The Steaming Bean, in all of its glory, is located in the basement of an Irish Pub. Incredibly thankful to have stumbled upon this gem during my brief stint in Durango. Why? 1. It’s located in the basement of a gosh darn irish pub and it feels like it, too. It’s a beautiful thing. The Steaming Bean doesn’t try to be glamorous — it’s about good coffee and good vibes. 2. The coffee itself was excellent. This guy has HAD some coffee in his day(Blue Bottle in SF, Intelligentsia in Chicago), and my espresso heavy beverage was on par with some of the best I’ve ever had. 3. The service was great — the gentleman working behind the counter was professional and helpful. Bottom line: Don’t let the location or setup fool you — this is legitimately good coffee and an inviting atmosphere.

I’m an espresso drinker and I love my morning coffee. Steaming bean is rated high on Unilocal and the café has a cool vibe as it is an old bank that is set underground. I wanted to like it but both my husband and I found the coffee quite undrinkable.

On a scale of 1 – 10(1 being the Penn State locker room and 10 being a ball pit bar), The Steaming Bean is a solid 15. Graced with the best atmosphere in Durango, local art so hot it’ll make you steam, and drinks handcrafted in the most artful manner, The Steaming Bean is the best coffeehouse in town. You name it, they’ve got it. Groovy tunes, excellent java, friendly staff, local beer($ 2 pints/$ 6 pitchers during happy hour? Best deal in town!) and an atmosphere that’s tailor-made for studying and remote work. This is the best coffeehouse I’ve had the pleasure of loitering in. Try the Dirty Klein or the Jailtime!

Loved this place. We found it at the end of our trip to Durango and wish we had found it earlier. Cute and great atmosphere. Very friendly staff.

Coffee and pastry selection is good and the room has a nice vibe to it. Not the best coffee Ive had but not the worst either. Seems like a fun place to hang

The maté latté is not only fun to say, but it’s delicious. I enjoy going to places with great drinks and service. Thanks for being a place of relaxation for me while I was in Durango.

Think of that coffee shop where authors sit with their pad of paper or their laptop, writing their next book on the outdoor trails all around town. Lots of seating, a full menu of different coffee combinations to try, and a very casual atmosphere. That’s Steaming Bean. You can swing by for a quick cup to go, but you’ll be missing the cozy, comfortable atmosphere. Service isn’t amazingly fast, but there’s plenty of seating, free wifi, lots of art on the walls, and some big glass windows facing out onto Main Street for watching the passers-by. Most seating is inside, but there are a couple little tables outside too, for anyone who wants to enjoy the morning sun. This is definitely a coffee shop — don’t expect to find a lot of food. There are plenty of diners and places for a meal just a block or so away.

Best espresso I have had in a long time. Met a nephew for coffee. We got there just as they were opening their doors. We had wanted to sit outside but as we were there as they opened they had not yet set up the outside seating. Met a very nice energetic lady at the counter. I always do three shots of expresso with 1.5 inches of steamed heavy cream. Unfortunately they did not have heavy cream so I chose to use half and half. This worked fine and the drink was good enough I came back later in the day and had another drink. I have read some mixed reviews for Steaming Bean and I guess sometimes it depends on who waits on you or what you order. My drink was excellent and the service could not of gotten much better. I will definitely stop in on my next trip through the area.

I’m from out of town and wish Steaming Bean was in my area. Spacious facility, great coffee, food and other options. I love my Skinny Vanilla latte — WHEN it is made a specific way. Each new coffee place I order my fav drink, I take a risk of waisting my $. Not at Steaming Bean.

Fair prices, but an atmosphere that’s probably not for everyone. We got our drinks and left, but if you want a place to sit and work on your screenplay this might be right up your alley. Coffee was delicious, barristas were more interested in talking to each other than taking our order.

Overall I had a good experience. I was just driving through town and had to do some work on my computer. Good music and good service. Lots of seating but was very busy. I could work here everyday if I had the option.

After a great week of camping in Durango, we decided to head downtown for a cup of coffee and a meal. We chose the Steaming Bean and were not disappointed. We ordered a cup of their freshly roasted coffee a mocha and a smoothie. Each beverage was delicious and the service was great! Thanks!

The Bean has been around a good long while for a reason. Free wi-fi. Plenty of seats. A bean grinder for fresh beans you purchase. A massage expert with a chair on site to help you unwind. Local flair. Locals. Tourists like me who used to be locals. We know that this is the place. Get your grind on and down a fresh cup of morning nectar here, then buy some to take home. That’s how I do it. In fact, I’m drinking a cup of Mountain Harvest in Chicago right now. Cheers! — Thanks Steaming Bean!

This place has a nice ambiance and they are super friendly, but it seems like they have new baristas every week and this time she didn’t know how to make a drink. We got a cappuccino and latte and they were both awful. Next time it’s Durango Joes for us.

Yummers !!! for sure, I just loved this place when I lived in dusty Bloomfield, NM. A big trip to Durango was quite a treat and so I got to do all my ‘fancy’ things when I came into town. Grabbing a great cup of excellent coffee and a sweet scone were about the highlight of my day, but I often also would take in other assorted activities such as AA meetings down the street or drawing at the art studio in town. Or getting my hair done, or buying some socks, or a poster or some beads or any other of 100 other fun and neat things you can do in Durango. Nice atmosphere here, and friendly people. Sometimes people seem zoned out and a little depressed on their computers at the Large Coffee Chain, but here they are laid back and alive. Very engaging and I liked the art work on the walls, for sure. Yeah! PS — My ID picture is from 160 heading west on the way into Mancos, I miss the Four Corners !!!

This place is amazing !! If you are from out of town make sure to check it out! The owner is smoking hot and a total doll!!! She is really willing to give people awesome advice about things to do in town. They have delish coffee and gluten free treats which is great for me !! Also they have an amazing Chai with Jameson in it SOFREAKINGGOOD !! They also have really cheap pints from a micro-brewery in town called Ska brewery. T The atmosphere is also very cute and inviting the staff is super friendly. I can not overstate how nice of a place this is.

Great little internet coffeehouse. The sign on the window says, Internet Café. The internet is fast, free, and easy to use. The staff is okay with people hanging out for a while, working on their computers. The coffee is good. I believe it’s a Colorado roaster, but am not sure. You help yourself to creams and sweeteners at the end of the bar. The food is pretty good. Last time, I had the soup and sandwich. I had the veggie sandwich, and it was delicious. I tried the potato leek soup, which was billed as thick and creamy, but really, it wasn’t very good. It was pretty thin, and somebody had used a very heavy hand to dump dry herbs on the top. Not good. I ate most of it, but only because I was really really hungry. I wouldn’t order that again. The staff is very friendly. The woman’s restroom is clean and decorated with different literary sayings on the wall. I thought that was a nice touch. This is a terrific little coffeehouse.
