What a horrible experience I had today at Sam’s Crabhouse… so horrible in fact, that I just couldn’t wait to write the review up!!! Ok so I decided to get some sushi for lunch today, and I’m not familiar with sushi places around Duluth, but have passed this place a few times on my way to Walmart, so thought I’d give it a try today. WRONGIDEA!!! Well for starters, I should have seen the signs when I pulled up and not a SINGLECAR was in the parking lot… I mean it was 12:15, still a normal lunch time, and NOBODY was there… I debated why, and even thought about turning around and running, but decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt, and check it out anyways. So, I understand that their is a bit of a language barrier, and I’m willing to accept that and explain myself a bit more when speaking with the ladies who were taking my to-go-order, but they had NO idea what the hell they were talking about… so language barrier or not, I don’t think the service would have been any better. I asked them how many pieces came with their rolls(some places it’s 6, some places it’s 8), and she kept telling me «only 1», being that I know sushi a bit better than the regular amateur, I knew that couldn’t be right. So I finally had to break it down for the lady, and she asked some other server and then finally told me that yes, it was in fact 8 pieces. So I ordered, and got the shrimp tempura roll, which was to come with soup & salad, and it was a great deal(or so I thought). It was $ 4.99 for one roll, with soup/salad, or $ 7.99 for two rolls w/soup&salad. So then I’m patiently waiting for my food, and then I get it, and am going up to pay for it, and the lady is trying to charge me $ 7.99 even though I only got one roll, I was like HUH??? So then I sat there trying to explain to her that I only got one, etc etc… and she was all confused. I’m like I don’t get it… it says here what the deal is, and you know what I got, so what’s the problem??? Well it turns out, she was trying to charge me for the soup and she wasn’t even giving me the salad…(b/c apparently, they said that the soup and salad that is supposed to be included with that deal, isn’t valid when you’re taking your order to go)…ummm okay so why do you not have«Dine in Only» next to it… Then on top of this confusion, the rolls that I got(if you can even call them that), were a big mess… you know how the rolls are supposed to be nice and tight and have all the items within, yeah, these were not like that… they were loose rolls, couldn’t even pick them up with my chopsticks without everything falling out of them type of rolls. Needless to say, I didn’t enjoy my food one bit, didn’t enjoy the service one bit, and will definitely NOT be going back here again!!! Now that my venting is done, I think I shall go try to make my own sushi, I am pretty sure that even that would be better than what I got from this place… Haha!

Sam’s Crab House is located in the edge of the Wal-Mart shopping center on Pleasant Hill in Duluth. The lunch menu consists of quick sushi & sashimi boxes and some assorted tempuras. I decided to go with a sashimi box. The lunch meal comes with soup and salad. The tuna sashimi was some of the best that I’ve ever had and the salmon was very fresh too. For about $ 8.50 that was a deal. The dinner menu had various seafood items such as king crab and snow crab by the pound. The prices listed were what you would pay at Kroger for the crab at the seafood counter, which means you are getting a decent price after factoring in all the side items that would come with a restaurant meal and the time you don’t spend in the kitchen. Eel, abalone, sea cucumber, and other exotic treats were also available on the menu. I’ll will be going back to try the dinner menu some night since it looks very interesting.
