Sad times for cheese fans with fat wallets. Curds and Whey seems to have closed, the website is down, facebook page is gone, the other day i drove by the old and new locations and both are empty.

Firstly, this business has moved locations, and is now across the bridge in Tylerville. I was surprised to find it upon returning from being abroad for three months. I stopped in one evening to check it out. The woman seemed friendly. I ordered a cheese that was listed on the board and was told that they were out. This surprised me, as there weren’t that many cheeses on the board.(At least not compared to Fromage in Old Saybrook, which keeps their board updated regularly.) However, although small, it is a very fine selection. I was not so pleased with the selection of breads, and there wasn’t much else to interest me. But I was so happy with the Humboldt Fog I had picked up, that I went back the next day to try something else. The attitude of the owner had completely changed, and she was quite unpleasant. If you are looking for a great cheese store, I’d go with Fromage in Old Saybrook. A great second can be found in The Cheese Shop of Centerbrook, which is just ten minutes away. In my opinion, attitude makes a huge difference when you’re spending money on high quality goods and paying $ 30+ per pound for cheese. I don’t need to be made to feel stupid because I’ve never tried a specific kind of cheese.

This place was an absolute slice of Heaven. We saw it driving around looking for tag sales and antique stores. There it sat on the hill as we came around the corner. The tiny building is a beautiful white house, and when you enter, you see the most incredible collection of cheeses. The woman behind the counter was amazingly charming and literally fed us so many samples we couldn’t finish them all. Crackers, natural soda, homemade truffles and jams, also adorn the tiny adorable cheese house. We walked away with extremely delicious well priced cheeses, goat and cow, from different parts of the globe, rosemary honey with almonds and a spicy plum chutney. Well worth the trip, this place is a beautiful little step out of the norm.

The building is adorable, but the only things worse than the attitude of the woman who was working there was the smell. It smelled like wet, dirty animals, I would never buy food from here. Not only that, but a single serving soda bottle cost $ 3.75

I was so happy to hear that a place like this opened in my hometown and I made sure to stop in when I was home for Thanksgiving. What a fabulous selection! I had a hard time choosing what I wanted, especially since I was given generous samples of anything I wanted. Aside from the extensive cheese menu, they have a range of crackers, sausages and pasties to choose from. Yes, it’s a little pricey, but worth every penny!

Here’s a happy find for Haddamites(Haddamers?): the charming barn at the corner of 82 and Boardman is now home to a mouthwatering selection of local to European cheese, fresh and crusty loaves from Fabled Foods, a pile of organic apples and pears and an interesting selection of crackers. Owner Darcy Farr will assemble a tasting for a picnic or a full on party platter. This vendor has vision: the white-washed interior is furnished with antique fixtures and bee skeps; is this East Haddam or Provence? A feast for all the senses. Open Tuesday — Saturday, 11 — 6. No website.
