable price for superior food! I make long distance trips with family and friends just to introduce them to the restaurant. Will keep going back!

hey, remember that one time after lunch that I saw a baby cockroach walk across the table and I complained to the manager who just said, «OK?» buddy, if it’s not part of the menu, it shouldn’t be in the restaurant!

We have been here twice now for the lunch buffet. Staff is friendly and responsive to needs and plate rotation and the food is well stocked and fresh! Clean and relaxing ambiance. Our favorite spot for Indian Cuisine in Edison area — which is saying a lot since there are ample options!

Let me start by saying I went there exactly 3 times. 1st: my wife was 8 months pregnant and got food poisoning and had an early labor scare. Year 20102nd: Took our parents to the weekend buffet and the food was extremely spicy we could hardly eat. Year 2013 3rd: Went last week on Wednesday. Didn’t realize they had dinner buffet. Now my whole family has been throwing up all weekend. We will never go there ever even if it is the last restaurant standing on Oak Tree Road. WORSTRESTAURANTEVER

We were 4 people and a child. Ordered some starters, the chicken varuval was good and vegetables manchurian was half cooked. We were a little disappointed but thought the entrée would make up for it. We ordered mutton chukka masala with parotta, idly and kothu parotta. All of it was a disaster. The parotta was made like a naan and was not the flakey layered one. Kothu made out of it was unbearable. Mutton chukka masala had raw meat smell. Idly was hard enough to be used a weapon of mass destruction. The manager could not resolve the issue. We asked to meet the chef and apparently he refused saying«he was busy». duh. Frozen food from supermarket would taste better than this place. Seriously.

While moving from Boston I had heard about great variation of Indian food — North and South — in Edison area. Its very difficult to find authentic South Indian food in Boston area. I read reviews of Karaikudi and was drawn to this place because of Chettinad chicken. I chose to goto a buffet which was pretty sub-standard. For $ 16 the spread was very impressive. But food was very sub-standard. I walked in at 12:15 p. m and found most of the items to be cold. Mutton Kurma and Chicken chettinad were overladen with chilly which subdues all other flavors of spices. Biryani was slightly on the sweeter side and once parathas got over it took forever to be replenished. Also they can do better with cleanliness and ambience.

I feel really sorry to write this review. Although they leave me with no choice. I have always liked their food since it’s the most authentic tasting South Indian place around. But insects buzzing all over my food is unacceptable. Poor hygiene is disgusting. Worse of all, we saw a kid peeing in the trash can in the restaurant. If this has been in NY, they would have never got a B-health grade. I feel sorry to see this place deteriorate to this level. Adiós! I am taking my business elsewhere.

The food is just OK. Food is spicer than other restaurants in the area. I loved the chicken poppers, they were awesome. They also have dinner buffet with huge selection of menu items. The ambiance is also OK, they do have a huge sitting space. Overall an OK restaurant. Will recommend to try the dinner buffet. Note: They do not accept the Unilocal dinner buffet discount !

Being from southern part of India, I always crave for the authentic spicy home food. This is one restaurant I go frequently. If you are also from southern india or if you are the one who like spicy indian food, this is your spot in Edison area. Their lunch buffet is the best value for money and the variety they offer is awesome. I am a pure non vegetarian;) and the options i get here is WOW. They provide one of the best appetizers for non vegetarians. I also love the dessert options, mostly indian sweets(atleast two). One of the best south Indian buffet in tristate area easily.period. I have tried ala carte few times and i loved their variety of items on the menu like kadai 65 which you get only in chettinad restaurants. But when you get almost everything for $ 13 buffet why bother spending so much on ala carte;) They get pretty packed during weekend lunch hours and you cannot reserve over the phone:(You have to go and give your name and wait outside which is one negative thing abt the restaurant. Though you will get a seat with in 20 – 30 minutes for a company of 2 to 4, the wait time might increase if you come with big group. But this has never detested me from going to the restaurant. Tip — They are busy between 1 — 2.30PM durng weekends. If you go before or after that time, you could get seats soon.

This is the best buffet in the tri-state area for a variety of reasons: 1. Variety: Handful of veg&Non-veg appetizers to over 15 veg/non-veg entrees to desserts 2. Unique: Truly unique dishes on the buffet include keerai bhonda(fritter with greens), okra puli kozhumbu(lentil gravy with tamarind) and mysore pak(flour cake with clarified butter) 3. Authentic: Everything tasted truly like it should: Chettinad; a true balance of tangy and hot. Avial(veg in yogurt gravy) brought back memories of my childhood, Meen Kozhumbu(Fish curry) tasted like what i once had in a wedding at Karaikudi(the namesake city in the Chettinad region of India)

Hidden behind a bunch of buildings, I came across this gem of a restaurant. Now I’ve eaten in many places in Edison and don’t write reviews unless I really feel the place deserve it. I’ve lived in south India and appreciate the flavours of good chetinad cuisine. This was definitely a great walk down memory lane. The sauces are fresh, the right amount of heat, and thankfully not an overkill with the turmeric, which is heavy on South Indian food. The atmosphere is romantic and there is ample seating. I went with my mom and we loved the intimate setting… Except for the televisions, which I feel took away the finesse of the restaurant. The servers are attentive and helpful. I can’t wait to try out their dinner buffet to sample the other items on their menu.
