Sooooo… how ’bout that drought, eh? My husband woke me up a few days ago to tell me there was smoke coming from under the house. No flames. It turned out to be our 10ish year old water pump, which had burnt itself up. OK, no problem, we went out and got another one and installed it. Only… we couldn’t get it to prime, and then when we did, we couldn’t get it to KEEP the prime. Turns out our well had run mostly dry — enough water to temporarily prime the pump a few times, but not enough to keep it primed, which is what caused the old pump to burn up. So… enter John’s Well Drilling. I grew up out in Kenton, and rode past their place for two decades, so they were the first ones to come to mind. I looked around a little, didn’t see any reviews, checked the BBB and was satisfied with what I found there, and decided to just go with them, rather than wasting any more time without running water at the house. So we called, got the quote, and hired them. They told us, on Monday, that we’d have water by the end of the week. Sometime Tuesday, someone(Miss Utility?) showed up and painted some pretty lines across the front yard. When I got home Wednesday morning, someone had shown up and painted more pretty lines up toward the house, and planted a few cute little flags. By the time I woke up on Wednesday afternoon, The well was dug, and they were trenching the line up to the house, which is what woke me up. Noisy damn machine, that’s for sure. The guy clanged around in the crawlspace for a while, came back out, and we had running water! He explained what we needed to do(open each line til we smelled chlorine, then close it back off again and leave it for 24 hours, no using the water for 24 hours, then open the hose up and let it run til we didn’t smell chlorine anymore and do the same for each line in the house), then went out and covered the trench back over. We wrote a check, and off he went. At some point, they planted one of their little signs out in the yard, and we left it. I wasn’t thrilled about dropping that much money on an unanticipated catastrophe, but I couldn’t be happier with our experience with the company. While he was trenching, one of the guys down the street stopped by to talk to him. His well went dry that morning.
