I had the Kake Udon, which was very very good. Boyfriend had Miso Ramen, also very good but not as good as my udon. Boyfriend also ordered a tempera roll, which I believe he very enjoyed. The waitress took a while to refill our waters, but other than that service was fine. I think we will be back!

As many have said, this is definitely THE most authentic Japanese restaurant in central Ohio. It’s the only restaurant in Columbus where you can order washoku dishes like onsen tamago and shishito peppers. That said, with the proliferation of new Japanese restaurants throughout the area, I feel the overall quality of the food, while still really good, is not as good as some of the newer establishments. When I got the yakitori set, I found the meat to be rather tough and lacking that strong grilled aroma that I might get from yakitori at an izakaya. The tonkatsu slices were a bit too thick, and I felt the flavor did not fully penetrate the pork. The ramen broth was fairly standard, nothing ground breaking or extraordinary. I would still recommend that everyone try Yoshi’s at least once, just to see what their menu has to offer and what washoku is like.

One of the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Columbus area. The sushi rolls are amazing and the chef is very friendly. I would highly recommend people to try here. Its environment is also good for friends to hang out.

My new Columbus favorite, Yoshi’s is amazing, authentic Japanese food served in a cozy restaurant. The wait staff and chef are very nice and welcoming. The food took me right back to Japan. This is the only place I’ve found anywhere nearby that serves Okonomiyaki, which is one of my favorites. The price is a tad high for some things, but very reasonable for others(like the Okonomiyaki). The sushi was very nice, as was the Udon. I would highly recommend this place, even over Tensuke market and Akai Hana.

Great place to get authentic Japanese food! Food: The food is delicious, sushi is very fresh. They have Japanese BBQ(on skewers) and I love it. They have a great selection of food and everything is delicious. I remember seeing they have special menu but its all in Japanese. Price: The price is a little bit high comparing to other Japanese restaurant so I had to take a star from this. Environment: It has a great dine in environment. They use yellow lights so its look very warm and cozy. I like the sushi bar area so you can see the chef. Staff: Everyone is super friendly in there, even the Chef! Overall, its a pretty good authentic/traditional Japanese restaurant and I’m so glad I found this place. Will definitely come back again

What a great find and definitely would not have known besides Unilocal reviews! Thanks! Servers and chefs were Japanese and almost all of the customers were also Japanese which I took as a good sign and was not disappointed. Also same strip mall has Windchimes Chinese restaurant and Enricos pizza both also excellent Great to have all of these close by.

A REALLYGOOD, traditional local Japanese sushi house. Not fancy or showy, just really good, really fresh, really authentic sushi at fair prices. Very highly recommend. Yoshi-San is very welcoming and an excellent sushi chef. His fish is always very fresh and delicious. Most of the customers are ethnic Japanese, many of them driving down from Honda in Marysville — a very good sign… That said, as an Anglo I have always felt welcomed and always been comfortable — something not always true at other traditional sushi restaurants. This is my «go-to» place for sushi in Columbus. HIGHLYRECOMMENDED.

Had a really great experience here for my boyfriend’s birthday. Food was wonderful, service was extremely fast and friendly. Ordered sake, gyoza, one roll, and several pieces of nigiri. Was a little on the expensive side, but worth it. Extremely high quality. I mentioned that it was my boyfriend’s birthday and the chef had the whole staff sing and bring us ice cream. Will definitely be back!

My boyfriend and I had an excellent meal here at Yoshi’s. We had come here for lunch before, but were glad to come back for dinner since we heard they had a decent a la carte menu where you can order several small dishes to fulfill your meal. They brought out their specials menu, which was all in Japanese, so we had to have our waitress translate. We still had to make a few educated guesses on what we were ordering, but in the end, we liked everything we ordered! Our waiters were very kind and helpful in recommending dishes and explaining how to best eat them(«eat the whole fish, even the head!»). Their lunch menu is very reasonably priced; their dinner menu is a bit more expensive but still cheaper than other comparable Japanese restaurants in Columbus. Yoshi’s is a small but cozy authentic Japanese restaurant, and we are looking forward to returning!

Visited here few days ago. Service is still top notch. Food is still good. I only visit maybe once a year now, because there are other alternative places to eat in my neighborhood. The owner is cool. I wouldn’t call it they have the best sushi in Dublin, but one of top 3 if are going there for a raw fish. My favorite dish here is Okonomiyaki. They make the best ones, and great sharing with couple of people.

I’m a frequent visiter for this lovely little authentic Japanese restaurant! Had one of their lunch menu yesterday(Ramen and Gyoza) and it was yummy! not a bad price either! Used to come here with my friends and we always order their Taco Wasabe(Wasabe raw octopus). Love it!

The best Japanese food in Columbus are in Northwest Columbus, mostly Dublin and the northern edge of Upper Arlington. They are NOT in the Short North/Grandview.(where you find a lot of fancy imposters.) Yoshi’s features delicious, authentic Japanese food all made by a Japanese chef. The quality of the food here is up there with Akai Hana and Ba Sho. The prices are reasonable, and the service has always been good for me… but maybe my experience is different because I can order in Japanese. Regardless, this place is recommended.

Went here for lunch, got the sushi lunch substituting spicy tuna roll for the California roll. This place is fantastic, much better than most sushi places in town, this one is the real deal. I’ll be back for more.

Another delicious hole in the wall type place in a plaza. There are only a handful of more authentic Japanese restaurants in town, and this is one of them. Even Akai Hana is slightly Americanized, but still awesome of course. The other two would be Ba Sho and Kihachi(a bit more expensive but worth it, their omakase — chef’s choice — was featured on Anthony Bourdain’s show). Anyways, back to Yoshi. So it gives a very homey vibe when you walk in. What I like most is their izakayas(Japanese tapas essentially). I’ve had some sushi, and it’s good. I don’t eat a lot of raw fish usually, but my friends enjoy it. Their izakaya menu is huge, since they’re served on small plates, they’re known as appetizers on their menu. And most things have a translation despite being in Japanese. I absolutely love their cod roe onigiri(rice balls) and potato croquettes(it’s called korroke on the menu). Seriously though, I haven’t tried anything that was not good here! I’ve never needed a reservation here either. It’s a cute small restaurant with enough room. Try it if you’re up for something traditional Japanese other than Americanized sushi(even though I love my spicy baked rolls). It’s ok if you are going with friends who like Americanized Japanese food, they have other options on their menu other than izakayas. It’s great that we have Honda in the Columbus area that allows us to have so many authentic options.

A local Japanese customer took us to this place. Very traditional Japanese Izakaya/Sushi restaurant. Good sushi, good tapas, and very typical Japanese service. There is an area in the front and back for private groups so it would be great to take customers or coworkers to have some privacy. Will most likely be back when in the Columbus area.

Yoshi’s is just kind of ok. It is one of the few actual Japanese restaurants in Columbus but I have to say I was kind of disappointed. I’ve never had anything that stood out to me there. Sushi to noodles, it was all just kind of ok. I would go back there but not of my own choosing.

When we first moved to Columbus, I would drive down commercial drives that had seen better days(Morse Road, for example) to find authentic Asian eateries. Obviously this strategy doesn’t work for upscale Japanese restaurants, so here’s a tip of the hat to the folks at Alt Eats Columbus for the tip-off on Yoshi’s. Yoshi’s is easily one of the top three Japanese restaurants in Columbus, along with Kihachi and Ba Sho. Which makes us pretty spoiled, considering we’re a mid-size Midwestern city. Thank you, Honda. Yoshi’s has a large and broad menu, but it’s the izakaya-style dishes that really did it for me. Happily, it’s all translated into English, although some of the names are rather cryptic and will require some explanation from the waitstaff, who are happy to do so. Even better, there are a number of daily specials(see my photos); make sure to ask, as they may think you’re not interested, and you’ll really be missing out on the dishes that makes Yoshi’s unique. Like Kihachi, you are best off ordering a selection of ala carte dishes, a mixture of proteins, vegetables, tofu, and others, and sharing them. The food is not quite to the level of innovation and refinement as Kihachi, but Yoshi’s is considerably cheaper, and it’s a nice casual atmosphere, the kind of friendly place you can drop in for a great meal. The kind of place where they know regulars by name, and the Japanese regulars have their own personal sake bottles on a shelf in the hallway(really). And no, Haiku is not a Japanese restaurant.

I really like Yoshi’s. I’ve been here several times for lunch and tried different items from the menu, and must say the quality of the food is consistently good and authentically Japanese. While there are a couple of good japanese restaurants in Columbus, such as Akai Hana and Haiku, I give Yoshi’s a slight edge for the consistency in quality dish to dish. I do agree, however, that the service could be better. It’s not bad, and everyone including Yoshi himself are polite and attentive. But at times they seem overwhelmed and may forget requests for more rice or water. Other times, the bill comes too soon, before I’ve finished my meal, which were it my first time there I would interpret as rude. In reality, I think they either need extra help, or better organization. But, for the mere quality for the dollar, I would have given it five stars.

I have no strong feelings about Yoshi’s, so I guess it’s kinda ironic that I’m writing a review — but I do have a few interesting(I hope) points to make. And one is that Haiku is dumb, overpriced, and yuppie/hipster, and that Yoshi’s is about on par and less pretentious. Oh and one of the cool things about this place is that there were mainly Japanese people eating here — so, that’s a good sign. I think my slight qualm with Yoshi’s is that it was a bit expensive for what I got. Having a slight tummy ache, I ordered a bowl of miso soup and the sashimi appetizer. The soup was good, not the best ever, but good — I got the mushrooms option, which I could take or leave. The sashimi was also good — it was fresh but it could have been fresher, and not that I eat a massive amount of food, but it definitely could have been larger for 12 dollars. The white fish in particular was extremely sparse. The service was okay — very helpful and quick at first, but when it came time to get the check, it wasn’t so fast. Ehhh… don’t know if I’d go out of my way to go here again, but if I’m in the hood and hankerin’ for some sushi, I’ll give their rolls a try and get back to you all about it.
