I only pick up takeout from China Star. The woman at the desk is professional and has never gotten my order wrong. I usually get the mixed seafood dishes from their Korean/Chinese menu… it’s the larger menu near their regular takout menus. I prefer that menu because there seems to be a lot more interesting choices on there. The other menu has a lot of average corner-Chinese-spot takout choices. Anyways… back to my actual review. I really like their mixed seafood dish. The rice is not hard but not mushy like I’ve had it at some other places. The seafood tastes fresh and I just LOVE the massive amount of egg they put in it! I do cardio at the Planet Fitness in this plaza and definitely use this spot as one of my «treat/cheat» spots after a good workout!

Beef noodle soup is really good. The noodles are one of the best I’ve had. It’s chewy but soft. Tbh the only thing that tastes good from here. THENAMEOFCHINASTARISDECEIVING. It is not for American Chinese food but Korean Chinese food. They also need new waiters. They barely responded to anything.

Has been long term customer since the 90s. Owner and Chef changed and the quality of food just went down! I will not go back!

Really bad service. The male serve does not smile and say anything when he’s at your table.

This restaurant sucks !! We ordered a sweet and sour pork and noodle. The noodle tasted very bitter, and the sweet and sour is neither sweet nor sour. It tasted like a glue… We left the restaurant after one bite… It was THEWORSTRESTAURANT ever !!!

Okay here is where I stand with the place! I am a loyal customer to Edison noodle house. That being said I like a few dishes here better then my usual place. The seafood noodle(spicy) not as good they lack wood ear mushrooms, sea cucumber, and scallions. So I prefer my usual place. We also had the fried pork with sweet and sour(tang su yuk) this was the same here. Then we also had seafood over rice(jap tang pab) much better here, a bigger portion as well as flavor, again no wood ear mushrooms but it was better here. The brown noodle here(ja-ja-mun) was okay can’t say who was better on this item. But I have to say for service a 5 star here the waiter was so attentive I thought I was dining in a classy joint, only thing missing was wine and crystal glasses. Now keep in mind this is not a traditional Chinese joint so don’t dine here if that’s what you are looking for. This is traditional Chinese Korean noodle shop. That being said if you want good selection of Chinese/Korean here it is. Over all I like this place and will continue coming.

This is a pretty good Korean Chinese food place. I’ve ordered the black bean noodle, the sweet and sour pork, and the spicy seafood soup. And its comparable to the same dishes I’ve eaten in northern NJ. I’ve seen other people order general tso chicken here and I really want to tell them that this might not be the right place for American Chinese take-out. The dining area is weird. They’ve framed completed puzzle pieces. And it’s awfully quiet in the dining room. I’m sure it’s less spooky when there is more people.

I don’t know why the ratings are so low for this place. I think it’s a gem. Just cause the name is «China star» I feel people jump to the assumption that it’s just like every other«China Star» they see on the road. The service has always been quick and professional every time I visit. The dishes I recommend are, mabo Tofu, Pork and pickled cabbage noodle soup, Hot seafood noodle soup, Beef noodle soup, Noodles with special brown sauce(jajang mien), and Oum Rice(japanese style fried rice). I think the noodles used to be better a couple years ago-I don’t know if they changed chefs, but now they always seem overcooked. The prices are amazing especially for the noodle soups(bowls are ginormous). Definitely a place to visit on a cold fall/winter day.

Bland food, not a fan. Give me more flavor and I’ll give you more stars!

I really like the hot noodle seafood soup. It was spicy hot but not too spicy hot. I did sweat when I had he soup. The soup had a lot materials inside the soup.

Great authentic Chinese food and hand made noodles Try the noodle bowls. The food is not too salty like so many places make it. You can actually taste the chicken, beef and pork in the dishes. You get large portions for the price. Definitely a secret spot.

Honestly, the food was less than what I would’ve hoped. Will not be going again.

If there were a way to give a restaurant zero stars, this would be one I’d do that with. Stopped in for takeout on my way back to the office and got a lunch special of kung pao chicken which was anything BUT special! The chicken was inedible — tasted more like fish than chicken. The rice was chewy, like it had been lying around for a bit. The egg roll was unoffensive but without any particular flavor. And the won ton soup waas inedible as well — little to no flavor, and the wonton itself tasted, well, off. I certainly didn’t get sick from the food(possibly because I ate too little of it), but this may be the worst Chinese food I’ve ever eaten.

Good food at pretty big portions! Jajeung meun was really good. Paired with sweet and sour pork… it was the best Asian food I have ever tasted in a really long time(or maybe I was just really hungry). My friend ordered the beef noodles– they were absolutely to DIE for. The beef was so tender and the flavor just right(some restaurants make the beef and the soup quite salty, but this was really good!) I was actually really surprised because I didn’t really think there were many Asians in the area, but having never been out to the east coast, I was proven wrong. Next time I’m out here visiting my friend, I will DEFINITELY ask him to drive me back to this place. He was telling me stories about how he used to frequent this restaurant during high school– he’d be done with classes early and he & a bunch of friends would come to this restaurant to eat at least 3 – 4 times a week.

I went there yesterday after a few years. I had the lunch special — Sauteed vegetables, white rice and hot and sour soup. I had it to carry out and I found a spring roll as a surprise. I was expecting the crispy fried noodles instead. The spring roll was not too good, but I don’t like them anywhere. The hot and sour soup was looking funny without any soy sauce at all. It was just clear gelatinous soup, too thick for normal taste. But it tasted good. It could have been better. The best part was the sauteed vegetables, with the right taste, lots of bamboo shoots, mushrooms and baby corn. The rice was excellent too, each grain separate, plump chewy and yet not underdone. I think I will rate this as the best Chinese food place in Central NJ, after vising many for last 25 years. I would have rate 5 star if the soup and spring roll were better.

I haven’t been back here in years… since my college days at rutgers. It is just as i had remembered it. I had the korean version of the jia jang mein… it brought back some good memories. My friend had the beef noodles soup which looked really really good. Next time i am in that area i will try that. Too bad it was quite warm on saturday otherwise i would have had it then.

The atmosphere of this place is pretty good; not too noisy to sit down for lunch/dinner and the service is alright. As far as the food is concerned, their noodles were good; we ordered some fried sauce noodles, and although nothing too impressive, definitely good enough for a light dinner to fill up tummy. Don’t really have a strong desire to go back to this place again, but if you are in the area and are craving for some noodles, it’s perhaps worth a try.

This was a chinese restaurant owned by hwa-gyo(korean who migrated to china long time ago) and this used to be the best place in jersey for jja-jjang-myun(noodle with black bean sauce) and tang-soo-yuk(korean style sweet and sour pork). There was a change of management so it’s not as good as it used to be but by far(specially in central NJ), this is the best place to go if you want korean-chinese food. I highly recommend this place.
