So, Swagath has really been a mixed experience for me. I am very spoiled in that I lived in the curry capital of England for 2 years, where I could choose from over 500 amazing Indian restaurants. I have been generally disappointed in East Lansing, as I am also a vegetarian, so the range of offered dishes can be challenging. I went to Swagath for their lunch buffet a couple of times. Service is great and wait staff very friendly(as is all the staff), but the vegetarian offers were just ok really – mainly because there were only 3 dishes I could eat, and none of them included my very favorite: paneer. My mind was changed, however, when we ordered some take-out from Swagath the other night, which of course allows for much greater choice. We had paneer tikka massala and palak paneer and both were really good! We got a ton of rice with it and we ordered a delicious garlic naan too. My non-veggie friend also ordered chicken paneer and she absolutely loved it. So if you are vegetarian, the lunch buffet might leave you disappointed, but the full menu definitely has some amazing options for you.

Biryani was really good after they hired a new chef. The chicken, mutton biryani was very good. The starters were good too except for some items.

Cool buffet, can’t say whether I like this lunch buffet or sindhu’s better both are very good. Like 10 or 11 $ with tip for lunch isn’t too bad given what you get. Would recommend.

Pretty good. They have southern Indian food and their service/setup is very nice. I wouldn’t say one Indian place is better than the other in East Lansing, but this place has a South Indian option while the other totally nails North Indian food.

I’ve been several times to the lunch buffet, and it never disappoints. They have a few staples which you can count on every time, but there’s usually a new dish I haven’t seen before, keeps it interesting. Had some sort of shredded beet root thing today, looked unremarkable, but it was surprisingly good. Exactly what an Indian buffet should be. Naan there is so fresh and good.

Ok, I have been going to Sindhu loyally for years and decided to try something different since the reviews were so good here. I hate to say it but I have a new favorite. This is the most delicious, flavorful food I have ever tasted, each bite hits you with an amazing bouquet of spices. My only regret was that I didn’t get to eat as much as I wanted from the buffet because I got too full. I tried to get my husband to go back the next day but he wouldn’t or else I would have gone there twice in a row! You MUST come for the lunch buffet!

I love this place… the food is fantastic. We always get the gobi manchurian(it’s like sweet and sour spicy fried cauliflower and it’s absolutely divine) and veggie entrees. I prefer to order off the menu to doing the lunch because I don’t care for the vegetarian options that are usually offered for the buffet. Plus fresh naan is always better. The only minor thing is I wish they had mushrooms. I love a good mushroom mutter and wish I could have that. But that’s literally my only complaint. Must try!

After living abroad in Australia where Indian food is common cuisine, I am usually disappointed with Michigan based Indian restaurants. That being said, Swagath has definitely earned my stamp of approval. The only reason I don’t give a full 5 stars is because of all the delivery charges which usually adds 6 or 7 dollars to the total, not including tip. You are definitely paying for the convenience of delivery. However the added costs clearly aren’t keeping me from ordering again!

Their lunch buffet had a lot of variety and was delicious! The owner and staff were friendly and the seating was pretty intimate. I definitely recommend the lunch buffet and will be going back in the future.

Went for the lunch buffet. Nice selection. Very busy. Mom loved their food. It was good, but buffets aren’t necessarily my thing. I did enjoy their vegetarian options. Pygmy also brought me a spice tray since the Buffett food was only mildly spicy.

A friend took me here for a lunch buffet and it was incredibly fresh, inexpensive, and offered quite a variety of delicious items to choose from. I especially enjoyed the butter chicken. This proves quite decent for students, business people, and families on a tight budgets to feed everyone in a hurry. The downside was the stark and bright atmosphere and lack of intimacy for couples as it is better suited to cafeteria style casual chat than a romantic escape. Also, with the buffet experience there is a decided lack of interaction with staff which may prove annoying for those who like drink refills to be prompt. Otherwise, all was fantastic for the price.

Food: overall average. Sambhar, rasam, dosa not the best ever. Chicken biryani was also just average. Ambience: nothing special. Decent environment. Service: very good. Quick, polite and Price: reasonably priced. Stop by if you want to check this one off your list. Otherwise there are much better places nearby.

We enjoyed a tasty meal here last evening. Our server was very helpful and explained the various dishes. We chose chicken Tikka Masala and Paneer Tikka Masala. Both dishes were excellent, prepared to our choice of spicyness. Highly recommend.

Yesterday was my first time at Swagath and I regret not coming sooner since we moved to East Lansing! Their Chili Chicken is my absolute favorite, it’s a must try. Super friendly staff too. Being married into a Pakistani family, I tend to be picky about Southeast Asian food, but this was excellent.

I ended up coming here for lunch after my graduation. The food was ok. Personally, I find the quality of Sindhu’s and Persis to be better. Too many spices detracting from the taste. The poori’s were a little hard but they were sitting out for a while. The paneer pieces were a little too big. Flavors are decent. Overall, a decent place but I’d rather go to the other two in the area.

Fast and great delivery through grub hub. Food was hot and tasted great. Very reasonable prices for traditional and southern Indian fare. Would dine here again or order takeout. Cannot go wrong with good menu options and perfect taste.

Time for an update! After going two more times for the lunch buffet recently, I can say that: (1) their naan has improved – they are more like the fluffy ones that I like. (2) they now play Bollywood type dance music – I don’t mind necessarily, but it somehow doesn’t fit the décor or mood of the place. (3) price is still about $ 10 for the lunch buffet. There are two things that I really like now about Swagath. First, their desserts are usually flavored with cardamom and have been satisfying both times. The first time, I had a smooth and creamy milk noodle dessert(not sure what else to call it). The second time, I think I had some kind of Cream of Wheat-type dessert, which was also very good and just the right texture! The desserts are not too sweet. The other thing that I really like is their dishes that seem to be inspired by the seasons. I had a South Indian style curry made with bottle gourd squash, and it was spicy and delicious. While their standard Indian buffet fare(e.g., chicken tikka masala and tandoori chicken) are all right, I think the SECRET to Swagath is to try the non-standard, seasonal fare. Service is friendly and attentive. You can get in and out quickly during the lunch buffet if you’re pressed for time.
