As with the previous reviewer, I also had problems with Concrete Makeovers. It seemed like they had no idea what they were doing, as Rob and Ben tried one application after another on the floors in my kitchen and family room. After one of those applications(an acrylic sealant), Ben described it as «a disaster of biblical proportions.» Finally, after applying multiple coatings that smelled awful and kept me from using a third of my house for months, Rob just stopped returning my calls. The result is a mess that has since bubbled up, and I will likely have to cover it with some form of laminate or vinyl. In addition, they were always late, and sometimes never showed up at all on days when they said they would be there.

In addition to having the correct expertise, one of the critical features of a quality businessperson is how the client is treated when there’s a problem. In my experience, Rob Johnson/Concrete Makeovers does not possess expertise in installing a plain, leveled concrete overlay and the treatment in my case when problems arose was to deflect to the point of non-response. At each step of the installation, there were apparent problems: hundreds of holes in the finished surface; trowel, pour, and hand-sanding marks, as well as other irregularities; and a floor that began delaminating just days after installation, ultimately fracturing in some places. Rob asked me to trust him until he finished all steps. He said that a fork-lift could be driven on the floor shortly after installation. He also said that any other concrete professional would be impressed by and back his work. None of those things is true. Rob’s solution to the problematic installation, including notification that the floor was cracking, was to offer an at-best temporary and entirely aesthetic application of a tinted acrylic sealer, maybe comparable to putting body lotion on a broken bone or paint on a shattered vase. Rob insisted that the sealer would resolve all the problems and that he’d told me the floor might develop ‘pottery cracks’. Rob’s response now that the ‘pottery’ has actually shattered: silence. Rob asked for more than 30% down«to expedite the job» and required payment before the work could be inspected(after each application step, but before the application had cured). He also asked that checks be made out to him, rather than Concrete Makeovers. At least I know what I won’t do with a contract next time around. An honest businessperson would have acknowledged that the proposed work was outside his area of expertise or not possible for the particular application, if either applied, and would respond with an appropriate resolution when problems arose. Rob Johnson is not an honest businessperson and apparently lacks the breadth of expertise advertised under Concrete Makeovers/Decorative Concrete Makeovers.

Rob ordered products from Versatile Building Products using his customers credit card. The materials arrived 1 day late due to a Fedex truck issue. They proceeded to cancel the $ 2,276 order and do a charge back without returning the materials. Rob said he would make payments but we have not heard back from him since June. Unfortunately we will now have to incur legal fees to take him to court to get paid for the materials he kept.
