This is by far the«thriftiest» thrift store that I’ve been to in Durham. From the accumulation of random odds and ends stacked outside of the store to the«Twice is Nice» branded pickup that looks like it hasn’t been driven in several years to that just right thrift store smell when you walk inside(a mixture of cigarette smoke, dust, dead people – I’m sure making a guess here, I don’t really know what dead people smell like personally – and moth balls). And that’s just the start, once you get inside you are immediately greeted by little hotdog stand so you can get a dog and shop all in one(metal cans of relish, ketchup and mustard too!) And you can’t miss the fish tank that you really have to get close to and stare through the grimy glass that hasn’t been cleaned in who knows how many months to see, wait a second is the fish DEAD?! No, luckily it’s still living – for now. I think the pure thrift feel should raise it another star just in and of itself, but you can make your own judgements here. After being open for six YEARS now, Twice Is Nice is only just now getting their own Unilocal page, that’s how you know this place is good. The place is relatively small, broken up into two rooms with just about everything that a classic thrift store has, kitchen items, clothes, shoes and books, household odds and ends, etc. Items aren’t priced, except for the clothes, so you have to question if you’re getting the same quote as everyone else. However, I still felt like the prices I was quoted were thrift worthy. Overall, if you aren’t bothered by the smell and can see through the layer of dust, Twice Is Nice Thrift Shop is a great stop on your thrifting adventures. It’s grimy, dirty and seemed to have an odd amount of people working there(or could’ve been friends of the owner). The owner herself was very nice, greeted me when I entered and was quick to give me price quotes on anything I needed. I will definitely be returning to this store, I mean come on, it’s not everyday you find a beautifully crochetted for $ 3!
