There’s always a buy one get one policy on the rolls. It’s near the school and I always order the lunch combo. Not sure about the takeouts but if you are dining in store, it’s definitely worth it.

Their sushi are the best in Durham. When you go, ask for Ivy. She really takes care of you. The sushi chefs are very knowledgeable. I ordered the charashi don and my friend had the tuna lover. Tuna was fresh and delicious.

I was very disappointed by the sushi. It was very bland and tasteless. The tuna and salmon was not fresh at all. The menu is way too big but the service was nice… I wouldn’t return.

The sushi here is excellent. I’ve eaten here a number of time. Definitely more on the Amero-side of sushi over traditional, the only complaint I have is that the rice was still a bit warm when they served it, which is not supposed to be the case. Otherwise, I would have given it 5 stars.

Sushi love is close enough to West campus to walk to for dinner after a light day at school, but also recently I’ve been ordering more from them through merchants on points. Usually if I eat in I get sushi cause you can get buy one get one free deal on the special rolls which comes down to about $ 15 total for 16 pieces of sushi which leaves me pretty satisfied. Atmosphere is a very chill vibe like for friends or for dates. Service is okay. Beware though, if you want to split checks, it’s kind of a fiasco because they get really confused because they don’t split the sushi orders when everyone checks off boxes on the order sheet. Besides that, good place to eat with a few friends but hectic with lots of people. If you order in though, you DONOT get the buy one get one free deal so it’s not worth it to get sushi. Also delivery sushi doesn’t taste as good in my opinion. Ordering in, I usually get the katsudon or the pad thai, both of which I love.

I thought it was good. The place is small and doesn’t have many big tables or too much room to combine tables, but it is possible. Call ahead if your party is 6 or bigger, I’d say. There are some different roll options from many of the other areas, so this is a fine place to switch it up to every now and again. I can’t say that there is anything too distinct here. They have a small drink menu, but a few different options that you should be able to find something for everybody. They have a few small TVs if there’s a game you want to watch. Carryout seems big here, but I don’t know if the BOGO deal counts to that. I think it is dine-in only. My pregnant wife cannot eat sushi, of course, but she had a thai chicken dish that she enjoyed. It was pretty spicy.

Went in again for date night. As always, it was great. We have really missed this place, as we used to live within a couple miles and have moved away, so we haven’t been in a few months. They have done some major rebranding and it looks great. They have new paint colors, lighting, logos, glasses, flooring, booths, etc. We LOVED the lighting!!! It used the be dark(too dark, almost sad – though I don’t think I noticed so much at the time), but now it still has an intimate, romantic feel of darkness, but not at all sad. The best part is the lighting over the bar in the back. It reflects off the mirrors that were always there, but now the place looks so much bigger. As always, the food was fantastic, and very fresh. I’m always so impressed by how fast their sushi chefs are. I have been to places where I wanted to gnaw my arm off before my food came, and here you can barely get halfway through a(Thursday night half price!!!) martini before it arrives. Speaking of which, you have to try the speciality martinis. They are all great. I was sad they took the strawberry shortcake off the list, but they added some great new ones, like passion fruit and a pear one. Chances are they can probably still make the strawberry shortcake, but I was too intrigued by the new stuff to even ask! Our waiter was awesome as well, as always. I have never had bad service here. Even the hostess is so friendly and prompt.(And kudos to her for always being dressed to the 9’s in heels!!!)

I ordered takeout from Sushi Love today as it is in the same building on my office I ordered the Bento Box and selected the honey shrimp with brown rice, side salad, spicy tuna roll, and crab ragoon. I was a bit disappointed over all with my meal for the following reasons: 1) They did not include my crab ragoon. Fail. 2) The brown rice wasn’t cooked all the way. 3) The tuna in the spicy tuna roll was not fresh at all and seemed warm. When is sushi supposed to be warm? 4) They did not include any napkins or silverware in my tied and packed up to go bag. You could argue that it was my fault that I didn’t open up my to go bag and check for its contents among the very crowded entry way of the restaurant. Sure I get that. But if you are a restaurant and really on top of your game, you will make sure the entire contents of the order is in the bag before you ship it off to your customer. Even so, the food was just meh.

They recently change the décor color into Duke blue! Which is really smart move, considering their location. I usually go here for dinner or lunch in the weekend, but the other day I’ve tried their lunch option during weekday. They have good deal for lunch! The spicy noodle is delicious! Although I can taste the beef inside the noodle is not that fresh(I should have order shrimp in a sushi place). I want to update my review to point out that the service in Sushi Love most of the time is good. I have never encounter the rude waiter who gave me bad experience again(maybe this person is a temporary waiter?). The other regular waiters are nice and professional.

Awesome. Wait staff are super friendly, sushi tasted fresh, and there’s a full bar. Plus my bill was shockingly low thanks to their sushi specials.

Two for one sushi and rolls. I cannot go to other sushi restaurants. Good sushi and rolls. Their noddles are pretty good as well.

My husband and I frequented Sushi Love almost weekly when we lived in Durham, we loved it so much. We always had the same server and she was absolutely fantastic. The amount of sushi you get for the price is a great deal, and it was always fresh and great tasting. The sashimi was also always fresh, and they served you HUGE pieces. I’m so sad we moved away from Durham recently because we can’t find that kind of high quality sushi where we currently live. Favorite rolls: mango lobster, fusion, blue devil, the green one(can’t remember the exact name!) If I ever come back to Durham for any reason, this will be the first place I go!

Busy spot — the place was packed by the time we left which was around 9. We ordered a few hand rolls, some white fish sashimi and 4 specialty rolls The overarching theme was that the rice had been cooked with two much water and had been sitting in the cooker for too long. It was way too wet, way too soft without any bite. It made the seaweed paper soggy and the rolls did not hold well. Ultimately the texture of the rolls was unappetizing and to make matters worst there was way too much mayonnaise based sauce/topping on almost everything. I had heard good things, but I didn’t not taste anything particularly good this evening. Maybe next time?

Multiple New Englanders and local people recommended this place to me. I’m sad to say that I wasn’t impressed. I am sure that this is probably the best sushi in Durham but it didn’t hit my sushi craving. We ordered the Blue devil roll, Durham cares roll, volcano roll, and I requested a version of a 49er roll(salmon, avocado, lemon slice). Food is decent, nothing special, nothing amazing. I probably will go to other sushi places to see if they are any better.

I think this is a good sushi spot in the surrounding area near Duke U. They’ve got the usual budget friendly BOGO sushi deal along with other specials each day of the week. I enjoyed the fried oyster roll and I can’t remember what my second roll with that was, but not really worth mentioning if I can’t remember it anyway :). Good sushi at a good price= A+ in my book. Will definitely be back for my sushi fix!

So I live 45 minutes away from this restaurant which makes me sad because it is, to date, my favorite place in life so far to eat sushi. Everyone that I have ever taken here express the same sentiments! I get the Fusion Roll always!!! It comes out warm and fried(I know, okay technically not sushi exactly but it’s amazing) my mouth is water just typing this! The Insane Eel is out of sight too. A lot of times eel can be a little fishy but somehow here it is really not, maybe a little on the end but this roll is amazing also!

I came in for a lunch meeting down the street from work and didn’t have to wait for a table at all. The reason to go to Sushi Love is the Buy 1, Get 1 Free Specialty sushi rolls. I decided to get 2 rolls: The Duke Blue Devil and Rainbow Roll with a bowl of miso soup. Both rolls were pretty good and decent size, so I was satisfied. I paid $ 13 for both rolls, which I thought was great. However, I thought the miso soup was just okay. I don’t eat out too often for lunch, so I can save money. But nice to know a decent sushi spot is walking distance from my work.

Sushi Love satisfies my expectations of asian food in Durham but those are very high. I did have a positive experience when I went with my friends for a weekend dinner, though that was largely because of my friends and the bustling ambiance than the food. Sushi love is definitely crowded on a weekend night, which makes sense considering how few sushi options are actually around. Plus, with the buy one get one deal, rolls are very cheap(about $ 13 for two after the deal). I ordered the Victoria secret(no rice) and TNT. Both were decent, though I was expecting more than five pieces for the former. Oh well. As many others have iterated, it’s not mind-blowing, but it will satisfy a sushi craving. One thing to note: if ordering bogo sushi, they will charge for the most expensive rolls. So if you’re in a large group all ordering sushi, be prepared to pay for all of the most expensive ones.

The last time I went to Sushi Love was in 2009. I decided to revisit it this week with my hubby. It took us awhile to be seated even though it was a Wednesday night and the restaurant was not crowded… maybe they were short-staffed that night? We also waited for awhile at the table for our waitress to come by to take our order, but service picked up later on and we got our food quickly, and our waitress checked on us a few times. Initially we ordered 4 sushi rolls to take advantage of their buy-one-get-one-free daily deal, and the Saigon Street noodles. When we gave our waitress the order, she told us that the the way it works is that the higher price is always charged if we order rolls of unequal prices. For example, we wanted to order two $ 13 rolls and two $ 8 rolls. She told us we would be charged $ 26 for the 4 rolls because they calculate it as if we are paying for two $ 13 rolls and getting the $ 8 rolls for free… which surprised us. We decided to just get four $ 13 rolls since we were going to be charged the highest price anyways. The Saigon Street noodles were delicious: marinated beef with bean sprouts, spring rolls, roasted peanuts, rice noodles and vinaigrette on the side. It’s not a big portion so I’m glad we also ordered the sushi rolls. We ordered the Blue Devil Roll, Black Widow Roll, Vegas Roll, and Caterpillar Roll. The Black Widow Roll(Soft shell crab tempura, crab stick, eel, cucumber and avocado topped with eel sauce) was definitely my favorite – the soft shell crab tempura was perfectly fried and flavorful.
