I stopped by Platos Closet with the possibility of selling some clothes. The girls working were so kind and so friendly! They were only able to take one item but I was more than happy with the price they gave me! I recommend them for their great customer service!

Well the store seems to be stocked with youth brands I only get dragged into it because my girlfriend finds clothing there. I myself have found nothing in a tall size ever inside of this place.

I heard about this place when living in Chicago, and after purging my closet last week, I figured I’d try to get some cash before donating the rest to Goodwill. My selling experience was generally positive — the staff clearly explained the buying/selling process and invited me to browse the store while they went through my items. Of course they want me to browse the store. If they’re going to give me money, they want me to spend it in their store. Truth be told, I love secondhand stores and would’ve gladly bought some clothes if I’d found anything I wanted. First, there were far fewer clothes for men than for women(a point they note on their website to encourage men to donate). Second, the people who’ve been donating to this particular store clearly are college undergrads: half of the clothes are from American Eagle, and there are strong showings from Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister. Third, the men’s jeans are generally outdated. Granted, I only looked in my sizes — there may be some stuff that I would wear in the wrong size. After 10 minutes or so, my clothes had been checked out. They accepted 4 items — 2 shirts and 2 pairs of Express Jeans — and said the rest of the clothes were too old. Incidentally, they kept the oldest item I brought(a dress shirt from Benneton), but I’m guessing they liked the label. In all, I don’t completely understand what mystical process the staff uses to determine what to keep and what to give back, but I’m happy to take away a few dollars on clothes that I had just planned on giving away.

This place is hit or miss. The second time I came here, it was definitely a «miss» but atleast I did get $ 50 for a bunch of stuff that would’ve given to the Salvation Army anyways(which, I was pleasantly surprised about). This is definitely the kind of store that you need to keep visiting in order to keep of the merchandise.

I went into Plato’s Closet for the first time today after breakfast. It’s pretty new here and I have to say I love it already. I found out it’s a chain, but it puts me in the mind of Crossroads Trading Company in Cali except the prices are cheaper. I’ve been looking for a denim miniskirt to replace my favourite one since I tore it at the seam, and all the minis out right now are microminis which are just too short for me. I went into Plato’s Closet and found a skirt in my size that was almost exactly like my beloved mini for a whompin’ $ 5. I also picked up an old school Liz Claiborne bag for $ 8. The clothes are hip, high quality and oh-so-affordable. Perfect place to go when you have to find that«one» piece to complete your outfit. From the looks of it, they take a good variety of clothes too, unlike some other resale shops, just so long as it’s clean and fairly current. Addendum: Had to remove a star. I took clothes into Plato’s Closet to sell today, and they took a few items, but the one thing that got me is that they didn’t take a perfectly fine pair of dark denim jeans that had only been worn once because the brand was too old… the store that they came from has closed. Now when I was looking through all the jeans they had, there were about 15 different off brands! Grr…
