WORSTPLACEEVER and VERYRUDEMANAGER: I have never ever experienced this type of behavior and ignorance from a restaurant manager towards the customers. I visited this place couple of times with friends and whenever I go the orders are too late and the food tastes horrible. When my wife was pregnant, I got the meal from here, the good part is 3 – 4 curries but the WORST part is nothing fresh and all are foul. **** I’m kind of person who hates plastic and minimize the use of it, one day I went there with my own glass bowl to get a curry(main reason that my wife is pregnant, was little cautious) and told the same and I have seen a person with no commonsense on plastic usage in our holy world, instead he argued and charged me $ 1 extra for not using especially their PLASTIC container. The main reason behind to bring my own container, I had an experience of plastic leaching into the food(this plastic container is so thin, cheap and I literally seen a traces of plastic fell off into the food because of hot curry). I’d definitely not recommend to go this restaurant ever ever ever!

Wanted to try authentic south indian food and this place did not disappointed me. I tried the Veg tali and loved it. They provide unlimited side dishes and gave extra pappadam too. Looking forward to try other items like Dosa, uttapam etc from this place.

Amazing andhra food I ever had in U.S. It is specify authenticate east/west godavari style food. Restaurant owner is famous film artist in Bollywood in 80’s and 90’s. If you are fan of spicy andhra food, please visit here on weekends for buffets.

In search of an authentic south Indian food in NJ and here it is. Feels like home food. I’ll surely visit again and recommend this to all my south Indian friends. Fun fact: the owner of the restaurant is a famous south Indian actor.

Edit: Yet another restaurant that has NO concept of customer service, and thinks its OK to make you wait 2 hours for an order with absolutely no heads-up of any kind. Disclaimer: This review only pertains to delivery orders. Good food, spicy by default and worth the money. If you’re not an Indian with a tolerance for spicy food, make it clear in the comments that you want your food MILD, or you’ll be in for a rough night :). Try the Egg curry combo with the Parathas or the Meals(Veg/non-veg). Avoid the Gobi Manchurian at all costs. The Paneer tikka combo is a hit or miss. You can’t really go wrong with the sweets as well. As for the service, I’ve only had a delay once, and they called me to inform me about it. They say they usually take 45 – 60 minutes to deliver, so I always order earlier than I need, and that’s worked well for me. The delivery guys are friendly too. All in all, I’ll continue to order from here when I’m feeling too lazy to cook myself. So… quite a lot.

I have been to this place for Saturday lunch. Based on the name I thought I can get some South Indian dishes(typically Andhra style). Beauty here is you can get Dosa on buffet. It’s good. May be its funny to say this way, or I visited this place on my bad time, I found APPALAM is very good than all items. This meal price is too high for that price. No welcoming environment. I waited for few minutes no one asked me what I want. I only approached cashier and requested them for table. While having lunch I am looking for water/drink no one is taking care of us. It’s really bad. That meal price is not deserve for what they serve. definitely I won’t recommend this or revisit this GONGURA

After many attempts, I only received one of my refunds back. I didn’t even bother calling back because I didn’t want to deal with that all over again. I appreciate their time but I don’t think I’ll be returning.

I made a special trip here because of the strong reviews on this site. It was a mistake. I may have had the worst meal of the year. But the waiter was very nice. That’s the best thing I can say about it. I wanted to try mutton. There are several mutton dishes on the menu. I asked for one that wasn’t spicy. What I ended up with was a little bowl of sauce with half a dozen bones in it. There was almost no meat on any of the bones. Most of the bones had no meat at all. This was the smallest portion I have ever seen. It was just bones in sauce. If you are going to be a vegetarian place, do not put mutton on the menu as if there is some meat in the dish. So what I ended up with was sauce and rice. Twelve dollars for sauce and rice. To my surprise there was an additional two dollars on the bill. It was for roti. When the waiter was telling me what kind of bread I could have, he didn’t make it clear to me that it would cost extra. I thought it came with the mutton dinner. The roti wasn’t particularly good. I didn’t eat more than a couple of bites. The reason for Unilocal is to let people know what they can expect. So you can take one of two lessons from this review. Either don’t order the mutton or don’t come here.

The veg meals are great. I love them so much that sometimes I just come here by myself to get that piping hot pot of rice surrounded by 5 delicious dishes, including curry of the day, dal, sambar, etc. and also papad and roti fresh on the side as well! Beware: they have changed over the last few years, and they appear to still be changing. Prices are steadily rising every few months. The menu has expanded a bit. They are using real(and not plastic) utensils. And, I am sad to report that they are toning down the spiciness. I still love Gongura for a good, spicy veg meal and visit them often. :)

I would love to go to this place for dinner every day. The vegetarian meals is a great option where everything tastes home style and for a cheaper price. HOMP: Ambiance — 2⁄5 Taste — 5⁄5 Cost– 5⁄5 Overall-4/5

Not really sure what to write about. I went to the restaurant around 7:30PM. It was pretty deserted except for one couple with a child. The person who seated me was taking orders on the phone and there were two people inside the kitchen. I ordered a cut mirchi — which has rave reviews and a spicy buttermilk for starters. After 20 minutes the guy who took my rift comes out and says cut mirchi will take 15 minutes and why don’t I order something else. I tell him that I will just take the spicy buttermilk for a starter while I look at the menu. 30 minutes passed by and no sign of my order. Some folks were lining up to pick up their takeout. I got tired of waiting and told the waiter that I will take the buttermilk to go. He said it will take another 15 mins! At the point I canceled the order and went in search of a different restaurant. What a waste of time!

I ordered for delivery and the food was delivered in 40 minutes. I had ordered pepper fry, chettinad chicken curry and chicken biryani. Pepper fry was spicy but ok, chettinad chicken curry was extremely spicy and spices were not even cooked properly. The worst was the chicken biryani, it was smelling and looked as if it was going to be spoilt. I had just throw all the biryani. The worst biryani I have had(or hadn’t), will never order from this place again

Where is my meat? This place takes the prize for smallest portion size ever seen at an Indian restaurant. The«Non-Vegetable Mutton Curry Meal» included three small pieces of hard, bony meat; a couple ounces of chickpea dal; four tiny bowls of yogurt, rasam, pickle soup and an unidentifiable liquid that was supposed to be curry; all centered around what must have been a pound of rice(see photo uploaded here; note the four tiny bowls are not shown in the photo — but trust me, they do not provide any consolation). The place itself is old with zero décor. Must take the prize for«worst decorated restaurant» in the area as well. To call this experience a disappointment would be an understatement. Worst Indian meal in the area, without a doubt. How they got four stars on Unilocal is beyond my comprehension. P. S. Everything was very spicy.

My friends and I went here for some authentic Indian food. My friend had heard about it, so we decided to give it a try. We heard it was going to be nothing special to look at — it reminded me of a deli more than a restaurant — but we were hopeful for the food. The waiter came and asked what we wanted — we told him we wanted him to choose for us, pick the best of the restaurant. He rattled off a few items, we agreed that it sounded like enough food, and he went off to go make it for us. The tables had pitchers of water and cups. As an avid drinker, I immediately began to pour. The water smelled terrible though — so I opted for a bottle of Poland Spring instead. I think it’s how they wash their cups that gave the water the bad smell, not the water itself. Either way, there was no way I was drinking it. The food came and it was so good. We got a vegetarian rice dish, which was the main focus of the meal. It was huge, and it was delicious. Then we got a lamb dish and a paneer tikka masala(the only name I can remember). We also got some bread, which was different from the naan I’m used to, but still very good. In all, the meal was excellent. We had many different tastes that all came together well. The waiter did a great job recommending food for us, and I would definitely bring people who enjoy Indian here in the future. It might not be the best introduction to Indian for newbies, though.

Gongura embodies the phrase, «Don’t judge a book by its cover».. The interior is a combo of park, grocery store and storage closet. The menu is 7 items long and written on a white board propped up on a chair. The owner/cook/manager is elusive. The food, really as good as all the reviews have raved about. My friend and I went there for dinner on a weekday. By the time we arrived, 7 pm, 3 of of the 7 menu items were no longer available. Luckily for us, the ones we wanted were. Actually, I should clarify. Food at gongura, doesn’t really come as «items» but more as «meals». You order your main course and sit back and let the owners surprise you. I got a mutton curry and my friend, a chicken curry. I believe egg and fish were also on the menu. Each came with 5 little cups of sides and plate of fried pakora for under $ 12. One of those delightful cups included homemade yogurt to cool down the decidedly spicy food. I’m no wimp when it comes to spice, but I will admit, my nose was watering. It was awesome. Definitely, definitely give this place a try. Get take out if you prefer a more appealing interior, but don’t let it scare you away from tasting a different part of Indian than the ones who brought you Chicken Tikka Masala and Tandoori Chicken. There’s so much more out there. Also, do yourself a favor and park on the side of the restaurant closest to the street, so you won’t have to move your car to avoid tension between the adjoining businesses
