This venue was pretty amazing. The bar tender was very polite. The selection of whiskey/bourbon was exceeded my expectations. I could see myself visiting this venue again, especially with a exclusive group looking for a chill and elegant night. It was probably the best hybrid of a coffee shop and a bar that I’ve visited.

This place is pretty awesome! When you first walk in you can smell the coffee. If you look to the right there’s a room with cozy couches, cool wooden art on the walls, it pretty homey! If you go downstairs they have a pool and foosball table. Overall awesome place!

I really enjoy the atmosphere of Monks. I like the fact that I can go and get a cup of coffee or grab a beer later in the evening. Monks’ location is fantastic in the way that it is near the arts district.

Super chill, friendly staff, great music(mostly jazz). He’s got some good bourbon, too; but I was here early in the day. Oh — and did I mention comfy?

Best of brews in beer and beans, not to mention bourbons and other libations. Hip Bohemian aesthetics and a sweet space in the basement. Much larger than it seems from the façade.

Started day three of a cross country trip with a cappuccino from Monks. The brew was great, and if I didn’t have a driving schedule to keep I would have stayed a while. The gentleman serving that morning made it feel as if I was chilling in his kitchen… cool guy. Monks is filled with incredible art, and it is a «must stop» if you’re ever in Dubuque.

On my first time to dubuque, I stopped in here and loved the quirky cozy atmosphere. Great espresso and a fun place to hang out for a bit. If I lived in dubuque, I think I’d be a regular here!

Nice find in old town Dubuque. Comfy stuffed chairs, belly up to the bar and coffee, liquor, 80+ beers too. Good coffee. First name customers ~ almost makes me wish I lived in the area. Definitely will return. Forget the bucks head downtown. Folks, help the local owner not the fat cat in Seattle.

Very cool atmosphere. Stopped in to kill some time waiting for the art gallery down the street to open. Local joint. Cool stuff on the wall. Would def frequent here if I were staying longer, given that they seem to have lots of live music. That being said, this is a no frills coffee joint. I would have loved to order something here that I can’t get anywhere else. Menu is just the basics. But I can be into that too.

If you find yourself in Dubuque looking for a cozy bar with a good beer selection, Monks is your place. It’s in an old house and has a very homey feel. There are lots of comfy chairs, a couple of sofas, and a few café tables. I dug it and ended up hanging out there for hours.

This is not your neighborhood drive through coffee place that over-charges for a cup of average mass produced coffee. This is a really cool coffee dive bar with great coffee! There is also a small selection of high end liquors like Jameson and Hendricks, if that is what you are in the mood for. Lots of little niches to sit and enjoy your brew. My hubby would love this place and I can’t wait to take him in here for a java on our next run through Dubuque. The owner was super friendly(I think that was him behind«the bar») and the clientele is a very diverse group of people. Everyone is welcome. I would recommend this place to everyone visiting Downtown Dubuque.

An oasis in Dubuque! What a enjoyable and relaxing time. Many beer choices and not run of the mill or homogenous! A friendly staff and comfortable surroundings away from the meat heads down the street at the pick up bars. The only thing I can complain about is the TV behind the bar. There’s just no need! Anyway, My girlfriend and I enjoyed it so much, we went back after our hotel bar turned into a barfing Bön Jovi fest. I’d come back to Dubuque again just to go to Monks! Monks Monks Monks! New song. Just wrote it! :^)

Cool little place to have a cup and relax. I stopped in midday so my review is more towards the coffee house end of things. Eclectic atmosphere with tables and a bar and little niches where you can kind of melt out of sight while you share some quiet time with a friend or a book.

Amazing Coffee shop/bar/music venue. We choose to work here on a tip from a local walking on the street and what a great tip it was! We arrived to what looked like a coffee shop in a house, a very friendly group of people both staff and owner were present. We had no idea it was a music venue so the owner showed us the venue down stairs and it rules, real upright piano, good looking sound system! We sat and worked drinking coffee which ruled, and I loved that the internet password was«atleastbuyacoffee» which I thought was pretty classic! We stay here a few hours working so after our coffees we each got a PBR to finish the work today! The bottle of PBR and Coffee were both priced at 2 bucks. I love this place! And they were playing T-Rex records all day, so in other words I got into a pretty good groove here working!

I love hanging out here. I discovered this place about two years ago and it quickly became one of my favorite hangout places in Dubuque. It’s a great place to spend time, to meet friends, and to consume various hot and cold beverages.

Comfortable and friendly. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. If you don’t feel like caffeine or dairy, they have plenty of alternative options: try a Sprecher’s Blueberry Soda or a bottle of Delirium Tremons. This is a great spot to take an afternoon reading break if you’re on a site-seeing trip. Bathroom was sufficiently clean. Don’t hang out too long — you’ll overhear talk about who all the local drunks are.

A hidden gem! This little place has a won a soft spot in my heart. Great little place for morning coffee or an evening cocktail, yes they have a liquor license! They also do a great job of connecting with the local community with there art and music scene. Hope to be back soon!

Stopped in for a quick drink on the way back to our B&B. What a cool place! Small but cozy; even though it’s tight we wouldve spent more time reading there if possible. Coffee was great but not hot; it was kept in a ‘pump’ dispenser, which doesn’t insulate well. Otherwise, loved my time here.
