I’ve been to Suede before and it was great. But my second visit wasn’t so great. Not a good idea to go there on Valentine’s night. I was very disappointed

We went for their weekend brunch. I was hesitant to return, because I wasn’t too impressed with their food many months prior. Not the case this time! We ordered the coconut french toast = perfection(with or without syrup) Jerk salmon = cooked and seasoned well; the rice and peas were perfection(I detected a hint of coconut. Perfect texture. No clumps.) Their mango wings = yum Sorrel mimosa = yum Oxtail entrée = wonderfully tender, good pieces(not overwhelmingly fatty) Mac and cheese = yumm(surprising because I’m usually partial to southerner’s mac n cheese) Virtually no wait. I think it was around 1:30/2pm when we arrived. My only gripe was that our appetizer(the wings) came out at the same time as our entrées. However, we didn’t seem to wait long for our meal to come out. Our server, Natalia, was good… attentive, never pushy and/or we never felt rushed. She was also pleasingly patient, as we had a senior in our party that can sometimes have difficulty articulating. FYI: someone in my party can’t take spice. So she asked our waitress how spicy the jerk salmon was. I don’t remember the exact response of the waitress, but we had the impression it was on the milder side. Clearly, rating the level of spice is subjective. It wasn’t mild; nor was it overbearing. I enjoyed it very much, nonetheless.

Needs improvement. We made reservations and arrived on time. We were told by staff they wouldn’t be able to honor our reservation(I’m not sure exactly what she was reading on the iPad), and we left. They then call my cell phone as we are walking to the car, apologizing and asking us to return. Once we returned we waited about 20 minutes to be squashed in a corner. At this point I was already disappointed and annoyed. The décor is really nice yet the food misses the mark. The drinks were strong(it was well deserved after such a long wait), the service took extremely long. I ordered pasta, it lacked any seasoning and seemed to be thrown together. My bf ordered chicken and waffles. The chicken was decent. Overall, I don’t see what the hype is about. I definitely wouldn’t return. I do not enjoy waiting 20 minutes for a drink order, 35 minutes for appetizers and 25 minutes just to pay.

This place actually improved a whole lot since last year. The food is wayyyy better and less spicy than before. The spice in the food is very nice and bare able. The service is quite faster. My salmon was amazing amd flavorful, sample was on point and the dessert is awesome… With a hint on alcohol on there dessert

Good food, nice server, and nice space/ambiance. Overall the experience was really good with the exception of the bday reservation not working out which is why they only get two stars. We placed an online reservation the day of my bday for an early dinner. The bday person gets a complimentary appetizer, entrée and dessert as per their website. Once we got there and notified them of our reservation, we proceeded with placing our order and it wasn’t until after the entrée that we were told the reservation doesn’t show up in the system until a day later and that they don’t honor bday reservations the day of the person’s bday. Instead of giving us comps some kind of way, they said we can still use the reservation anytime within the next 7 days and to call to make sure that the reservation is good. The waiter said he wouldn’t recommend online reservations but all of this as stated is after the damn meal lol. Good customer service would have honored it regardless or at the very least comped something but instead they just suggested that we come back(and spend more money lol). Footprints is literally a block over and they’re always on point so me thinks not :)

I usually go to Footprints express and being I go to Suede often, I decided to go the the Footprints a block from Suede. Bad idea. It is loud, playing corny Drake songs and not the adult crown it once commanded. I immediately went to Suede. I have gone to Suede a few times. The staff is always friendly and attentive, more importantly, the crowd doesn’t make me feel like I a sitting in a high school lunch room. I usually get sides: SEASONCOLLARDGREENS and GARLICMASHYAM. Tonight I decided to go for CREOLEPASTAWITHCHICKEN. The first thing I noticed is that is was sweet and a tad spicy. It was really tasty. I finished ¾ of the meal before I realized it was jerk seasoning! It was tasty and would eat it again.

i visited suede for the complimentary birthday special that they have but was pleasantly surprised when i saw that they had a restaurant week event going on with a 3 course meal. The options on the menu were diverse and fine choices to choose from. We all had pina coladas all different flavors(mango, passion fruit, guava, and Sorrel aka hibiscus). These Drinks were on point and only one contained alcohol but they were all full of flavor. The Food: While the choices and visual execution of the food was great. the food was MEH. The Curry goat lacked robust flavor, the oxtail while tender also lacked the authentic Caribbean flare and the branzino which was perfectly cooked, did not wow me. The Service: The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Ambiance: While small, the venue was welcoming and great décor.

Upon arrival to suede on a Wednesday night, my party and I endured a 45 minute wait. Now, the wait, did not prove to be the problem, being that it was winter break and it was a popular restaurant. After finally being seated after our reasonable wait, a waiter spilled an entire glass of water on my friend that was seated besides me. The waiters were very inexperienced and lacked common hospitality, not even asking my friend if she was okay or even apologizing for the incident. Our waiter then proved to be very unconcerned with our table, never checking up on us, and brought us our food an hour and a half after ordering. A separate party came after us and was served before us, and when we asked our waiter why the wait was so extensive she was very rude in her response. Then when the food finally came out 1 hour and a half late, it was COLDANDHEAVILYSEASONED! The waiter was unbothered by our dissatisfaction and was not concerned with making the experience better for us at all. Finally, after asking to speak to a manager due the TERRIBLESERVICE the waitress informed us that she was to busy to assist us and she couldn’t help us with our situation. Also, the music was so LOUD! I was unable to maintain conversation with the people at my table. And when we asked the waiter to turn the music down, he turned it down, then turned it right back up. At this point, I felt robbed and wanted to do nothing but leave suede, never to return again. the overall experience at suede was very disappointing, especially since it was my first time being there ever.

I had a really enjoyable experience here. The ambiance was lovely. The décor was beautiful and the food was good. Started with the codfish fritters which were a nice start to the meal. The roti was just good not great but the chicken with rum/raisin waffle was very good. Random note: The plates were very large for the table and made for uncomfortable moments.

Suede is beautiful! They also have awesome little specials for the birthday person if you come in around your special day. My friend called and reserved a table for her birthday for a party of 8. Suede was flexible and had no problem changing the reservation as people dropped out and joined the party. We waited in the outdoor seating area which has a beautiful little fountain. We also had a few minutes by the bar and the cocktail table. Downstairs they have a small seating area with a table and plush seats. Perfect for a photo-op. I ordered the pumpkin callaloo soup and the vegetable roti for dinner. The pumpkin soup was so creamy and it was absolutely delicious. The vegetable roti had a LOT of vegetables in it and felt pretty hefty. My only complaint, it was a little heavy on the salt but very enjoyable none the less. I had a rum punch. Delightful. Strong yet sweet. Everyone enjoyed their drinks and we had quite the variety at our table. Our waiter was attentive and friendly and had no problem taking the abuse from my rowdy(but classy ;)) group of females lol We had a blast and the food was awesome. As a real nice touch, the chef came out towards the end of the night and had a chat with us. Asked how we were enjoying the spot and the food of course. That was pretty nice to meet the person that put all this hard work in to our meals. Needless to say we all had a really good night. The food was tasty and reasonably priced and I was able to find parking right down the street. Not bad for a night in Brooklyn. :)

Meh. Lapin and I came here for dinner. The place was busy but we were able to get a table. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and had decent music. We ordered the Treasure Island Sampler($ 24) app. It came with Codfish Fritters, Mango BBQ Wings, Jerk Shrimp, Street Corn, and Fried Plantain. Lapin and I bought agreed the codfish fritters was the best option. They gave us a generous portion of each. The street corn was weird — the coconut tasted like dehydrated bagged stuff; it didn’t go well. Lapin ordered the Creole Pasta with Chicken($ 17). It tasted okay — this sauce was a bit sweet. The chicken also looked old and tasted dry. I had the Curry Shrimp($ 24) which was a sad excuse for West Indian food. I grew up eating West Indian food and this does not compare. The service was a bit slow and inattentive. We were left several times nursing an empty cup and they kept pushing to order more food. Which brings me to my next point — we had to wait 15 minutes to order and our appetizer took over 35 minutes to come. As soon as we started eating our entrée came. Seriously? After we finished our app, you would think the entrees would make their way over… nope…the server had to go look for it. The food came out hot(I think they stuck it in the oven) because my rice was pasty and there was obvious side of reheating by the curry level. There was thin film around the edges of the plate. If you want Caribbean food, skip this rip off and go somewhere else.

Suede is a nice restaurant in the East Flatbush area of Brooklyn. Im a detail oriented person, and noticed all the extra steps taken by the staff. Two suggestions, PLEASE update the reservation system(on Unilocal) so that the 4−5pm slot is not allowed to be reserved. We ended up waiting for about an hour at the bar as a result of scheduling a reservation for 4pm on Sunday. The second suggestion is that bartenders are provided utensils to handle ingredients for the drinks! I watched the bartender use his bare hands to push mint into a glass for my mojito drink, next time I will complain. The vegetarian Creole pasta was delicious! We constantly had our glasses filled with water and it wasn’t unfiltered tap water(hand clap for that) . The atmosphere consists of dim lighting and loudness, but decent music. I will visit this restaurant again in the future as long as the service continues to get better and doesn’t deteriorate.

I went to Suede for brunch and the food was amazing. The shrimp and grits were perfect and had an island spin that made it extra yummy. The chicken and waffles were to die for. My taste buds were thanking me days later. The chicken was very flavorful and the waffle was soft and delicious. They have a great drink deal and offer 2 drinks for $ 8 so you can definitely sample a few different drinks on the menu. The space itself was pretty nice. I loved the décor. The space is actually bigger than it appears on pictures. They also play great reggae music while you eat. I had a great experience and will definitely be back.

I honestly love Suede. I only want to see this place prosper and grow. I’m from the neighborhood and it is personally moving to see development in the neighborhood. The food is awesome. The drinks hit the spot. The service is hospitable and accommodating(specifically Aaron, he da real mvp). But! 1. They gotta fix that B rating pronto! Call me bougie, but I don’t deal in Bs. Only As baby. 2. I don’t have a 2, but I’m just sad to see this restaurant’s original high 4 star rating dip to where it’s at now. That is all. Check it out still with an open mind!

So I’ve now been to Suede three times so I think I can now give a full fair review. I’m all for the upscale modern Caribbean food. I’ve been once for brunch, once for dinner, and once for late night drinks and apps. You can make reservations via Unilocal which I would recommend for brunch and dinner. Every time I went the staff was very friendly and attentive. The drinks there are very good. After two cocktails I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. For brunch I had the coconut French toast which was just okay. It was a good idea just wasn’t executed well and it wasn’t enough food. Luckily I ordered the cornmeal porridge as an appetizer. It was delicious. I would come back just to have that. For dinner I had the jerk chicken which came with rice and peas. It was pretty good. Not the best jerk chicken I’ve ever had but it was pretty good. I like that this place is open late because sometimes you have a craving and all your fav Brooklyn spots are closed then you’re hungry, sad and sober. We got the appetizer platter. Most of the items were very tasty. I didn’t care much for the fish cakes. I’ve had much better then were a bit to doughy. The décor is very nice. Each area seems to have its own personality. I like the music they always have playing and it’s at the right volume. This restaurant is a nice addition to the neighborhood.

First off i will start by saying that I had no intention in dining here. I was on my way to Footprints at the suggestion of my friend. We happen to catch a glmipse of this place from the corner of our eyes. We stopped and took a look at the menu before entering. I like the fact they have a hostess outside and not inside. It gives the public the opportunity to view the menu without intruding on other patrons. FYI: This is not a restaurant for hats, sneakers and baggy clothing. The hostess sat me next to the waterfall and all i could do was zone out. I was present but not present. The waterfall and the psychedelic lights took me back to a summer in Miami(in my Trey Songz voice) in the pool at the National Hotel. Bliss is what i can call that experience in time. I had to keep reminding myself its just a waterfall and not a pool.lol. Its not that big, but its inviting. My servers name is ANDRE. He’s in caps because he exceeded my expectations with his exceptional customer service skills. He introduced himself and took our drink orders. He came back promptly with our drinks and asked were we ready to order our food. I asked him what appetizers could he recommend and he mentioned the Shrimp. Something about the sound of the Pumpkin soup grabbed my attention. I wanted to try that, Andre said he never tried it so he wished me luck. My Pumpkin Soup came out with no visible Callaloo really… but it still was delicious. I mean slap your mama good delicious. For it to be 90 degrees out and i drank that soup and throughly enjoyed it says a lot. Id eat that soup all year around if its on the menu. Andre stopped by again to see if i enjoyed the soup and i told him its delicious. He said he’s going to go inside and try it right away. I asked for his opinion on the Wine selection and Andre was able to suggest one as well. The Steam Branzino came out and it looked like soup to me. I took one bite of the fish and swore i was at Canarsie Piers eating raw fish. The smell was horrible. I tried to be a good sport so i squeezed lime on it and the smell stayed the same. I picked around it and ate a few pieces of okras and then i just said hell naw. The cook must’ve forgot to use the lime on the side of my plate to season it with prior to sending it out. I sent that back faster than your head could spin and Andre was gracious enough to recommend the Oxtails. That came out in 5 minutes and i said yummy. Rubbed my hands like Birdman and dug in. That is what i called a comeback! It wasn’t large pieces of ox with no tail(fatty) the cook put his foot in that. The Mojito Lamb has a weird taste. I took one bite(it wasn’t my meal) and I said id never have lamb again. But to each its own. They had a few birthdays that night and the entire staff came out and sang happy birthday. Very polite staff. I would definitely return on the weekend which is said to be the best nights at this location and ask for ANDRE! And he’s a Chemistry student studying for his Masters. Lets show him some love if you’re present on the weekend.

Second time here. Still love it. They have a «Garden» now which is their new outdoor area on the side of the restaurant. You can vibe out here it’s nice and there’s a bar out here. You can wait until you get seated as well as snack on a limited app menu. Suede didn’t get 5 stars from me because they’re still really unorganized when it comes to the seating. I got there and was told 45 – 60 minutes because I failed to make a reservation. We sat in the garden and ordered drinks and tacos.(Side: those ackee and salt fish tacos are everythingggg. So yummy!) Our waitress was nice and after an hour into our wait she snuck us menus and asked if we wanted to eat our entrees in the garden so of course we jumped on that opportunity. What really gets me is that after we left and got into the car I got a phone call from Suede asking me if I ate already. Not calling me to tell me my table was finally ready after 2 hours! Lordtt I think they’re lucky I love the atmosphere & those mango wings lol Anyway make a reservation !!! & try those mango wings! Lol

I came here for one of my close friend’s birthday dinner after much talk from a lot of people I know about the popular new place in Brooklyn called Suede. Suede did not disappoint, I was actually pretty impressed. I walked up to the entrance and a bouncer type guy greeted me and asked for my ID, while the hostess asked if my party was there. I told them they were a few minutes late and they guided me to the garden/lounge area where I could sit and wait for my party to arrive. I like that they have this option because standing outside waiting for my party to arrive in a little bit of a sketchy area(it’s next to a tire shop) did not sound appealing to me lol. Once they arrived we were seated right away without having a reservation. The décor is really beautiful and we were seated upstairs. The staff is very friendly and the food came out in a timely manner. One of my friends ordered the oxtail pizza with mango wings and the other ordered the curry goat. I ordered the short ribs and sweet mashed potatoes as an entrée. It was $ 18 and it was good but not mind-blowing. The oxtail pizza on the other hand was absolutely delicious. I was skeptical of how an oxtail pizza would taste but as soon as I bit into it, it blew me away. I believe it was $ 12 and it is a must-have as an appetizer! The drinks could’ve been better but I have to admit they do creep up on you. I had the popular Caribbean rum punch drink which was decently priced at $ 10. My friend and I thought initially that the drink was mediocre and didn’t taste as good as we wanted but by the end of the night were really feeling the buzz off of that one drink. Friendly staff, good service, and good food and drinks. I will be making my way back here as soon as I get the chance!
