I ordered the fried chicken and it was AMAZING! As others have said the cornbread was bland, tasted like nothing. My wife had the fried Mullet and it too was awesome! It was really hit or miss the fried were nothing spectacular. I’d go back for a gamble but everything on the menu is not great. The service was excellent.

Delicious Fried Oysters!!! If you’re a fan, you know they are hard to find around Tampa Bay. You have your choice of an appetizer or full meal. Loved the lightweight batter, cooking temperature spot on and their tarter sauce was delicious for dipping, yet not your usual tarter sauce. And the service was friendly and prompt. I’ll be back, for sure!

If anyone is thinking about eating at the fish camp, a restaurant in Dunedin, FL you will be sorry, the worst food me and my family has ever eaten. Any thing fried was swimming in grease, we ordered appetizers jalapeño poppers that was a raw jalapeño pepper sliced in half stuffed with pimento cheese and wrapped in a piece of bacon awful the hush puppies where hard and very dense made only of it might have been cornmeal with some kind of green things in it the coleslaw swimming and vinegar no mayo unlike any coleslaw I have ever eaten the manager a young blonde girl was very hesitant to give us any kind of a discount after we had complained three or four times the Fried Chicken wasn’t even done it was still bloody in the middle and of course bloating in Greece so there you have it don’t eat there it’s horrible please take my word for it and save your money

Love love love this place! From the service to the food and prices for food/drinks during 3 $ Island Time(Happy hour, everyday 3 – 6) I was very impressed! Server and host greeted me right away and took drink order quickly. Server always had a big smile and was attentive. I was here on a slow Sat afternoon around 3:30, but business picked up as I ate. The island time food menu was and creative, everything on it is only $ 3 including all drafts, sangria, mule, and house wine. I ordered the deviled eggs, jalapeño poppers, oyster shooter and hogfish slider with Moscow Mule. The slider and oyster shooter were my favs and the fresh/not fried jalapeño poppers wrapped in bacon were a close 2nd, spicy is tough for my tummy :/these are medium spicy. Owner did an awesome renovation job, using wood for bar and walls from the old Dunedin pier, same owners as Old Bay Café at dock! He was sitting at the bar with customers most of the time, pretty laid back and fun guy. So good!!!

Superior food. Friendly wait staff. Fun to sit on the porch and watch the cars drive to main street. Our new favorite place. Just don’t order a mixed drink — we’ve tried three kinds and they were all undrinkable. Decent beer selection.

Service was very friendly. I have read some complaints about the noise but found the atmosphere pleasant and inviting. We tried a variety of southern staples, from fried chicken to mac n cheese, and I think to sum it up best this place would be better served as a seafood restaurant and should probably drop«southern» from the tag line. Their current offerings remind me a lot of when Sea Dog opened, southern classics reinterpreted by chef /chefs that don’t understand southern cooking. To open a southern themed restaurant in the south, you need to have a solid understanding of the basics. To get the lowest point of the meal out of the way, the cornbread is inedible. Ours actually had a hollow pocket in the middle and the texture of what remained can best be described as dense and rubbery. Possibly the root of this recipe was for cast iron corn sticks? I’m just trying to help out, I really can’t imagine what went wrong there. The fried oysters were good. They tasted fresh and they had a good flour based batter. The hush puppies were not as bad as the cornbread but were also were dense & lacked flavor other than a slight a fishy taste which we weren’t sure was intentional. Mac and Cheese seems beer cheese based and wasn’t «bad», its just not good either. Essentially everything else fell somewhere between the mac n cheese and the hush puppies. Might try it again if they change the menu, but the southern angle really isn’t working IMHO when basics like cornbread, hush puppies and grits are so far off. There’s no unique spin or take on any of those three items, they are served as straight forward and as plain as you can make them, and they are just horrible. Sorry.

Definitely would eat here again. The service was great which is rare. Our table ordered hush puppies, they were good but they could have been a bit sweeter though. I had the grouper sandwich which was good along with the fries that were really good. I also tried the mussles and a bite if the peanut butter pie, all good.

Well, the beer was cold and they DID have a variety of local breweries on the list, but as many others have said, «it’s average at best!» Oh, and skip the grouper bites, they aren’t worth the trouble(too many bones)! My gf had the buttermilk chicken sandwich w/fries. She said the sandwich was good and the fries were, fries. I had the cod w/a side of greens. The cod was very good, but the greens were bland, more than I’ve had elsewhere. I’ve had better. All in all, it’s a fish house trying to make it in Dunedin. This review is a personal review of the food, the service was great. So, take it for what it’s worth!

We’ve been twice and both times the food was awesome, the service superb, and the beer list excellent. Had yellow tail snapper this visit– fresh and yummy! The sides are amazing too. Have had their corn bread, Mac and cheese, and greens. All delicious. This place is a true gem in Dunedin!

I had an excellent Po Boy, one of the better ones I can remember eating anywhere. My wife had a fried whole snapper, which most sea food places don’t do. The waiter was nice and attentive. The Virginia oysters were really good too.

Amazing! The best oysters I’ve had in years. Pelican reef. Omg. We also tried the grouper wings. Delish! Great selection of local beers as well. For the rest of the meal… Lol… There was so much to choose from. We chose the fried chicken, hogfish and soft shell crab. Everything was so great, this has become our go to seafood place. And Shannon was a great server!

I’ve been here a few times now the service is always great. They make us feel welcomed everytime we go. The atmosphere is nicely done Southern Fish House is what i call it. Bright clean and new with a weathered touch. Craft beer list is one of the best, great brews from lots of local breweries. Food is expertly prepared, always hot and fresh. Some of my favorites are the S&P(salt and pepper) fried shrimp, fried chicken and Hog snapper. Don’t forget to try the coleslaw, most restaurants overlook the small things, not these guys.

Saw some high prices here on everything so I just stuck with some local oysters and a cold beer. Think my bill was still over twenty bucks to twenty five bucks. Other than that the folks working here were super nice and down to earth.

Strolling down ALT19 looking for a place to fill our fat bellies when La Chica blurts out, «Fish Camp!» So we hastily pull in, park and grab a seat at the bar. First thing that hit me was the décor – 100% classic Florida seafood joint. I mean, it felt like the #1 place to be for some foods of the sea. I ordered up a hogfish sammich and subbed out the fries with cole slaw. The sandwich included both cheese and bacon, which I had never seen done before, but it worked. I found it to be very tasty, but I felt like the filet was a little on the thin side for its $ 13 price tag. Basically, if it wasn’t a sandwich, I might not have gotten full. Cole slaw was also very good, and definitely made in-house. Pretty good beer selection that included some local favorites from Coppertail to Dunedin Brewery, plus all of the domestic usual suspects like Victory and Yuengling. Overall, I really liked this spot and definitely look forward to returning.

Craving fish and outdoor seating, we stopped by Hog Island Fish Camp on a Saturday night around 7. We were quoted about a 30-minute wait, so we grabbed a drink at the bar(quite challenging, I will say) and waited outside. I ordered a blackened hogfish sandwich(no bacon or cheese, extra avocado) and hubs got the strawberry salad. We waited a long time for our food. Dishes arrived and I received a blackened hogfish sandwich with bacon and cheese, no avocado. #fail. I asked for some avocado and got 3 teeny tiny pieces and just pulled the bacon and cheese off. The fish was cooked perfectly and was super fresh. I definitely would not call it blackened… there may have been some blackening spices on there, but they were minimal and it was pan-fried, but it was tasty. The bun didn’t taste like a potato bun as advertised and was either dry or a bit stale. The fries were quite good, as was hubs’ strawberry salad(the large was a bit smaller than I would have expected). The menu was intriguing but appeared to lack an identity… everything from cheese/charcuterie to fried fish to venison and quail. But everything sounded good and the dishes we saw come out of the kitchen looked great. Service was mediocre. Our server seemed to be hard of hearing, which was a challenge. The best service we got was from the gentleman who greets cars to let them know the lot is full. He was a pleasure! I’d go back, but would probably order differently. The true entrees looked great so I’d like to try those.

I don’t know if it was the house long islands or what, but this is getting a 5 star from me. Came and and was seated right away with my brother. Ordered some house drinks and grouper cheeks. Great drinks and great use of the fish. Had some fish sandwich(a month ago) with the toppings and avocado and bacon and I couldn’t have designed the sandwich any better. Fries made in house and were tasty. Everything was great, no complaints. Will be back for sure.

I was told by my coworkers not to come to this place before the ownership changed. I’m glad I held out. I ordered the fried green tomatoes with shrimp remoulade. HEAVEN! Well cooked, well seasoned and incredibly tasty. I’ll be back!

First time here since it was the previous place called Sam’s, As we walked in there was live music in the very casual atmosphere, they have a very nice bar with some nice big screen TVs. They have a very good selection of local Beers, We ordered a couple of appetizers, smoked fish spread, hush puppies cornbread, all were excellent, for dinner we had hog snapper sandwiches, grouper sandwiches, and also the Clams with spaghetti, all were very very good. The service was excellent and the staff was extremely friendly. The main negative item is that parking is very tight, not many places and if you have to park on the side of the building it’s real tight. We will return again and see how the second time goes but thumbs up for the first time
