Big D’s Hawaiian Style Shaved Ice

3.5 stars… After a recent visit to Hawaii, I was in search for shaved ice. So here we are at Big D’s! The drive was pretty decent on this beautiful day.
After finally arriving here, the inside was pretty spacious compared to how it looked from the outside. I was greeted right away. The flavors were easily visible and so was the big shaved ice machine.
I settled on the Piña colada syrup with ice cream. The nice man said, I should add strawberry syrup. So I did and topped it off with condensed milk.
Good size portion for the price and the child size $ 3.50 was good enough for me. So how do I compare it to Hawaii? Not even close. The ice was a good texture of fine shavings. It’s better than the snow cone ice you would get at other places but the syrups wasn’t homemade, something that Hawaii dominated. I was hoping since Big D’s specialized in Hawaiian shaved ice that’s something they did.
There’s no fresh fruits or toppings, so that was a little disappointing. Overall, it made for a nice treat on a Sunday drive.

Went here last night since the kids got straight A’s and they wanted this as a treat. I have been here once before and I liked it. I have upgraded my rating to 5 stars due to the consistent service, quality product, nice setting, and good conversation with the owner.
Like a wise investor once said, invest in places where your kids like to shop. And my kids loved the shaved ice here. The shaved ice was great, the stands they serve them in prevented my kids from making a mess, and I was able to get a couple cookies to go with my coffee. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch until it got a little too cold while eating the ice.
I now highly recommend bringing your children here for a reasonably priced treat that they normally might not have. I also mis-​stated in my previous review that they were going to sell BBQ. Turns out, the advertisement sign was for the General Store next door. So don’t make that same mistake.

Friendly staff, large selection of flavors, and generous portions. Scoop of vanilla ice cream in the bottom, shaved ice, your choice of 3 flavors, and optional «snow cap» (we really liked their marshmallow!). We sat on cute wicker chairs out front next to a beautiful (fake, but who cares??) tropical plant with lovely Hawaiian music playing. My only wish is that we were steps away from the ocean…
Will definitely be back! Worth the trip out to Driver — you won’t be sorry! I wish I had known about this place sooner!

Our first time checking out this place. We loved it! Price seems more than fair to me. My boys could barely finish. Ice cream in the bottom, shaved ice on top with your choice of flavors, and topped with sweetened condensed milk or marshmallow. The inside is nicely decorated. Great service. Will be back for sure.

Owners from Hawaii but moved here to see the grandkids more. Opened an ice place like back home. It’s simple… you chose your flavors and they make you ice. They offer combo’s on the wall to try. Friendly couple. Seating inside and outside. Small parking lot.
They put a little ice cream at the bottom of the large cup. And the cup will tilt (!), so if you have kids ask for the holder. Then it doesn’t go everywhere. But if your child spills, they will replace it for free. NICE!!!
They do take credit cards. We like this place. But the price seemed high… family of 4 was over $ 16…so kinda expensive for dessert. We like it and will be back, just not often due to price. It’s nice to support the local Driver business.

I have been on the search for a place like this as long as we’ve lived in VA. Born & raised on Oahu & grew up eating Matsumoto’s shave ice. This is as close as you’re going to get to real hawaiian shave ice. Glad I found this place. :)
