Had a great Valentine’s Day lunch… service was fast friendly and very attentive to our needs. Food is a little over priced and most menu items have little or no seasonings, due to the high senior citizen guest. But over all a great place worth trying.

If i could only give NO stars. We sadly had the worse customer service. The guy who was serving us completely ignored us to the point where another person had to help us because he noticed we were being ignored. My grandma asked for water and our first server told her«i am sorry ma’am i am busy with another table». I wanted to leave but my grandma convinced me to give them another chance. The place was NOT busy at all for them to ignored us. Plus it is a pretty old place, the carpet smells pretty bad and everything needs to be remodeled. NEVERAGAIN will i come to this place again.

Very good food and service. Has the nostalgic feel of an old dinner! Fish sand was light and non greasy! Iced tea is fresh brewed!

I went in to buy my mother’s birthday cake since she loves stox cakes. When we cut the cake we noticed it was two different colors. it’s was a chocolate cake so one layer was just darker than the other. But once we ate it. it was horrible it tasted stale the bottom layer which was lighter was so dry! There were parts of the cake that were yellow as well. The cake was just horrible. I know I won’t be purchasing any more cakes from here

I come here fairly regularly and the staff is quite friendly. The décor is a bit outdated but I do enjoy the food, the company, and the fact that I feel younger when I come here(mostly because all the other clients are a lot older than me).

Can’t believe people still eat at this place. Gross! Downey needs to get rid of Stox’s and get something better in its place ASAP

Old school since 1962. We went here for breakfast on a Sunday and we were seated immediately. The place was packed but the waitress took our order and our food came fairly quickly. The food was okay nothing spectacular but the service was good and fast. Now for all the haters out there that are complaining about how beat up this place is which it’s really not, stick with ihop and Denny’s. This place is old school and a part of Downey history.

Took 20mins and two waitress to take my order… Ordered chili cheese fries… not fries with beans and cheese… Still pretty good. Only reason for the low rating is the fact that the table seemed to be dancing every time I tried to grab a fry.

Going with 3 stars here but only because of the décor. It’s very outdated. Other than that, our food and service was on par with your traditional coffee shop but with one perk… they have a bar/lounge in a separate part of the building… woohoo. We’ll be back to see what that’s all about. Omelettes are delicious and potions are good. I would say if your in the mood for coffee shop food and you want to go a step above a Denny’s, try here.

I don’t have any real complaints about this place. It has a very old school-style type of diner décor, which is always timeless in my opinion. I would expect a true diner to look and feel this way. The food is decently priced and the service is very friendly. I was hesitant to order the eggs and jalapeño bacon but I think they next time I decide to stop by(there WILL be a next time), I’ll order it. Definitely will come again since it’s so conveniently close to my place but I probably wouldn’t drive out of my way to eat here.

Ordered the hot turkey sandwich & roast beef dip sandwich with au ju … Both sandwiches were bland and tasteless mashed potatoes were awful with some type of yellow gravy on top… The auju dip was cold and watery I complained to the server and she said«I’ll go talk to the cook and never returned until I asked for the bill… the place smelled old and musty, the booths had torns and ripped covered with gray duct tape… another old Downey restaurant bites the dust… avoid this place !!!

Agree totally with review from Ron 09.2015 I mean wow!!! This place really is beyond old, It’s nasty musty smell is remarkable soon as you walk in. Carpet is omygudnesssssss worn out & musty Business owners, pls remodel this place. I hardly want to sit on those dilapidated booths & yes sunken seats That really is not conducive to eating, We hardly can see our food on the table. Food prices are too steep for this kind of ambience.

They do NOT serve Lorraine Quiche on the weekdays, however on this particular early Monday morning they had some available. Needless to say, I was very pleased with the quiche and upside down pineapple muffin and have plans to order it again!!! Four star wishing it was served 7 days a week.

The atmosphere is nice and family oriented, the booths are a beige mafioso design, decorated well. Waitress was clearly over worked but she did a great job. Fish and chips are decent! They do not serve enought tartar sauce though. Diet RC is the replacement for diet coke or diet pepsi, not a equivilent. I liked the nostalgia, will be back again. Hopefully Al Pacino will accompany me. Lol

This place isn’t old. It’s beyond ancient. Maybe even prehistoric. Sunken old seats where my eyes could barely see above the table. Walls that haven’t seen a paint job since paint was invented. Rugs that are so old that they probably had a billion feet stampede over them. Since my friend brought me over here, I thought I would try the Stox burger(their specialty burger) which was actually very delicious. Consisted of light spread and meat that was charbroiled. Waiters /waitresses appear from the fifties in their attire but are very pleasant considering the place is very busy.

I have been coming here all my life. Stox never disappoints! Breakfast served all day long and. lunch as well. Place was packed on a friday at 940am. You can’t go wrong with good old fashion american food.

I’ve seen this retro sign soooo many times and I’ve always been curious about the place itself. So, I’m in town I haven’t had breakfast and I’ve got an hour to kill. No brainier, I’m in. It’s Monday at seven, so it’s dead, I get served right away and do a fairly complicated order. I get the scrambled eggs with jalapeño bacon– I ask for the O’ Brian potatoes that come with it to go-and a pineapple upside down muffin. The waiter informs me exactly what my small substitutions will cost so there are no surprises later, I like that. Eggs were what you’d expect, jalapeño bacon was the bomb! I couldn’t see jalapeños in it, but it had a kick! Four generous slices cooked perfectly. The«muffin» is a great excuse to eat pineapple upside down cake for breakfast. Served warm and delicious. Definitely a decent way to spend a morning and fill up on a breakfast that isn’t the same old thing.

Horrible management! My family and I have been going to Stox for about 25 years and after being loyal and dedicated customers we received horrible service from a young waitress there. After complaining to the manager and then to the OWNER, he indicated that losing one customer would NOT affect him… But for his information, it was not only ONE, it was my dad, my mom, my three brothers, my sister, me, and all our friends and family that we take and have taken through out the years. What kind of manager says that to such loyal customers??? Someone that does not appreciate customer loyalty, has an ungrateful attitude and foolish business practices; that’s who. So, it is with regret that I give Stox such a low rating. Some of the waiters there are the kindest and most helpful ever, while others are lazy, talkative and rude. The manager and owner are both arrogant and proud while allowing waiters to walk-over customers and deeming customer service unimportant.

The service is lacking. The host gestured for us to go toward the back so we went and sat at the only empty table and there was still a used syrup container half full and a used coffee mug on the table. The waitress tried being as attentive as she can but there were only 2 servers for the whole restaurant at the time. And all the tables were occupied. I used to work in a breakfast place and servers would typically get a section of 5 tables. Since there were only 2 servers it was a section of about 10 split between both of em. So you can imagine how hectic it must have been for the servers and how slow it was for us. After ordering our food, it came out quick. One of the other customer’s kid came walking in with a full on blanket wrapped around himself. Last time I checked this wasn’t a bed and breakfast. Should I have brought my own blanket too?
