OK let me make this clear! This is not to denigrate the installers in any way, but this is a total rip off! Called Home Depot for a new water heater that was listed at their store for $ 407 plus tax. Got quoted by their installer(1800HEATERS). a fee of $ 861 plus $ 98 for Building Permit. The installer claimed that the flue pipe(3″) was not code for the 36000BTU heater that I was buying, it must be 4″. The charge for 2−4″ tin elbows and 2−4×24″ tin vent pipes was $ 265. Material cost less than $ 25 and took 5 minutes to install is HIGHWAYROBBERY! The installers were absolutely professional and neat in their work, but were only doing what they have been trained to do. GET A LOCALINSTALLERIFATALLPOSSIBLE! THISCOMPANYARETHIEVES!

I bought a GE(Rheem) water heater which failed after six years. After many phone calls and hemming and hawing, no one at GE or 1800 heaters(or Home Depot where the heater was really purchased seems interested in returning a call or offering to step up on this. I have bought more than a dozen water heaters of the years and NONE failed at six years; they typically last 10 years. I would give GE and Rheem a FAIL on the quality of their product and 1800 heaters a fail for ignoring their customer.

Very happy with the water heater installation by Ralph T and his assistant. They arrived on time. Ralph T gave me a very professional estimate of the additional charges for valves, vent pipe etc. The work was completed within the estimate of 2 hours. Ralph is very courteous and pleasant to work with. The old heater was removed and the work area was left spotlessly clean,. I would recommend Ralph T. unreservedly

I asked for them to do the job right with proper valves etc and they did and added an extra few hundred dollars to the installation of the hot water heater. They did a good job making it work in a tight space. But I cannot forgive them for not taking 5 minutes to unclog the drain port in the drain pan that is underneath the heater and inaccessible.

Bought through Home Depot which contracts through these guys. My installer did a very good job and the new hot water heater is working much better than the old. Luckily mine was a simple install but just remember that if anything isn’t up to code it could be an extra charge. I guess it’s good to know they’ll do it by the book though.
