If you ever walk into a restaurant and decided to start a diet this is the place. The salsa was old and chips were stale. Waitress did not understand our order. Not a good place to eat any of your 3 meals. Skip this one.

If i could sum this restaurant up in two words. Rip Off! Way overpriced and quality just isn’t there. Anytime I walk into a mexican joint and see a plate over 10 bucks I automatically know it’s going to suck and the portions are going to be skimpy which they were. Tortillas. …Cold whh can’t the cook take a good 3 minutes to brown a tortilla? Free broken old tasting oil chips are ridiculous and they said I would be charged for chips! Lmao. Sorry but go down the street tons of other options at a better price. Owners please take note this food blows and your prices suck. Just my two cents. Prove me wrong and quit being ridiculously overpriced.

This is not a $ rating. It is closer to $$. Most combos were close to $ 10-$ 11. I don’t know why some older reviews call it ‘cheap’… I am torn between 2 – 3 stars. The break down: service lazy. No host to seat, fine but 2hours before closing they were mopping the floor RIGHTBYOTHERDINERS. Later closed mopped section, but still ‘seat yourself’. Watched them chase people out of section even one lady who’d already sat down and was there awhile before they noticed her. They rudely told her to move. How was she to know that the ‘wet floor’ yellow sign meant section closed. BTW there WAS a host! she just stayed at front desk. They shoved all the people into a small section of tables, 8 of the nine tables full right by kitchen and bathroom. Why not let everyone spread out? It was like all these people were cutting into them getting out early. The GOODNEWS: Now, the chicken sopes were great. Charro beans delicious. Not sure what was going on w chips and salsa. I’ve never been to mexican restaurant where you had to ask for the free chips. We got a bowl 1⁄3 full of salsa and 12 chips. Seriously. Then we had to ask for a refill, still 1/3salsa. The salsa was great, like a lot of texans we use it as a dressing nearly when the plate arrives, but did I dare to ask for more? I wish they would provide a sufficient amount and then let me enjoy. Unsweetened Tea was really CLOUDY… I would go back for the food but the service/chip thing are too much! If it’s close to your hotel and you are tolerant of subpar service you will at least enjoy the food.

Not even worthy of a 1 star but I had to choose one so I could write this review ! Picked up food to go, employees at the counter seemed lost and unaware that they were taking a long time to get their tickets together while countless customers were waiting to pay out and pick up food ! Usually at any Mexican restaurant upon ordering a botana the customer should be informed that it does not come with rice, beans and even salsa !! By the time I was made aware of this it was time to pay, time had been spent on the employees taking forever which made our food cold !! Granted that we live less than 5 minutes away by the time we got home our food was cold ! The soup that I ordered had more gristle and fat than meat and the sausage that came in the botana was a bit undercooked ! We choose this establishment over Costa Mesa and Taco olé due to the fact that it has always delivered until today !! I called to speak either manager and they were out because they were closed, apparently there was no one in charge at closing time is what the girl who I talked to said. I was not calling to get anything free just to inform them of there failure to deliver a good meal ! Very disappointed and annoyed with the lack of professionalism that the moonlight café showed us today !!

If by any chance you in the Edinburg or surrounding area The Moon Light Café is the place to stop for a genuine mexican cuisine experience. From there outstanding breakfast menu to the great tasting dinner selection. I make it a routine to stop by a get me a meal every time I’m in the area. There scrambled egg with fajitas side topped with rancheros sauce is always a no fail plate. But I’ll let you make that decision LOL Until next time my friends Peace be with you

Food-Excellent; Service-Excellent, Management-Awful. We had to seat ourselves, even though there were 2 staff at the desk. The overworked waiter, Martin, was doing everything from bringing us menus to keeping ALL the customers served AND try to keep the tables cleaned off. He deserves the«Waiter of the Year» award.

I have not been here in over a year. I ordered Chicken enchiladas, which I had tried in the past. First bite, there was a small chicken bone. Next bite the same. I started to feel sick! I opened up the remainder of enchilada and there were additional bones. I notified the waitress who called someone over who claimed to be the owner. She asked me what I expected, that chickens have bones. I showed her the small pile of bones from the one enchilada and she didn’t care. I told her I wasn’t going to finish the meal and despite having only eaten ¼ of one enchilada, she told me I was just trying to get out of paying for my meal. Everyone in our group stopped eating, paid for the food and left. I refuse to go back. Maybe they were having a bad day, I don’t care, plenty of other options!

Food was made fresh, excellent service. The chicken was so moist and flavorful. The free chips and salsa was actually very yummy too!

This is a Mexican restaurant. I’m from San Antonio so the bar is quite high for Mexican. The food is adequate. Run of mill. I had enchiladas suizas and at $ 8.95 for the plate it was a decent value. I was brought chips that seemed authentic. I hate factory chips. These appeared to be actual corn tortilla that was fried up. They were cold and seemed stale. Good chips can tip a average meal up a level. Waiters don’t speak English… This is the Valley. Read where the tortillas were excellent… none were provided. I ate here because it was close to the Comfort Inn where I was staying.

Been coming here for years… love it to death. Fresh tortillas, tasty salsa, and awesome drinks! Breakfast is served all day it’ll just cost an extra dollar after 11am. Favorite dish is their chilaquiles con huevos and their chimichanga! I recommend! One of my fav restaurants of all time!

Great breakfast and good lunch specials. If you want a good solid Tex Mex food joint then this is the place. Fresh tortillas, fresh salsa casera and fresh food coming out of the kitchen. It’s on the way to the courthouse on Closner, you can’t miss it.

I’ve only had breakfast here, and I’d recommend sticking to that. If you want solid tacos, huevos rancheros, chilaquiles, and constant refills on your cup of coffee this is the place. This is a must when I come visit my family in Edinburg.

Great place for Mexican that is not overpriced. Tried their beef enchilada plate and sampled the carne guisada which were 5 stars. Only giving 4 stars because music was a little too loud and server gave adequate service.

This is my favorite restaurant in Edinburg and maybe even the entire Rio Grande Valley. It’s super cheap, the service is quick and friendly, and I can always count on an abundant and satisfying meal. Their tortillas are homemade, their chips and salsa bottomless, and their iced tea brewed to perfection. You really can’t get better than this in the Edinburg area. My personal favorites: Chilaquiles w/egg for breakfast(ask for«papita rayada» instead of potatoes) Caldo Tlapeno Pechuga Gratinada**** ****my all time favorite

Delicious!!! I love the cheese enchiladas here! My favorite cheese enchiladas, so far, in the valley! My fiancé always gets some breakfast plate he loves. This is definitely a regular for us!
