My girlfriend and I went to dinner with her parents at Sal’s Family Style restaurant on a rather slow Tuesday evening. We went in and were very warmly met, which never gets old, at a good-hearted Italian restaurant. Sal the owner greeted us as he was leaving, and said we would not be disappointed. We sat at a large four top with great space, which I always like, as I never know how much food I’ll be inclined to have in front of me at one time. Server was very polite and knowledgeable. Brought us bread, butter and garlic oil. He offered to split family style plates because we wanted an array of what Sal had to offer, this being our first time. Half plates were still monstrous! They give you a ton of food for a very reasonable price, and best part is the food was great! We could not finish one plate. We had crab cakes and garlic bread for antipasta, mesclun salad, penne in vodka, veal parm, chix parm, and rigatoni. I tend to avoid doggy bags, but at Sal’s it’s worth it. I ate Veal for lunch the next day, and still couldn’t complain. The only thing we thought might make our night better was if they served booze. It is BYOB, I didn’t think too much into it, until I wanted a drink for dessert, so plan ahead! Sal was correct, we certainly were not disappointed. affiliate.

Overall this place was pretty good for the amount of money spent, however… Once we were seated we noticed the silverware and glassware were both very dirty. Also. the«pizza» bread was freezing cold and the napkin covering the bread was gross looking. It felt as if we were sat at a table that was not cleared yet, but it was. When a glass/fork is dirty ON the table, it really makes you wonder what the kitchen looks like. In anyevent, we had it cleared off and replaced and the rest of the meal was good. Food: Hot Antipasto — Eggplant parm, stuffed mushrooms, clams oreganato, fried shrimp, mussles. This was good and was plenty of food for all. The mushrooms and eggplant were my two favorites. Chicken Parm: Huge portion. Enough for 5 – 6 people. This came recommended and was pretty good. Nice and tender. Penne and Vodka: Again, enough for 5 people. This was pretty good. The sauce was real rich and creamy, but the pasta was overcooked. For a family style restaurant this is pretty good. Next time I would prefer a clean set up on the table then this would jump to a 3 or 4 star place. I will go back with the family and will recommend it. Service: Lots of help amongst servers. We had multiple which was good. Price: Great! Cheap when you split it.
