Unilocal member for 3 years, this is my first review. I’ve been eating here over the past 30 years, and have slowly tasted its decline. My most recent visit, was probably the worst. While the service was good and attentive, the food is becoming bad and unsavory. Ordered an everything pizza… tasteless, and tough dough. The mushroom ravioli… while not bad, were swimming in tomato water. Not sauce, but red water. The antipasto salad, contained baby shrimp. A few, but none the less, not even mentioned. what if someone is allergic to shellfish? The only thing that hasn’t changed? The pepperoni chips. Delicious. For some reason, today I had a desire go there once again. After today’s visit, I can add this place to the list of «used to frequent».

The food is really good and fresh… But I mostly enjoyed the atmosphere and the service. Veronica was my server… She was prompt, professional, pleasant, polite, personable, and truly made me want to come back. I will definitely be eating there again!!! I hope to see Veronica.

Frantones has always been our go to for pizza since I was little. I still love the pizza and I loooove their ranch and buffalo sauce. However, the service And waitresses have been there since the dawn of time and they are beginning to lack good customer service. I can Imagine how tired they are of the same thing after all these years. But they are not very friendly… And neither is the owner the food is still really good. I just hate dealing with rude waitresses.

Came here despite the reviews the food was good and the service was excellent! The server was extremely friendly and attentive. We’ll definitely be coming back for great pizza & antipasto salad!

It was my first time coming to this place. My spouse and I waited awhile before being acknowledged by the person behind the counter(mind you it was a slow day and we were one out of 4 couples in the whole restaurant) after our order was taken we sat ourselves to be approached by a waitress. She wasn’t very friendly. Our food came out at a decent time. Ordered cheese ravioli in Alfredo sauce, Caesar salad and a custom pizza with pineapple and bacon. Food was ok, kind of bland. The only down fall again was just the staff, non welcoming and seemingly in a bad mood. Don’t think I’ll be coming back. Disappointed

After having not been here for almost 30 years I have to say the experience was much better than I could’ve hoped for! I was pleasantly surprised with the food and the service was great! I would definitely come back again.

The food is AMAZING! I’ve only been here to eat in the middle of the afternoon and it’s not busy whatsoever. I also don’t come in a large group. The service I’ve had the few times I’ve eaten at the restaurant is decent. They bring my drinks, food, and complementary dough bites. I can’t complain. I am in love with their pizza, and will continue to come back!

I have eaten Frantones pizza since I was a child it has not once been dissapointing. I have had better pizza but not in the surrounding areas. They give big slices and I love the crust. Pizza is there key point not impressed with much else on the menu other than appetizers. When I want pizza it’s hard to turn down fresh Frantones. I don’t rely on service when I eat out that’s what tips are for. The food makes me go back and that’s all I ask for.

Pepperoni chips. Pepperoni CHIPS. No no no, you’re not listening to me. PEPPERONICHIPS!!! someone introduced these to me over a decade ago and although I live far away, I still think about them. Sure I can make them at home, but its never the same. Therefore, every now and then I make the drive just for these tastey morsils. If they did lean turkey pepperonni chips for Paleo, I would never leave!

Review based on a Monday night Let’s go to the start. Walked in to a rather charmless welcome. You will wait by a sign and perhaps stay there for a couple of minutes before a waitress will want to acknowledge you. Get used to it, because you will wait again just to get asked your order. Food came out very quickly. It only took 15 minutes from the time we ordered. We ordered a Cesar salad, buffalo chicken mini pizza and a meat ball sub. Two issues: salad is not tossed in dressing. You might say«so what?». However, when the menu says its tossed in dressing you assume it will already be in the salad! Second issue was the meatball sub. Not very big and dry for a meatball sub. Positives: food was actually decent. The romaine lettuce was very fresh and chicken was well cooked and seasoned. The buffallo chicken pizza was perhaps the highlight. This critic does not like the onion in his pizza there for asked it without onion. It was fantastic. One down side was the tomatoes. You would think they were apart of the sause somehow, but actually looked like a slice of subway tomatoes on top of the pizza. A toss up for me. Some positives, so negatives but would actually come back for a second try. This place isn’t gonna win any awards, but as far as a decent Italian eatery, not bad. Three stars for now.

Warning: food is great, service is lacking This is my first time eating here and I was inspired to write a review. Im glad I didnt read the other reviews before deciding to eat here. I found my food to be delicious and satisfying. The meal began with a salad that was crisp and green. Only romaine lettuce, yet the italian dressing was thin and spicy. It is a perfect compliment, no corn syrup to gum up the works. The croutons made the salad complete. They taste and look like they’re made in house. For the main dish I debated between the chicken parmigiana and the lasagna. I chose the lasagna with meatballs and tomato sauce. Since the other reviews indicate the chicken dishes take some time to prepare I probably made a wise choice. When the food arrived it was hot and there was plenty. The lasagna was surrounded by tomato sauce and a large meatball sat at each side. The experience of having the sauce, meat, and lasagna adjacent, rather than a meat sauce poured over, was novel and enjoyable. The meal was finished with fried dough sprinkled with sugar. These petite donuts were not expected, a delightful suprise. The service was lacking. When you walk in its confusing. You order at the counter and then are seated. It took a while to figure this out and there was no one to greet or explain the situation. I stood at the wait to be seated sign and several servers passed without saying a word. I finally saw some writing on the wall indicating you order before seating. When I did order I asked for the salad dressings available. The lady at the counter said, «they’re at the bottom of the list». There is so much information on the walls it took me a while to find them. There were the four basics. She could have told quickly told me them with no inconvenience to her. She only held up the ordering time. Our server was great. Another review complained about drink prices. Only the prices of alcoholic beverages are listed on the menu. They might charge at will for others. I drank water, so no issue there. There service knocked Over all I would say don’t eat here during peak hours, the staff would most likely be rushed and rude. The food is worth showing up for and probably better prepared when there are fewer people for the staff to gripe about.

Best pizza in the entire world. These people are crazy. They must be lacking taste buds because this is the greatest pizza ever. 10⁄10 would eat every day

I do NOT recommend this place for the following reasons: 1. As soon as you walk in, the pressure is on to order. We have a large family with young children who’ve never been to Frantone’s. The person at the counter expected us to already know what we wanted. It took us a few minutes to figure out the menu. Instead of making suggestions or telling us the specials, she just stood there with a blank stare waiting(as if tapping her pen on her pad of paper). 2. We were not made to feel welcomed. When the waitress walked up to the counter from the other side of the bar, she saw our big family with lots of young kids and rolled her eyes as if letting out a sigh. She didn’t look directly at us and smile or say, «Welcome to Frantone’s» Also, the big lady behind the counter viciously yelled at my 3 year old daughter, «No running on the couch!»(I understand the rule, but the way she yelled was soooo rude). 3. They have hidden costs in the drinks. After we ordered, she said that we’d order our drinks at the table and pay at the bar on our way out. So we ordered 5 milks for the kids assuming they come with the kid’s meals. Nope! $ 2.50 a pop.(I could buy a whole gallon for that) ugh that would have costed $ 12.50. 4. The food is poor quality with poor presentation. At least what we saw of it. They brought the side salads and(disgusting looking) minestrone soup out within 1– 2 minutes of us sitting down. The lettuce wasn’t fresh and the pasta in the soup looked like Campbell’s chicken noodle soup. It was sloshed out over the side of the plastic bowl. 5. Their cooking equipment isn’t ready for service. We placed 4 orders of chicken fingers for the kids, but their fryer wasn’t up and running. The waitress apologized about this and offered us to either wait 35 – 40 minutes or order something else. Had they their wits together, they would have told us while we were ordering. This was the last straw, so I told my husband that we should just leave. And I’m so glad we did. I will never visit this place again. It’s dark, stuffy, dingy and the people working there are either inexperienced or unhappy. If you want some good Italian food near Downey, just go to BJ’s Pizza instead. That’s what we did!

If you are going to come here only get pizza. The lasagna and pasta taste like they are out of a can! This place used to be the ! I don’t know what in the world happened. Still like the treats at the end of the meal though. They almost taste like a churros.

Since I was around the Whittier area of LA County tonight, my friend and I decided to try something different in an unchartered area for food purposely away from our neck of the woods. We couldn’t decide right away what we wanted to eat, so we both decided pizza. Yes, the basketball playoffs of one of our beloved LA teams was playing during that time that we had to go somewhere with a TV. My friend has been to this pizza joint before with his coworkers for lunch and recommended it tonight. We ordered the lasagna with meatsauce combo which includes a side order of salad and garlic bread. We also ordered medium sized pizza with pepperoni, sausage, olives, and mushroom. And we also ordered two side drinks of sodas. At the end, the waitress gave us a complimentary dish pizza bread sprinkled in sugar. Well to be honest, I have tasted better pizza, and waaay better lasagna. The sauce used I thought was too bland, and it needs to be more thick. The pizza’s pepperoni and sausage was good since there’s flavor in the meat. The cheese was a bit too clunky, it should have been better spreaded during its prep. And the olives and mushrooms were plentiful, which is fine. The crust was okay… A bit tough though. The lasagna definitely needs to improve. It wasn’t sizzling hot like it should be, and it needs a lot more cheese. A bit too bland for my taste buds, and again the sauce was horrible. Basically the pizza and lasagna tastes like a frozen dinner. At least I enjoyed the salad with the ranch dressing. The lettuce seemed fresh and crisp. The garlic bread was good. No complaints there! And the pizza bread sprinkled in sugar was good too. It was still warm when served, but I was too full to eat anymore. Basically I was all breaded out and carbed out from this meal. I think I will need to do some cardiovascular exercises tomorrow. I believe this restaurant has been around for awhile just by looking at the building and it’s décor. It’s a nice place for a local to hang out. It seems relaxing but a bit dated. Basically you walk in, there’s a huge menu to the left side, and you order on the right. They have combination specials that you can order too. After you place the order, if you’re dining in… you’ll get a number and seat yourself. The waitresses will serve you. I can’t say the service is excellent, but it’s okay. They’re always around, and if you need anything… just flag then down. Yeah, everybody is pretty cool. If they improve the quality of the food, think the ratings will be much higher. They seemed very established in Downey. But there is always room to grow and things to improve. I will give you guys a strong two stars. I like the establishment and had a good experience eating there too. But please improve on the food quality. Let’s start off by using a thicker sauce. Good luck!
