Wize Eyes

I have no insurance, and needed a cheap exam and glasses. The exam was cheap, frames were decent, but they don’t pre-​warn you for how much the glass will cost. I left with a bill of over 300 dollars for 1 set of glasses. The staff was nice, and helpful though.

They just did an old fashioned «Bait and Switch» on me.
Their web site clearly says (in multiple spots): «Our Wize Eyes Eye Exam Is Always $ 18.00…Every Wize Eyes location is open 7-​days a week, and for only $ 18, you can see a Doctor for a complete eye exam. Other than just testing you for an eyeglass prescription, the exam is thorough … the optometrist will test you for glaucoma, cataracts and other eye diseases. «See

Update March 2015: Nassau Office of Consumer Affairs determined their practice violated FTC rules and forced them to refund the money. If found doing it again they face fines
But they charged me $ 39/​each for my children to get exams. And they couldn’t show me anything in writing or on their web site to justify the price. Nice attempt to trick a customer.
