With memories of Matilda Bean’s yumminess, I headed to EP for lunch only to find Matilda had been replaced by Taco Rico. Ok… so I’m already here, let’s give this place a shot. Had the chicken burrito which was the lunch special for the day. They were out of spinach tortillas, so had to go with the regular tortilla. Ok, no biggie. The music was authentic, the workers only spoke Spanish to each other, there were plenty of people coming in and out so I thought it would be reasonable. The food was below average in quality — but the health board rating was good. The chicken was watery and tasted really bland. The pluses were the guacamole was made well and the cilantro was really fresh. Unless you have no other alternatives, I wouldn’t put it on the list of places that are a «must» to try. It’s a quick, cheap bite and will fill your belly. Walk three doors down and go to Thumbs Up or go three doors in the other direction to Oz’s Pizza for more pleasing alternatives. Or, go just around the corner to Lov’n It Live for organic foods.

I REALLY hate to bad-mouth a place that is so close to my condo and in my neighborhood, but… Ever since Matila Bean left and this mutated, quasi-Mexican hole took its place, there has been great unrest in the Southside of ATL(or is it just in my stomach?). Stick a fork in it folks – or better yet, keep walking.

The guys there are very nice and the service is fast but the food kind of stinks frankly. I’ve eaten a variety of things off of their menu but I have always been left either with the dissatisfaction of bland food or the stomach ache of overly greasy food. Without a ton of choices in walking distance of downtown East Point my co-workers and I often visit one place several times in a week or even visit places that aren’t very good. This place has become the one that everyone says«oh noooo not Taco Rico! You know you’ll regret it.» It’s not the worst in the world but it definitely sits at the bottom of the choices for me and mine.

What can I say, affordable, quick and it tasted good to me. Health score was 100 if I was reading it correctly. I have only been once so far but liked the fish tacos. I had several friends with me that ordered an array of dishes and each enjoyed them. I have to say that the chicken nachos were enormous for the price. Conclusion: good, fast, cheap.

I live in East Point and I actually really like it here despite all the people who told me not to move here. Anywho, I’m all about finding places near my home(which isn’t near anything really). So I tried Taco Rico and first the price is good, dare I say cheap, the service is also good, very nice, very fast. The food, well, the food isn’t great. I don’t know if it’s that I have a tex-mex attitude, but it was so damn bland. Put some salt and pepper on that mess. I had the fajita nachos which I don’t recommend. l also had a taco and it was bland as well. I would go here again, I’m not saying that, but this is not the place to go and get a bomb Mexican meal, it’s the place you go when you don’t want to feel like a skank by going to Taco Bell even though Taco Bell is better.
