It’s a very small and outdated laundromat. They don’t have large washers and the dryers have cardboard and tape inside them because they are so old. The floors are wet from the tiles. There seems to be a drainage issue. There are also people that live above the place. The only good thing is that it’s quiet at midnight here and it’s well lit. But prices are too much for such an old and outdated establishment.

Empty 24 hour laundromats are my spirit animal. Having gotten my first vehicle in a few years, tonight I reverted to making a late night trip this laundromat just outside Detroit city limits, a spot I used to hit up the last time I had a vehicle but lived in a building with no washers or dryers. I let my laundry slide until I have to do it, and going somewhere like this where I can knock out several loads at once beats the hell out of having my laundry be an all-day affair at my parents’ house or in the utility room of the apartment building my disabled shut-in friend lives in. Having to keep getting up to do laundry really messes up the flow of our movie and tv watching. The washers here are kind of expensive -$ 2.50 a load for standard size. There’s very few larger load size dryers. Half are out of order, and the up to 25 lb. washers don’t even look like any kind of savings from the regular washers, though. The dryers are large and high-powered, though. They take a quarter at a time, whatever it takes, and it usually doesn’t take too many. Especially if you play the game that I do and keep removing individual items when they’re dry, so there’s less and less work for the dryer to do. Two wheeled laundry baskets isn’t a lot for a laundromat this size, but when you come here at the hours I do it doesn’t seem to be an issue. They’ve got one television in the far back corner. When I visited it was showing a late night rerun of The View and Who Wants To Be a Millionaire. I listened to music on my phone. I had the place to myself for all but 5 minutes, when a man ducked inside to warm up from the cold. They have one of those«Smile! You’re on camera!» signs if that sort of thing sketches you out. There’s a soda machine, too, as well as a change dispenser, of course. It’s kind of a fussbudget, but if you finesse your wrinkly bills it just might take them.
